Compare him and Ndidi and it's night and day, now that's a PROPER DM.

He is just absolutely useless these days. The way he got beaten for the 2nd goal was a joke.

Had a good spell in second half of last season after we signed Bruno. Couldn't get a game in the first half of last season, even Pireira was getting in ahead of him. He's just been going through the motions this season. Deadwood now, needs to be moved on.

Legs are gone, so many players ran off him today it was almost criminal he made it past half time.

I starting sporting Utd in 1979, outside of maybe Kleberson or Fellani, in his current state, I can't think of a worse midfielder to play for us. Even Djemba- Djemba was better. He's been finished for at least 18 months and how our Manager can't see it is beyond belief.

True. Need to be replaced in the summer. Interesting to see who it will be with as we'll need to spend big. Figure... no one? Getting impatient with the people in charge of this club

Not exactly much trust after wasting our so called "war chest" on van de beek

What happened to him? Last season he was so good and now he's become a liability. Would get rid of him this season, but of course he's just got a new contract
He was only good for the month before and the month after lockdown last season.

His entire time here has been incredibly inconsistent, with the poor periods being longer than the good and getting worse every season.

17/18 - Started very well, then his form slowly but surely dropped over the rest of the season. It was actually amazing how consistent his slide was. He was 8/10 for the first month or two, then down to a 7/10, to a 6/10 around Christmas, and then dropped to 5/10 and eventually 4/10 by the end of the season. So overall he was good for about half a season.
18/19 - Was extremely poor up until Ole took over, then had a period of good form before struggling again towards the end of the season. Good for 2 or 3 months.
19/20 - Struggled when he did play at the start of the season, but when he came back from his injury he played well until lockdown. When lockdown ended he played well for a few weeks, then struggled more and more as we got closer to the end of the season. Good for about 2 months.
20/21 - Has he been good at all this season?

Fellaini was better. He was a limited midfielder but if we gave him a job to focus on (whether it was offensive or defensive) he normally did it well.

Yesterday’s match was probably the last one we saw from Matic in the United shirt, except time against Grenada in order to give him a descent exit with no hard feelings.

You'd hope so but given the number of games I wouldn't be surprised to see him a few more times yet.

Like the tin man now though, players running off him left right and centre. Honestly can't believe he was given a three year deal.

We’re supposed to believe Ole and everyone behind the scenes know what their doing but look at the contract Matic got.

Hes been off the pace all season.

90% of our losses this year, hes been a starter. Should be the first one out the door this summer
Really? That’s a mental but totally believable stat.

Shouldn't play anymore unless it's a meaningless cup game. Weird decision to give him a three year extension, probably a year too long.

It was like watching Gary Neville against WBA where you felt he should seriously consider thinking about retirement now.

it was actually kind of upsetting. His technique is still there, but his legs were gone. He was never the quickest, but it was clear to see he wasn't able for it yesterday.

He's finished, himself and Fred yesterday were an utter disaster with the only difference being that Matic doesn't have the legs help in the defensive side of the game.

When was his last start?

If Matic doesn't realise that he doesn't have the leg anymore and still won't ask to be sold so he can play in lower league then he's either delusional or just here to take the piss for pay check. So many times we have seen this, the guy is easily being overrun by any midfielder and when it happened, he never try to put effort to rush back but instead jog and ball watching.

Why should he? Seriously? Hardly anybody would do that. It's a club decision but we decided to give him something like three extra years

Matic can still put in a shift against the bottom feeders, but against a top club like Leicester City he no longer has the legs for the job.

Because he doesn’t benefit the club at this moment. If he plays, we suffered, if he doesn’t play, we wasted our money. Some players understand, care and prefer to move on.

‘He was still shocking against Sheffield United in both home and away.

This is the problem with having an old player who is past it like him and keeping them around just for their experience. in a best case scenario they are as useful as what Carrick was even a few years before retiring but most times their lack of playing time will only make their age more apparent. In any game where we can expect to get pressed Matic is a no-no.

Nobody will willingly go down a division when they still have three years left at a big club getting good money

That’s why I said he’s just here to take a piss for pay check.
Or he believes he can contribute like Rooney did and most older guys do.
The club fcked up as usual with a long term contract despite warnings before

Matic has no obligation to leave and it's not on him especially if he's picked in matches like a fa Cup quarter final. The club and manager need to have balls to deal with the situation, there's no way we can lay this on Matic and expect him to do anything differently to what he's doing now

That’s why in the original post that you replied I said he’s either delusional if he believes that or he’s just here to take a piss for pay check. Neville and Scholes knew when the time they finished, they stated their story about this.

Either way, he’s not good enough anymore for this intense level. Playing him means likely hurting us. We need to get rid of him or just never play him.

I agree with the bolded bit. It's on United as a club or the manager to figure this out
The problem is that Fred and Matic never works yet Ole still went with it in a cup quartet final away from home against a team who's been neck and neck with us whole season

Agree.

Matic was on his height in Chelsea, but has served us pretty well. The same can be said about Mata. Have no hard feelings against them, but professional clubs first of all have to priority quality and results and often have to make tough or hard decisions. In this case United’s approach often is to soft. Off course we should’ve offloaded Matic and Mata yesterday, but hopefully we do it after this season.

And again.. I don’t say it to disrespect Matic or Mata, but let’s face the fact.

Well, it worked last season and it worked this season vs RB Leipzig 5-0 and Southampton but the problem is Matic only had 2-4 good or decent game in all comp this season. The rest, he's been poor shite.
