Where the grass is greener.
I struggle to see a situation where De Gea isn't our number one going into next season, we've dug ourselves into an expensive hole. No chance we use resources that are available this summer on another keeper.

Hopefully Henderson gets a run and plays exceptionally well forcing Ole into making a decision.

I'm not too clued up in who we could bring in but IF we do sign a new keeper he must:
  1. Dominant in the air.
  2. Comfortable with the ball at his feet who can distribute well.
  3. Basically, not the shot stopper type goalie. Ederson, Allison, Meslier Martinez mould.

Can you tell me what you see in him please? Seen a lot of praise but I see pretty much constant mistakes, certainly enough to outweigh anything good. He’s young, yes, accept that but some of his errors ... jesus ... awful.
He's a good all-around keeper who's still a work in progress and contributes a lot in the way Leeds progresses the ball and play.

He has mistakes yes but I don't think they're that constant, the goal yesterday was just bad luck.

Said it before, will say it again, if Henderson is not the future, then Dommarumma. He has the pedigree, the quality and everything else.

Yes I think once he cuts out the daft mistakes he's going to be quality. I could probably see him join us in the future.

Emiliano Martinez. Easily premier league best goalkeeper by far this season. He remind me of Peter Schmeichel. A giant and a beast in goal. Energetic but still a composure goalkeeper.
He is more in the mould of Peter than Vanders. Vanders was a elegance and gentleman goalkeeper. But if someone that can reach PS level. Bring him on. Martinez is really on a high level now. I don’t think there are many better world goalkeeper than him in the world right now. He has been so consistent on high level over a whole season now.

A mistake by Arteta by letting him go. You just don’t let go who have just help you win FA cup, who has had help to achieved you success and winning trophies. It will come back to bite you.

I wrote on my another thread i just started.

If United want to win the league. United have to get a world class goalkeeper. If Klopp is rating Allison as world class goalkeeper. Then I believe Martinez is up there with Allison. And I don’t think Martinez will cost that much.
Im not sure Henderson is the right one. He looks stressful with ball sometimes. Special with high press and your Cbs keep playing the ball to you.

I have seen enough of Martinez. The way he came out and make the goal smaller. Remind me so much about Peter. Martinez a bit taller than Peter and a giant in goal as Peter.
My vote clearly go to Martinez.
About Donnarumma. I have recognized the name. But haven’t seen much of him.
But with Martinez. My confidence is really high. That is the goalkeeper who will help United winning the league. Beside rest of a complete XI.

I can see scenarios where it isn't De Gea.

However, I absolutely can't see any scenario where it isn't one of De Gea or Henderson. Talk of other goalkeepers is far-fetched when we've tied ourselves to both those players with big contracts. In a context where we have other positions to strengthen too, it just isn't going to happen.

Hmmm. Seen mistakes all season. The og at Palace one of the weirdest I’ve seen. Yesterday bad luck, Arsenal awful. As I say, get the ‘he’s young’ totally. Just the number of mistakes would worry me. Looks out of his depth.

According to Duncan Castles, Utd in talks with Riaola over Donnaruma. He wants £10mil net for his client. Utd thinking it over. Chelsea their only other PL rival for him. Though Donnaruma may stay at AC.

Utd still undecided over Henderson. Big month for him.

Duncan knows shit. We aren't ditching Hendo after giving a new contract. We always give our academy guys enough chances to prove themselves.

Not saying we aren't signing a GK but it's certainly not at the expense of Hendo.

unless Henderson absolutely shits the bed over the next while we would be mad to spend big money on a keeper. we have important holes to fix in other positions. If Hendo/DDG can be dependable we can ride through on that until we sort the rest out.

I am wondering if we're thinking of doing a nice big triple deal with Riaola again like we did back in 16/17. Haaland, Donnarumma and a resolution to Pogba (either selling him or signing a new contract).

I somehow don’t think Riaola would milk only £10mm for Donnaruma. I expect whoever signs him is comitting at least to a 130-150m outlay between sign- on fee, agent fee and wages for 5 years.

£10mil was wages alone. Not anything additional which no doubt would be expensive knowing riaola.

