Play a lot of games because Liverpool are signing their version of Bailly?
Seems fair, would be interesting if his fitness improves considerably. With Fabinho, Kabak, Matip, Gomes, Van Dijk, Ben Davies, Konate they will have a few options. If Dortmund could price him away if he is no longer first choice, they'd be doing great business. Exactly what they need and they'd sell him for a huge fee if he performs.

He has started 4 games this season and he started 6 games last season. 10 matches in 2 seasons

£35 million is a great deal for RB Leizpig

Joe Gomez is their Bailly...130 odd games missed since signing for Liverpool.
Joel Matip has a poor injury record too - he broke down every second or third game this year before he was ruled out for the season. 25 appearances in all competitions over the last two seasons (he was second choice to Gomez for some of that time but even still)

Teams won't be winning many headers against him and Van Dijk.

Wow, that confirms how clueless I'm about other leagues.
For some reason I thought he was a regular at Leipzig, probably because he's been quite hyped up by the media.

Seems like a risky move at this point, for that price.

Always thought he was an even better talent than Upamecano, a bit sick that the Scousers will get him to pair with VVD :houllier:

Once he gets diagnosed and medicated for asthma he’ll be playing 60 games per season ;)

Just great. One of the biggest CB talents who many rate as even better than Upamecano going to Liverpool. I know he's faced some injury problems of late but seems Livepool are getting potentially a top class CB in addition to VVD. feck off

Why are we always late in closing deals like this? A potential world class CB was available for a fair price yet we were caught bird watching.

Do we really want to tango with another injury-prone defender? Haven't we danced that dance enough times already?

Smart business by liverpool if they get this done before the Euros. If selected by france and he has a good tournament his price could go up alot.

I think what is annoying is that we never seem to get deals done early like this; instead we seem to scramble at the end of the summer.

Don't really see how he's injury prone. He's had one major injury and then some other small ones. Doubt people would be saying "oh but he's injury prone" if someone was buying De Bruyne this summer.

Reminds me of the caf moaning when they signed the Japanese lad and we didn’t. Why not just wait and see if he will be a good buy for them? His injury record isn’t exactly make for pleasant reading. We must be in someone else and hopefully better if we are not moving in for him ourselves

Makes sense considering we have three defenders coming back from season ending injuries with no clue as to if they’ll be the same. At the very least they can’t play 2 games a week. His injury record is a massive concern, but I’ve always thought he’s far better than Upamecano.

Robben had alot of injuries at Chelsea. Moved to Bayern and was fine. Sometimes a different medical team can diagnose a underlying condition at the old club missed. Happen to Evra when he joined Juventus, we missed an underlying stomach condition for 2 years!

Often times, you'd be right, but in Konate's case, I think it's sensible to let someone else take that risk, he's been really injury-prone.

9 games missed since the start of the season is what I'm reading, so not actually that bad?

I mean it's not great by any means of course, but it certainly doesn't put me off of wanting us to sign him.
Yes i hope you get him while United go for someone else like Kounde or Pau Torres

Konate played 26 games, total, over this season and last season.

De Bruyne played 79. Not exactly comparable.

He has been on the bench for a lot of games as well.

He has only played 415 mins in the league this season and 890 mins in all competitions.

Basically he has only player 14.5 games all season.

Where the grass is greener.
He's a quality player, massive potential, but he's clearly got injury issues. I'd be nervous about us signing him. If he can sort that out, amazing prospect.

If at least 1 of Van Dijk or Gomez comes back without any major problems, then you have enough quality between both them, Matip & perhaps Kabak that even if he does have some injury worries you can cover them.

The problem will be with how robust he is going forward if he is to emerge as a mainstay & leader of the defence. We'll only know that through time.

I don't think there's any chance he'd feature for France in the Euros, if he got selected. And that's a big if.

Liverpool getting Konate
CIty possibly getting Haaland or Messi
Chelsea getting Sancho or Lukaku

The signs are looking ominous for us next season.

This is looking more and more like the summer of 2018 when we finished 2nd in the league and that summer, was the World Cup and we bought Fred, Dalot, and Grant and were expected to go for the title challenge. We are approaching the Euros and we are in 2nd spot and could rightly finish there too.

The question is whether this year is gonna end, with us sacking yet another manager?

Can't believe people are making out Liverpool buying a crock is devastating news for us.

Be funny if VVD is susceptible to further injuries now too.

Glad we didn't go for him. Even if he is a talent when he is actually available.

wouldn’t say it’s funny but I agree it’s likely they’re both going to be susceptible to further injuries and Matip is injury prone as well unless this latest layoff magically rectifies the issues.

I think there's a reasonable chance that we'll finish behind City, Liverpool and Chelsea next season, but that wouldn't see Solskjaer fired (unless we were also outside the top 4).

The club will be looking to keep our noses in front of Leicester, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton etc and will spend the minimum required to achieve that.

To borrow the argument constantly used for Dan James, it’s a relatively cheap punt on a big talent and if it flops they’ll probably get their money back, or knowing Liverpool sell at a profit

This same thing was said when Chelsea signed Werner, Ziyech and Harvertz and Spurs signed Bale and Liverpool signed Thiago but yet here we are comfortably ahead of all these teams. Let's not over react and write off our chances for next season already based on assumed signings.
