No, no and no.
James is quick and hard working, young.
VDB is still adapting, has the movement and potential.
Diallo has talent to become world class, very young.

Lingard is done at United. He won’t come back to set the world on fire. He’ll come back and sit on the bench. Then he’ll play one odd game and be god awful.
All of you are going to start blaming Ole for not selling him whilst declaring him finished.

The only reasonable decision is to take advantage of his purple patch and use him to boost a deal or grab money.

I get why some fans have a soft spot for Lingard, as he is a “homegrown player”, but he never was and never will be good enough for what we aspire to be. Also people forget quickly how he was more interested in promoting his clothes than anything else, after some shameful results and tragic performances.
This is exactly what would happen if he returned.

Cue the posts about Woodward being a massive idiot and pissing money up the wall on ludicrous contracts.

Yep.

Same people saying we should bring Lingard back will be declaring Ole is an idiot when Lingard is brought back plays like shite and we don't get half as much money for him.

He should be allowed to enjoy his football elsewhere. He'll have a good career at a mid table club, he'll never start for us. Happy that it's working out so well for him.

Well it's baffling if we want to think Carrick, Ole or Phelan doesn't have any clue how to train like league champions. They've done it, albeit in different era.

"Hey Phelan, setup like how Fergie did, I want us to be the best in every department in the league, just like we were". "Sorry Ole, I know nothing according to Caf".
It what part of life does being one of the best in one role mean you can translate that to another role? Just because you were a great player (in the case of Carrick) doesn't mean you will be a great coach.

In the case of Phelan, yes he was with Fergie for a long time, but we have seen many of the other coaches under Fergie fail when taken away from him.

Like I said originally, I very well may be way off the mark.

£30-35m seems about right. England international in the prime of his career, scoring for fun at the moment and probably the first name on the West Ham team sheet.
No way should he come back to Utd, for whatever reason he is done here and we can use the money for other players.

I think that’s about right.

given the Covid climate, a swap with Rice seems such an obvious move for both clubs.

Edit - with us laying West Ham the difference (obviously). Circa £30m.

I'm not completely sold on Rice.
McTominay does what Rice does and arguably better for some things (goalscoring for instance). Rice is a more powerful runner, but McTominay has a decent burst of speed as well. I don't think there is £30m difference between them basically.

Objectively there’s not a £30m difference...

but Rice would be moving to the bigger club, is younger, looking for make a step up, and in demand from at least Chelsea as well - Lingard is moving to a smaller club, less demand and a question mark over whether this form is temporary, as it’s off the bank of 2 years of being pretty poor.

I think Lingard and £30m is in the right ball park.

The same people who want lingard back prob complain we havent moved the deadwood on in players like Jones. Im sure if we loaned out jones he might be able to put a good month stretch in. Sell lingard/use him in a swap deal and move on. Thankfully we can sell from a better position than before his loan deal.

Would need to loan Jones to a cotton wool factory to get optimum results

I wish him well but I don’t see his current form lasting too long. Matter of time - hopefully we can get a good price.

Sell him and use the fee as part of a deal to get Bissouma. Rice would cost around 80m and he’s nowhere near worth it

Lingard, Lukaku, Di Maria, Blind, even Sanchez and Young are doing well after leaving us, you can't help but think it is us that is the issue.

Or, it could be the leagues they went to, with the exception of Lingard, who went to a team where he's the best in his position and the opposition doesn't stack 10 in the box most of the game.

Di Maria and Lukaku cost their clubs £50m and £70m. They should be doing well. That’s not a criticism to be levied at the club.

Young - so please he’s doing well, served our club with distinction.

Blind and Lingard are at smaller clubs.

Sanchez? Has he really done well?

Anyway - nothing wrong with players doing well when they leave. We don’t regret a single one of those transfers. The only one that I wish we had kept was Di Maria, but only if he had the right attitude/ application which clearly he didn’t.

In my view not everyone has what it takes to stand the immense pressure and scrutiny of being a United player. Our own fans are harder on our lads than any rival fans. I used to think it was the ABU media, but its really our own. We have huge expectations, rightly so, but I feel we have put the blame in the wrong place. Some lads can handle it better than others.

