The CL is a glorified FA Cup set to music

Thought we were quite poor and got dominated in midfield for most of the game. But we took our chances and are in a fantastic position to get into the semis now. Great night!
Porto had no cutting edge for all the great work they did in midfield. Plus their error for the second was comical.

Anyone know the refs name? That was a genuinely good, possibly faultless refereeing performance. Needs to be recruited for the PL

PSGs midfield without Verratti is awful.
I guess you can just bypass the midfield entirely when you have super talents in attack though.

This was an awful game to watch for my heart. I don’t know how PSG managed to get away with this. Verratti missing was definitely felt, same with Bayern missing Lewa. The huge gaps in the midfield for Bayern to freely exploit, it’s a small miracle that PSG got away with it there.

Mbappé was once again incredible in a big European team’s arena. Already has more goals than Thierry Henry in knockout games of the CL.

Neymar was up to his usual mix of complete sloppiness in bad areas and moments of genius like his pass for Marquinhos. Sublime to watch that one. At least he didn’t get a yellow card this time.

Bayern have it in them to go out despite playing well.

Went out against Inter like this in 2011,
lost the CL final against Chelsea like this in 2012,
went out against Atletico like this in 2016,
went out against Real somewhat like this in 2018,
lets see what happens against PSG in the return leg.

We not only have it in us, it's our signature move.

With Lewandoski Bayern would have won 5-1 or something like that.
Bayern were too ineffective but great at creating chances. Would have backed them to win the CL with Lewandoski.

Navas was good as well. They guy has been in 4 CL finals and won 3. Very underrated keeper.

You did see City play yesterday, right?
Yeah in knockout football anything can happen, look at how bad Chelsea are this season they just lost 5-2 and probably won’t make top 4 yet are in a CL semi final.

PSG are wide open city will rip them to pieces, Bayern are a top team but until Lewa comes back they‘ll struggle.

Ref was Mateu Lahoz, who is genuinely one of the worst refs in the world but tonight did surprisingly well

Great result for PSG but it was laughable the way BT sports commentator Paul Dempsey said it was one Pochs best ever team performances. Clinical yes 3 goals from 4 shots on target but it was a performance they gave Bayern 31 attempts on goal and who counted the cost of no Lewandowski tonight. Lucky for Poch we'll miss the 2nd leg also

As for the other match. Very much and as expected a routine win for Chelsea. Porto winning in the last round says a lot more about how much Juventus have regressed under Pirlo.

Can't believe we lost that.
We need a miracle healing of Lewandowski until next week.
Gnabry was tested positive on Covid yesterday, he's definitely out for next week.

I have absolutely no idea how Bayern lost that. Their players generally outclassed PSG’s, and imo, Flick outclassed Poch. Result isn’t the be all and end all when discussing that. Bayern absolutely suffocated PSG, and lost basically because PSG have Mbappe, who is just so good that we don’t even have to shower him I’m superlatives anymore. Him scoring and dominating is a formality these days. Credit to Danilo at the back too, who was absolutely imperious.

People are praising Bayern in attack while criticising the ultra high line, well, the high line enables them to press so well and win the ball back to continually begin/resume attacks. I love that style of play. You might ask them to compromise, but they’ll just point you to the sextuple.

On Chelsea, yeah they beat an EL standard team. Their route to the semi’s this year, if we had it, we’d have definitely made it too.

If Ole got a win like that the ‘individual brilliance’ posters would have a field day.

It's not our fault the Italian Champions couldn't do there job against the "EL standard team".

Furthermore it's not over yet, the CL has had too many second leg revivals in recent years.

Glaston was on the right track when he compared bayern to spurs. Really got that "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" stuff down like nobody's business

I think you’d have beaten Juventus too tbf, but so would we. They are an utter disaster under Pirlo.

Time to cash in. You can always count on Bayern to play the brain-dead high line with sub-par defenders against lethal attackers.
