Atletico were quite poor against Sevilla, particularly defensively. The players don't look committed to playing so defensively, and their collapse this season is sort of reminding me of how Mourinho's teams tend to burn out over time. They even had a decent change to equalise, but Correa lacked the composure to settle on the ball and score past Bono, instead going for a first-time outside-of-the-foot shot.

Atletico are now 3 points ahead of Barcelona Real Madrid. After having such a large lead at the start, I'm surprised at how they've collapsed this season.

They’re 4 points ahead but if we win tomorrow it’ll just be one point ahead with another game between the two teams

Well the Cavani stuff from a few months back. Perhaps Cala sort of was saying call down dude but mentioned Negrito and obviously that's a dodgy thing to use in any language.

I assume like the Suarez-Evra incident it will be properly investigated and we'll get the transcript of what was said from both players and have to judge the context of it.

If he's going full Luis Aragones then he needs to be banned for rest of the season, no question.

Isnt this a South American thing rather than Spanish?

At the end of the day these investigations, players are not mic’d up its his word against another and if hes in the wrong he will obviously lie. Saying that the player who was the allegded victim wasnt the only one to react, another player ran directly to the ref (who apparently didnt even record the incident)

In that context, without friendship or affinity (like Cavani ) saying negro will always have a negative connotation.
Besides supposedly he said "Negro de mierda "

Cala has denied it but has made no further statements to the press.

What has happened to Atletico? It looked like the league was a formality a few months ago but defeat tonight and you would have to say I can't see them finishing ahead of Barcelona or Real Madrid now

Any La Liga watchers explain what has happened? Haven't followed as much since start of the year

they got hit hard with covid losing a ton of players and their rhythm has been off ever since. Many of those players have come back but their form hasn’t been the same.

On top of that, Saúl has become less committed to playing for Atletico in recent weeks. Despite that, he still starts, but he's slowly getting disconnected from the dressing room, and he's been expressing his desire to leave the team.

He's awful. I hope we go nowhere near him at all. Would be just like us to splurge on him and fund Haaland for Barca.
We obviously wouldn't have to splurge because he obviously is worth much. Nothing awful about him, just doesn't fit the team. If he was here he'd probably be our best player.

Dembele and Griezmann both miss very good chances in a matter of seconds.

Ref is doing his best to keep Barca in la liga. So predictable.

Isn't El Clasico soon (given it was played about 5 games into this season). Atletico Madrid simply must win that weekend as other two could both drop points.

They've made a right old mess of things post xmas.

Next weekend yeah (right in between the Liverpool games for Real who are without Ramos). Make or brake time for both Barca and them now.

How are you feeling about the Madrid matchup in CL?

Can’t say I’ve seen much of them, but Ramos out is still a good thing for us I guess. On our day we shouldn’t be afraid of anyone in Europe, so if we actually turn up I’m confident we can beat them over two legs. Guess it’s 50/50? Excited to play them though (and get revenge for the lost 2018 final).

Just checked and Atleti got Betis away next weekend....could easily drop points as Betis have really picked up after their slow start to the season and are currently 5th.

It’s also going to be without Suarez and Llorente due to YC suspensions. But anything can happen .

Honesty, Atleti are done and it's looked that way for weeks. Liga will come down to Madrid and Barca. The latter do have a harder run in so absolutely have to ensure they don't lose Classico.

I think you meant to say this :D.
for which part? The one where griezman took an elbow in the penalty box and nothing was called? Alba wasn’t a handball based on the current rules. The red was harsh for sure but we were denied a penalty on the other end as well

Varane is out for both Liverpool and El Clasico.

Everything is lining up perfectly for Barcelona, big favorites now i'd say.

Well, we played valladolid’s B team and struggled quite a bit so anything is possible