You do realise Henderson isnt going to stay next season if he isnt guaranteed no1 spot? He's already pissed about this season ( not getting the chances he was promised,). The man is in a hurry. If utd cant sell de gea or sign another keeper as no1 then hendersen will be off (plenty of interest in him). I personally want him to get the no1 jersey, but we will have to wait and see.

Ole promised that Henderson would be treated equally with De Gea and Ole would pick the goalie who was in form / training the best etc. However he has by in large stuck with De Gea despite his patchy form. Henderson is said to be very impatient. He believes he's the best keeper in the PL and should be starting as England no1 at Euros. Not here to sit on the bench.

Thats why this month with De Gea away for 5/6 games is so important to Henderson. Impress and you might become no1, dont and utd will cash in on you in the summer.

I think you might have read between the lines on Ole’s comments. I haven’t seen, nor can I find any comments where Ole has promised Henderson anything.

I agree that Henderson should be our first choice keeper until the end of the season. If he isn’t, we can wave him goodbye and he’ll carry any title chances for 21/22 with him.

I like the look of Donnaruma, not having to pay a fee makes it even better.

We've been linked with Pope and Sanchez today. Sanchez is mediocre, I think Potter is mad for ditching Ryan for him.

Neither of them are better than Henderson who is contracted to us for another 4 years, even a declining De Gea is better than both of them so I don’t see us spending the money it’d cost signing a keeper from another Premier League club when the keepers aren’t as good as what we have.

I don’t see us signing a keeper in the summer unless it’s as back up due to one of Henderson or De Gea leaving, Romero is pretty much certain to leave which is a massive shame as up until this season was arguably the best second choice keeper around and he’d be perfect back up to Henderson in my opinion if we can move De Gea on.

Kristoffer Klaesson would be a cheap alternative and one to compete for the backup spot if DDG leaves this summer.

I am sure we will get rinsed with signing on fees, wages and agents fees.

Henderson has done well and I would be comfortable with him as our first choice keeper, but I feel that his (justifiable) impatience might force Ole's hand and result in him being sold. Ole clearly rates DDG and as others have said finding a buyer is going to be a huge problem. Henderson on the other hand is likely to have at least Spurs sniffing around.

DDG is relatively young by goalkeeping standards; at 30 Van Der Sar was just joining Fulham and Schmeichel was still 6 years away from leaving United. Both were in their late 30s when they won the CL in two of our all time great teams. It'll be an interesting summer.

We should just look for a backup keeper, give the gig to Henderson for next season and see where that takes us.
I still think there is a great keeper there.

Gregor kobl of Stuttgart looks a good young keeper, getting linked to Leipzig recently. 23 yearold, 6ft 4'. Impressed every time i see him play.

No idea. Apparently Mike Maignan lille is a very highly rated keeper. Never seen him play. No idea how good donnaruma is now either.
In 29 Ligue 1 games Maignan kept 16 clean sheets and conceded only 17 goals. His current contract ends in June '22. So Lille either need to extend it or sell this summer. In the Europa he "only" has 1 clean sheet in 8 matches.

If we sign Donnarumma, it will be another trouble from Riaola, also, I think we will also sign his brother as a package with high paid.

If we can sign someone like Donnarumma on a free then great. If not, GK isnt a position we should be prioritising spending a load of money on.

That said, if we are dead set on a new keeper next year (I think Henderson will do for now) then Donnarumma would be a good shout, or Emi Martinez or maybe Meslier.

Good enough to be no1 for Utd though?

Im gonna have to keep anneye on Martinez next time villa are on tv or something. Not someone i ever considered as a potential Utd player (probably my own bias or not knowing enough about him).

Oblak is the best on that list but pretty much unobtainable.

Atletico's Oblak is the closest thing to a prime De Gea that's obtainable. If we want more of a sweeper keeper, Ajax's Onana is superb.

This thread should have a lot more buzz. The young English academy lad overtaking the past it legend is a bit of a fairy tale. I'm not entirely convinced, but I do think we can delay the GK issue and give the better of the two (Hendo or De Gea) another year.

Far too many other issues in the side to deal with before we look at this.
