Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

I haven't heard any reliable news say United isn't interested in winger anymore so they move to striker. All I read is United two priority targets are CB and attacker. Attacker could be winger or striker. I still believe Sancho is one of the top priority and in the attacker category list because we have been targeting him since 2019 and we have yet sign a regular winger. Diallo's signing is just for young prospect, he's not ready to be regular and it doesn't make sense to say that we are no longer need Sancho after signing Diallo, the purpose of targeting/signing them were different. One is targeted to be regular starter while the other one is targeted to take his time to develop.

Dortmund will need to sell Sancho this year, they must or they will be in difficult situation next year since his contract is expired in 2022. Sancho is more priority for them to sell this year than Haaland imo.

His ability to play LW, AM, and RW makes this such a no-brainer. Being able to rest and rotate Rashford will do wonders for him.

Looking forward to Dortmund's PR department, sorry, the media, coming up with a new, covid special price of only 100m this summer.

Have a bad feeling they'll sell Haaland for big money and claim to 'build around Sancho'.

The worry would be if they don't make CL, I think Haaland is a good possibility to leave. And I doubt they will be OK losing their best two players in same summer. Having said that, if Sancho stays he will only have 1 year left on his contract by summer 2022, and his value will be down a lot.

So many possible ways this can go. Going to be a summer full of rumors. Can't imagine how giddy "journalists" are.

This team lacks serious quality in the final third. The thing about Sancho is that he is levels above anyone in our squad when it comes to making decisions in the final third. Would be a shame if we pass up on the opportunity.

Sancho's contract is expiring in 2022, he most certainly won't sign a new deal as he now knows he can get a top contract offer from any of the top teams in Europe with guaranteed CL football and a big payrise.

Dortmund are unlikely to make CL next year and it might well lead to an exodus of the current stars (Haaland, Sancho) but they will no doubt be able to rebuild with new talent for the money they'll get from the sales.

Yep, and he’s dangerous in multiple positions which would suit us perfectly. Daddy still wants wants wants, I can’t just move on.

Sancho had extended his contract to 2023.

I think with Mokouku coming up and not finishing in the CL spots, Haaland will be the first to go. Remember, he has a 75m release clause next summer. The big question is for how much? If the highest offer is, say, 100m due to the pandemic, then Haaland will stay. 125m and up and he goes.

For Sancho, 100m offer and he’s gone, no question, even if Haaland leaves as well. They have to sell if they do not make the CL, and maybe even if they do, so if the offers for Haaland are lower than expected and he stays, it’s close to 100% that Sancho will leave.

i have been a longtime proponent of bringing in Sancho. I watch a lot of Dortmund and he’s the best winger in the Bundesliga — yes, better than Gnabry. However, if United have the chance to buy Haaland, you have to do it, over Sancho for sure. That Haaland kid scored his first goal 5 min out of the womb. He’s a better finisher than Mbappe IMHO and just learning to use his superior strength.

So, the plan would be:

Sell Lingard -- 18m
Sell Martial -- 35m
Sell Pogba (will leave on a free if you don't) -- 55m
Sell Andreas -- 8m
Sell Phil Jones -- 5m (pipe dream, I know)
Sell Bailly -- 25m

Total: 146m

Buy Haaland -- 150m
Buy Saul -- 50m (wants to leave, and I really rate him)
Buy Konate / Kounde -- 35m

Total: 235m

Total Outlay: 89m

Bring back Dalot as cover at RB (I think he has looked good at Milan and offers more attacking threat)
Keep Mason at RW with Diallo and James as squad options; Mason to play 9 when Haaland needs a rest. Shoretire and Mejbri to get promoted to senior squad.
Saul can play the 8 or 6 or 10 and offers much better passing than McFred.

I have zero confidence that Ed / Judge et al will be able to pull it off. It also looks as if Haaland is destined to play for Real Madrid, and if they go all in on him and forget about Mbappe, he will go to Madrid.

we’ll be lucky to get £10m for lingard, no one will buy martial and i dont think we will sell him. I think we would rather keep Pogba than sell him and everyone will lowball us with offers for him, no chance of even getting anywhere near 55m. Phil Jones would only go on a free. Bailly isnt worth £25m but may leave to be crocked somewhere else.

i do think we can sell a few like dalot, chong, pereira, lingard but theres not going to be much in the pot from them.

cant see us or anyone else financing a deal for Haaland, everyone will wait a year for his release clause to kick in.

saul who knows, but cant see him being that cheap.

and koundes release clause is £68m so i’m not sure why they would sell him for half of that.

