Is Jadon Sancho really worth the 100 plus million fee?

that’s not how buyout clauses work.
what, they sign an agreement to be able to have an option to purchase him for 15m plus a potential 3m in add ons when they loan him then they get to instead pay magically 30 quid for him? How do they work then einstein?

Huh?

United would obviously turn down a 15m option. It is not “nailed on” unless you don’t even understand what that means.

Because it's an option not an obligation it doesn't serve any purpose for us only benefits WestHam .
it sets his price. Now they can come and offer 8m. I predict they lowball us and wait til the end of the transfer window

Actually it doesn't West ham would still have the option of not to buy him or negotiate the price down only maximum fee for Us would be fixed so it's basically useless for us.
Had it been an obligation to buy we would have gladly taken it.

yes but we would have had that agreement on his valuation. They want him and he is surplus here. With no formal agreement on valuation they could turnaround and say they value him at £8m. If they signed saying they would buy at £15m they would have formally accepted that valuation and not be able to lowball or negotiate down.

That assumes that there’s absolutely no competition for his signing, which after the form he’s showed for West Ham seems unlikely.

If relegated Bournemouth could command a 20m £ fee for 28 y.o Callum Wilson who’d scored only 8 goals and 3 assists in an entire season, we should be able to demand a respectable fee for Lingard who’s almost matched those numbers in just 7 appearances.

Dortmund need to drop asking price to €80 + 10m of add ons which is around what Chelsea paid for Havertz.

we’ve struggled to shift him for a couple of windows. He may not get another goal or assist then whats he worth? 15 is a very good fee for him: You’re not another one of these fans that thinks we fan shift rojo and darmian for 50 million quid are you?

I don't think you actually understand the concept of Option and obligation .15 m option does nothing for us it only limits WestHam maximum trasfer outlay for Lingard while leaving them the option of lowballing us which you keep on harping about nothing has changed for us .

The form he’s shown lately proves he’s still a very good player for a lower premier league and there’s a precedent for players of his profile moving for higher fees than the 8-15 m you’ve discussed earlier.
Rojo was permanently crocked and Darmian never showed anything to suggest he’d be worth investing in so they seem irrelevant to the discussion.

Every season has its own story. Rooney was started to show signs of decline and tbh he was never a natural goalscorer (think of the likes of Ronaldo or RVN). We needed someone who could carry the burden and score the goals if needed. Ultimately RVP was brought in to paper the cracks. He was successful on that but that was it. We were, in fact, papering the cracks
Rooney was 'too versatile' and an unselfish player. He the one that always adapted to the talent around him at the sacrifice of even better career offensive stats.

I understand quite well thanks. again it does. There was no agreement on valuation. They can turn round if they want and offer £8m. The option to buy forces them to acknowledge they think his value is £15m, should they wish to buy him. Now they are free to make up a valuation this summer. If the option was there, they would look stupid to lowball us and have no negotiation position. And 15m, thats going to be about the maximum, do you think he will suddenly be worth 50 million quid or something??

Yeah. Hes going to be worth about 15m quid. His age and profile as being surplus to requirement limits him. He does well in a lower league team set up in a certain way. If thats the case then every two bit player in the bottom half with a few goals and assists is suddenly worth a load of money then. But they arent

I'm pretty sure the club haven't drop their interest in Sancho. If nothing else, this season has proven why Ole wanted Sancho.

If we denied the 15m option then we clearly value him higher than that, and the way he’s played for West Ham we’ll feel even more confident in our valuation.
There are plenty of lower teams in the league who could do with his services and that’s what will ultimately decide his worth.

And if history has told us anything it’s that you are wrong on the bolded bit..

lower league teams who didnt want him in the last two windows. Last summer was based on 3 months of covid finances, this one will be 15 months. No lower league team spending that on him. The underlying fact to it all is when you have surplus shit that everyone knows you dont want, you dont get premium prices for it

It’s hard to entice clubs into buying you when you’re not playing, he is now though and doing incredibly well.

Crowds are almost sure to be returning next season and West Ham spent 20 million just a couple of months ago for Benrahma who’s just 4 assists to his name this season (2 at the time they made the deal permanent).

The fact that we don’t want him is not important as long as someone else does and i’m sure he’ll caught some eyes lately.
Here’s a few players no better than Lingard who’ve gone to lower level premier league clubs for more than 15m this year.

Everton paid 20 for Doucouré
Leeds paid 16 for Costa
Sheffield Utd paid 23 for Brewster and 18 for Ramsdale
Newcastle paid 20 for Wilson

Unfortunately the best main strikers tend to be selfish. That's a natural trait in their game. Don't take me wrong, I am not criticising Rooney here. Honestly I tend to have a bigger soft spot towards traditional no 10 then main strikers (Baggio is my favourite no 10). However that's the way it is.

different markets. Thats was 3 months into covid, not 15. They dont have cash in the bank atm. Plus, You've got a top player a relegated team were forced to sell, two young potential signings and a proven striker forced to sell by relegation.

The only comparible on that list is costa.

we arent being forced to sell. We are trying to sell a bit of surplus tat, a 28 year old underachieving cam who until recently had worse goal and assists stats than most of the leagues centre halves. Its getting boring to keep repeating the same points, cant really be bothered anymore. You know what, fine, i’m wrong, hes amazing, he’ll go into a bidding war and sell for 40 or 50 million to one of a queue of financially stricken lower table clubs in a post covid market.

Lingard just played himself back into the England set up and will likely make the Euros squad. He will be worth more than £15m or will at least be a squad option for us. Love him or hate him, a confident Lingard is an asset. Hes in his prime, has a bucket load of experience and is generally well liked.

Lingard could legit push Sancho out of England's starting XI/surpass him in squad pecking order.

Not that he should, but Southgate loves Jesse and clearly hasn't got the foggiest idea how to introduce Sancho effectively.

Even 80m is a bit mad for him. They'll miss out on the CL and he'll have one more year left on his contract if we wait until summer 2022.

I think the high prices is too much of a risk, he's a very good player but he's not a great player to command that fee. Pogba and Lukaku were far more established and that was pre-corona.

People forget that United were a more successful team when Jesse was a key player.

Jesse is a great player. However, we have learnt to play without him, and without us. We need someone like Rice more than we do Jesse. So if some sort solution could be found between the 2 clubs, Jesse would stay at West Ham & Rice comes to us.

Sancho would be the priority again this summer. So obvious to see that we miss a player like him on our non existent right side of midfield.

I agree that Sancho should be United’s priority. I think Haaland would be a trap due to the figures involved and the circus around him.

Yeah this season Erling wouldn't be viable. There's a good player there but not for our team the way it is at the moment. We need more fluidity in our play.

Håland would be decent at City or Real.

With how much Havertz and Werner are struggling at Chelsea coupled with the fact that Sancho's CL and England performances have been nowhere near his Bundesliga's form then no.

He is worth 70m at most

Dortmund have struggled mightily without him in the lineup, only 1 win, 2 draws and 3 losses out of their last 6 with him out

Taking the hardline with Haaland that they took with Sancho last year, seemingly more open to selling the latter now though apparently

£70m should do it. The noises from the club say they have around that much to spend on one marquee player, and my guess it would be Sancho. I would have said Grealish but no way you're getting Grealish for any less than £90m.

Also doesn’t seem like anyone else will be willing to pay the money it takes to buy Grealish. We should be able to revisit next summer and have as much, if not more, chance of landing him when we can make him our undisputed no.1 target.

The focus this summer should be Sancho who’s going to be available at a reduced rate (possibly more if Dortmund miss out on the Champions League) and is the exact type of RW we’ve been crying out for.
