People are weirdly bitter about him. He has been at a ridiculous level for 2 years and has shown generational level talent. Let's be honest even most of the top full backs in history were very average defensively so it's not even a big issue. Stick him next to a couple good cbs and he is one of the best in the world.

Scored today. One of the best ever again.
Yeah no.. He passed the ball like a blind Bebe today and lost the ball left right and center. He is absolutely shot but IT just had to be him.

Beckhamesk assist last Premier League game, goal scorer and match winner today.

'The shocking decline of Trent Alexander Arnold'.
You’re missing the ‘supports: Liverpool’ beneath your name, btw.

Cracking player, would love him here, extent of the criticism in this thread is ridiculous and solely down to who he plays for.

Good grief.
He's one of these classic "the current is the best" type clowns that litter forums.

He'll probably be saying he crosses better than Beckham.

If that was true, there would be a thread slating every Liverpool player.

The extent of the criticism is because of who he plays for, he’s had poor games but the negative views on him in here massively over the top.
Why isn't there a similar thread for Mane, Salah, Firmy, Hendo, the keeper, Robertson, who have all been off last season's form then?

Same as the Rashford narrative, from generational talent to not good enough. TAA is a fantastic player imo.

I agree with you - but the fact is that seems to be the call based on how he's approached qualifiers.
If England go in the Euro's with a defensive formation then Southgate might as well start polishing up his resume now. They are too good to play defensive and they will limp out in the 1/4's if they play that way...

He seems pretty set on playing 3 cbs and 2 dms, there’s no if’s or buts. It’s fine to play that way if the midfielders had some creativity but they don’t. Conte used Kante and Matic. Tuchel uses Jorginho and Kovacic. Southgate uses Philips and Rice. Not really the same calibre.

Quoted for the truth, if i said that i'd be classed as a Liverpool fan

Truth is though, I've just logged in and had 9 alerts of people quoting me and spitting goz in my direction, how pathetic is that?

And all that is because I'm the one of few here with bit of footballing knowledge and eye for footballing talent by saying a young 22 year old kid who was instrumental in Liverpool reaching 2 Champions League finals (winning 1) and winning the Premier League is not in decline, is a unique talent, but I’m wasting my time because I’m trying to get through to a bunch of people who hate my username (which may explain why I’m getting a lot of hate) as their loyalty is towards MartialFC, people who create threads like "does Ole smile too much?" and in general a 'so called' footballing forum whose collective voice was 'Harry Kane is a Championship level striker' and "one season wonder".

Don't take it too deeply its Liverpool you have to expect that most united fans will find any chance to make fun of them especially since this is the first time they have been poor in years. Most know he is a supreme talent.

Where the grass is greener.
The fact a defender who is praised for his attacking output doing a goal which everyone knows he's more than capable of, is being used as a big "I told you so!" moment by many really does miss the point a bit, doesn't it? We all know he's great going forward, if he'd had a brilliant defensive display yesterday and then capped it off with a goal, aye thats more like it, but he wasn't good yesterday, apart from the albeit important and great goal.

11 crosses yesterday, 0 successful.

Also gave the ball away countless other times.

Was caught out positionally AGAIN and should have conceded a pen (have no idea why it wasn't given), and was genuinely poor and would've been punished against a better team (a team like Madrid, for example). But he scores a spectacular (which he does on occasion) and now he's back to being a once-in-a-generation talent.

Word for word nailed it.

Everyone knows he’s excellent going forward, it’s the other end he struggles and get criticised for.

I don't think he will play the back 5. I think it will be a back 4 of Walker, Stones, Maguire and Shaw. But seems he will play 2 holding midfielders. Rice and Phillips were the most recent choices. If Henderson is healthy then he will take Phillips spot..

I only watched the second half of the game, but he was so poor again. People seem to think having a nice curve on a cross means you're class, but the point is the cross needs to find a man. What's the point of arcing the ball nicely if it goes to the opposition everytime? I lost count of how many crosses he spaffed.

Severely limited player, and way overhyped.

No - this thread is down to him last season being considered one of the best fullbacks in the world - and having the stats to back it up. Now he has been defensively poor - and hammers 20 crosses into the box every game With 19 of them hitting defenders. If Tierney as considered the best fullback in the World and had a season where he was as poor at TAA - the same thread would be created.

The fact that he plays for Liverpool just makes it more enjoyable

Last season he finished second to KDB in terms of assists, breaking the record for assists by a PL defender. A record that was previously held by himself. Because he's a player who got 30 assists in his first 93 PL appearances.

That's probably why people say he's class. Because he repeatedly found his man and created goals. Not because of a curvy cross.

For the sake of future-proofing opinions and threads, it's probably best to stick to criticising his defensive frailties.

Hes gotten lazy in his way of getting the cross in. He tries it from a lot deeper now that no amount of movement from their small strikers can win.

This cat is another contender for being immediately inserted into the General after promotion.

Thankfully we will have a long time before that occurs.