It is a lot of first team players to sell in one summer.

unfortunately we wouldn’t get anything for Jones, and we would be lucky to get £10m for Bailly, frankly we might be lucky to get any fee for him given his injury record, wages and Covid.

we have as good a chance as anyone to get Haaland, but given there are half a dozen clubs who want him, it’s unlikely he’s coming to United.

I think it’s far more likely we get Sancho as the big signing this summer.

‘Easy to nitpick. Agree that some of the selling valuations are a bit optimistic, but you are mental if you think no one will buy Martial. If anything, I might be a bit low on Martial. Just a year ago, he had 23 goals, he’s young, can play on the wing as well. You really think that Klopp or Poch, Tuchel or Pep couldn’t get the best out of him?

Lingard will move to West Ham for 15m or more. He fits that system perfectly.

Pogba will leave this summer, and I do think it will be for 50m or above. Even if it’s 45 or 40, it’s more than we’ll get next summer.

I forgot about Kounde’s release clause, but I also remember that Sevilla are willing to take much less.

I’m incredibly pessimistic that we’ll even be able to execute 2 transfers, much less what I’ve proposed above.

I agree it’s more likely we’ll get Sancho.

Partially disagree regarding Bailly. It may be 20m or 15m, but he will definitely generate a fee. He has too many tools and is too athletic. Yes, he is injury prone, but he really fits a less intense league like Italy or Spain.

I’m convinced United will get Sancho as the marquee summer signing. I believe Sancho himself will push hard for this move as well after keeping quiet last summer

My bad, 2023. It's still quite frail as Haaland have his clause next summer to potentially lose both of them for cut-price deals. I can't see either of them signing new deals with Dortmund.
No doubt. So it would make sense for them to sell Sancho this summer and then Haaland for his release clause summer 2023. Problem comes if they are out of CL, and Haaland wants to leave this summer. They might figure sell Haaland at a high price which compensates for selling Sancho cheaper in summer 2023.

Worst case for us would be City/Real get Haaland this summer for a high price say > 100m pounds, and then they sell Sancho cheapish summer 2023 where more teams can be in for him at around 40m pounds (with 1 yr on contract left)

I hope you are right ref Bailly. I deffo think it’s time to go, he’s run out of chances here, and best for everyone if he’s playing elsewhere next year.

I think we have a free run at Sancho, who had agreed terms last year, so far more likely.

we do have a real issue at CF though. With Cavani constantly injured, and Martial’s not only poor form, but inability to be the no 9 we want/ need - then we have to buy a striker. Goodness knows who.

west ham are struggling financially and will lowball us in a pandemic for a player they know is surplus to requirements. Its like when I spent all last summer trying to tell other fans that chris smalling wasnt going to be sold for 35 million but no one was having it.

the issue with Martial is his wages and the club he is at. No one who has the money will want or need him. I cant see your point about other coaches ‘getting the best out of him’. None of those clubs will sign him, if we sell him the market will be your lyons, napolis, milans and the like. And as ever, if we are selling him in the prime of his career its only because hes surplus to requirements and any bidder knows that. Even if we agree a fee, he can just turn the move down if he doesnt want to go or if they cant match his wages. Then if we sell him we need to replace him. Who can we realistically get to replace him as a backup striker/winger for the money we would get for him? Selling him at the moment would be atrocious squad management.

sevilla wont magically allow manchester united to pay half what their star defender is worth.

no one will pay that in a covid for a want away pogba in the last year of his contract with his questionable fitness and the fact they can have him free next summer.

i think everyone knows that we need a cb, cdm, rw and striker but its what we can do in a summer with the money we have. Better to get two really good players for that list than to try and sell half the squad for peanuts or waste money on punts.

what youve proposed above is basically a video game transfer window. Its a bit strange/boring when fans pop up with these far fetched ins and out lists where they overvalue our deadwood, undervalue targets, forget about signing on fees, agents fees etc and explain how we can do xyz for a peanuts net spend and make out the club hierarchy are morons who cant see anything. If so why arent you CEO?

It's not unplausible both will leave, I don't think Sancho is particularly happy with how last summer panned out.
Even though he will bide his time to wait for a move, Dortmund probably knows his time is up and there are, just like in previous times when Dortmund has sold promising young talent, other prospects coming through the ranks.