All of the lads you mentioned had great periods for this club (bar mercenaries of Sanchez and Di Maria who had a couple good games) but perform better elsewhere.

Blind for example had an unbelievable season next to Smalling for Van Gaal and then struggled under Mourinho.

So that's a range of players signed & sold from 2014 to 2019.

So are you suggesting it's no particular manager or coach is the problem. But Manchester United the club that is affecting these players?

James is shite, we don’t need shite footballers, Lingard is levels above. So yeah it’s very wow if we sell a good player brought through the academy and keep a Shiite player brought through a second rate academy
They also play different positions and Bruno is levels above Lingard

As others have mentioned not everyone can make it in a club as big as United. Plus the fact that other leagues/clubs might be easier to play in. Other clubs might also have playing systems that suit those players more. All this is true but on a separate note I have not seen any one significantly improve after joining us for a while other than a few exceptions (Shaw, Bruno) under Ole.

As the coaches have been different during that time, it can't be coaches but I feel as a club we don't put much resources on improving individual players that much. We seem to essentially be a plug and play club with no version updates.

He's doing quite well on loan, maybe he would be best away from the club, we would only stifle him if he came back.

Hence the form caveat. On form he has the intelligence to operate anywhere in the front 4.
Fair enough in this form yes he'd definitely be a head of James and Greenwood.

I still have my doubts he could maintain this level on the right though. He's never looked comfortable there for me.

Listen...if you’d rather keep James than Lingard, then that’s you.
Id rather we keep a player that will be used and used in his correct position. If we kept Lingard he wouldn't be used on the wing and wouldn't displace Bruno. Pointless keeping him

Id rather keep a player who’s good enough to play for us. Who could easily play across the front three. Than one who can play one position and if denied space is absolutely tragic. You keep hiding behind Bruno though

The whole team has hid behind Bruno as he's our best player. Lingard has been here for many more years and never sealed his place. Wonder why? A few good games for west ham and now he's gonna help us progress. Not a chance, the best he can offer us is a decent transfer fee to buy players to improve our team. James is an option for a position we are lacking in, but can strengthen with the money we get for Lingard.

Jesse has always been a good player. Inconsistent but good. West ham suits him, teams give West ham space, that's what jesse thrives on, no low blocks, energy and non stop running that jesse has works against that, he's not really suited to breaking down deep sitting teams imo. Give and goes etc. Delighted he's playing so well. Reading we value him at around 30m, I'd hope we could do a deal for rice and give them jesse and around50m. Then sort out our right wing position by signing sancho for 80 max. 120m spent on 2players that would make our first 11 much stronger. Of course there are other options for both positions, ndidi and neto etc. But rice and sancho would be make first choice. Hopefully jesse form continues and helps utd in the process.

Spot on. Something does not seem right. There was a time when if players left United, it was all downhill from there.

Sanchez hasn't. He's just doing cameos for Inter mostly. He's played under 900 minutes (10 full games) in the league so far this season. He went from being on the bench here to being on the bench at Inter.

Ashley Young did very well here, he's had a good career spanning 9 years. Under Mourinho he also had a renaissance and one of his best spells in the LWB position. He wasn't a failure here. It was merely a case of his career coming to a close in the high intensity EPL and him wanting a new challenge abroad.

Blind's done alright for Ajax but the Eredivisie ain't exactly EPL or even a top 5 league. People are getting carried away because of Ajax's one crazy CL run. He has moved down a level, both financially and in terms of difficulty. And yes he's doing well at that level.

Also worth nothing that everyone else apart from Lingard had proven themselves at other teams as well. Young was amazing for Villa, Di Maria for Benfica and Real, Lukaku for WBA and Everton, Blind for Ajax, Sanchez for Udineze, Barca and Arsenal. Lingard in the 10 years contracted at United only had one solid season in 17/18. The two seasons prior to that and after that he was generally poor with mostly cameos. Few ever believed Lingard had the makings of a top player.

Still calling him a success at West Ham is premature. He's barely been there 3 months. It's been a fruitful loan for West Ham but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