On Lingard yeah West Ham won't pay a ridiculous fee like £30m but talk here that we'll be lucky to get £10m is ridiculous he's in very good form, now an England International, has trophies to his CV and in his prime years £15m is a more than doable fee for West Ham

like i say, regardless of form etc, totally surplus to requirements. England international only in a sense that he was given a go in some dead rubber qualifiers and wont be chosen for the finals. They wont pay much for him given the fact we dont want him. I predict 10 million max. His market value was actually slightly less than that before he went to west ham based on transfermarkt figures which are usually quite reliable. West Ham actually paid a 1.53m loan fee which i bet your bottom dollar comes off the transfer fee if they sign him permanently.

I dont see Utd accepting a fee that low if 10m is as high as they go Utd will keep him and risk letting him go for free if thats the case or like Smalling/Roma West Ham pay the fee on deadline day. I dont think West Ham will let a mere 5m be a reason to lose a player who`s not only improved their form/season but a big figure in the dressing room and a fan favorite whom if not signed will cause a lot of anger among fans. If the difference was say 10-15m thats another story
Lingard was a regular in the WORLD CUP under the same Southgate BTW if he keeps up his form he`ll definitely be in the National Team even as a squad option.

Also here's a piece from a very reliable source for West Ham news as per their fans. If indeed Lingard generates a bidding war there's zero chance be goes for just £10m someone will be willing to pay more if West Ham play games

We’ll see. We had many less options for the national team at that point, now we have grealish alli maddison mount. And we have sancho sterling hudson odoi greenwood rashford as wing options, he isnt getting in the squad.

Phil Jones had a place in the squad in 2018.Phil Jones of all people. Lingard on current form will 100% have a spot even if its for dressing room vibes

That's Fifa mentality, no way we can spend that much nor have so many in/outs in a single summer, also you do know Sevilla rejected 65M for Kounde last summer right? Why would they agree to 35M now?

Dont get me wrong bringing Haaland, Kounde and Saul would be a dream but it's just not going to happen.

Dortmund will need to sell Sancho this year, they must or they will be in difficult situation next year since his contract is expired in 2022. Sancho is more priority for them to sell this year than Haaland imo.
Would love to think we could get Kounde/Varane and him in this window but think getting two marquee buys looks a real long shot in this COVID affected market. I could get more behind a CB being a top priority in this window IF it meant we only saw one of Fred/McTominay next season alongside Pogba or his replacement if it happens. However I am still leaning more towards a RW than a ST because think the lack of service concern is a very valid one

All the talk is about forgetting about Sancho and bringing in Haaland. Whilst it would be great to have someone like Haaland, we've all been saying how much we struggle to break teams down.

If we were to get Haaland, yes, he'd most likely score a shed load of goals for us, but when it comes to teams that defend deep, we'd most likely have the same problem.

Neville alluded to this last month and said:

“You know how Man United are, they struggle to break down teams. They’ve got to be better against teams in those deep blocks with ten men behind the ball. That’s where the next stage is.

“It’s about being more higher quality in the final third. There are more organised and compact teams around now, especially teams in the bottom half.

“You need fantastic players: you look at Man City – (Kevin) De Bruyne, (Ilkay) Gundogan, (Riyad) Mahrez, (Phil) Foden… they have five or six of them.”

With 9 assists and 2.8 key passes per game (7th in Europe), Sancho is the player that will help us reach that stage. When we compare that to our current right midfielder in Greenwood, he has 1 assist this season, with 0.4 key passes per game.

Now, i'm a big fan of Greenwood, but he's obviously a striker playing as a wide midfielder. With the potential signing of Sancho, it will allow us to play him in his favoured striker role.

I'd rather we go for Sancho and a CB/DMF then pursuing Haaland. As many say here we need to improve how we service our front players.

My worry is if Dortmund fail to make the Champions League next season, paired with what COVID has done to their finances, they'll dig in harder to command a fee similar to last year. Which we aren't paying... Then again they may be super desperate to sell and we can finally land him

like i say, regardless of form etc, totally surplus to requirements.
We rejected a £15m buyout clause in the loan contract, we'll end up getting about £18m + £3m in add ons more than likely.

I don't think Dortmund would offer too much hassle over failing to qualify, they'll lose traction in negotiations if the star players are making noises to leave.

I totally agree however about targeting Sancho. The club should use the distraction and fuss of Haaland to do intelligent business elsewhere. Sancho, and a defender as priorities, defensive midfielder secondary. Lingard, Bailey and Dalot shown the door.

We will easily get £20 mill for Lingard after his performances for West Ham. No way West Ham will risk missing out on him. If we say £20 million they will pay it.

The difference this time is that they’ll be forced to sell and Sancho has not produce the numbers he made the last two seasons.

They can still keep him, specially if they sell Haaland but they’re in a much weaker position than last summer.
