Patrick Bamford is worthy of a mention,
First season in the Premier League, is currently at 14 league goals in 31 games,
You would imagine that he could easily get to 20-25 goals in a full season in a higher quality side. And he's entering his prime years too.

Copy & pasted the following on his 'style of play' from Wiki;

"Bamford is a versatile forward, who can play as a lone striker (which is how he has been almost exclusively utilised by Bielsa since his arrival at Leeds United) or in a pair, and can also play in an attacking midfield position or on either wing. He is known for his technique and ability on the ball and his delivery of assists, as well as his proficiency in the air. Although deployed as a solitary striker, Bamford also provides one of the highest rates of assists for a player in his position in the Premier League"

Andre Silva is reported to have a 30 mill. euro release clause. Surely thats worth a punt if Cavani goes and we cant get in anyone else?

Not good enough.

Replacing Cavani means replacing him with top class player not with some non-top class one. If we can't get can't get Kane or Haaland or someone on similar level then I would rather us stick with Rashford, Martial & Greenwood as striker and buy Sancho.

I've seen some suggestions of Rashford - Martial/Greenwood - Sancho forward line. Looks really nice on paper tbh but it's a big gamble as Greenwood has not impressed as No.9 and Martial is has had a terrible season.

Kane and Haaland seem to be the only top strikers available but looks unlikely for us. Moving past them the list of strikers we could get are a bunch of tier 2/3 strikers - Silva, El Nesyri, Isak,. Belotti, Ings, Daka, Morelos, Bamford, Edouard etc. All of these names are 50/50 and look be more likely a flop or decent option rather than elevate our attack to the next level. The best course of action here would be to go for a low risk high reward striker that suits our style. Where we wouldn't lose much if we he fails to perform

Ings, Belotti and Silva fits the bill. Ings having one year left would be cheap and if he can keep scoring this season then he should be the first choice given he has the advantage of being Pl proven. Belotti would be my second choice. Also has one year left for a low tier team so should also be cheap. He seems consistent and performs despite the team he's in. Silva will be third choice. Not sure how true it is but if he's available for 30m then he should be worth a punt

One other option that I'm sure would have been most people's first choice that isn't Haaland or Kane Is Jimenez. His injury makes it a no go but if he comes back and shows that he's still as good then he'd be the perfect choice

Actually i couldn't see that happening. For a couple of reasons, one he's playing in a very very attacking and creative side already - He's not playing for a burnley where he only gets half chances. Two, he misses bags and bags of chances, the reason they stick with him is because he works so hard in the build up and Bielsa loves his contribution to the style of football. He'd not likely do any better in a higher quality side. Leeds fans thought he would be replaced this season because of the amount of was missing in the championship, he's become more consistent this season but still misses a lot which wouldn't be solved by better team mates.

Yes that's a fair observation, although we could likely make good use of a hardworking CF as a pose to more laid back strikers like Martial even as a rotational squad player.

My reservations about Haaland is that I don't believe he will stay at a club for more than 2-3 seasons and again with that agent and the shit show that comes with him.

With Kane its his cost and lack of resale value not to mention his injury record.

But both are world class, any other option is a step down in class.

Ings is the perfect fit for me.
- Works hard
- Would be fine with competition
- Would push Martial
- Would maybe be okay with a sub-role as long as we're in a lot of competitions that matter
- A great no nonsense finisher
- Great off the ball positions for Bruno and Pogba to find him
- In his prime/mature years as a forward
- Has momentum these years (good form)
- Cheap
- Is hungry

Hmm.. Didnt think I'd be able to throw 10 bulletpoints in favor for Ings when I started typing :D

He's also pl proven. He's the safest option we could go for. I think there's a chance we end up with him. This place will go on a meltdown though going from Haaland and Kane to Ings seems really underwhelming

For me Harry Kane could be our new RVP.
If we get him I’m certain we are winning the title next season.

Yeah, i agree. We need to be looking more at players who we think can get x amount of goals a season irrespective of whether theyve played for Real Madrid or Doncaster Rovers. We're too often tied up looking for players with the 'right profile' who absolutely everyone has already identified.

I dont think we'd be willing to pay what he'd cost in reality. I think we're more likely to go for a less obvious target and probably someone quite young.

Dusan Vlahovic at Fiorentina looks a real prospect. 21 years old 6'4, good finisher.

I fear that's the mentality of some United fans, maybe the majority? Lots have been spoiled so only want 'galactico' scale signings.
In lieu of actual footballers that can make the difference to our squad, you know like players in the Saha, Teddy, Berba, Chicharito, Wellbeck mold as strikers.

He's a bang average Championship striker who is having the season of his life in a team that do nothing bar attack. He'll get 8 next season, max.
... In your opinion.

He's a grafter that finds assisting goals is just as important as scoring them.

I'm not saying he's the new Rooney, just worth a mention as he is entering his prime years and would be a useful squad player and worth a mention.

But you're entitled to your opinion.

I’m not against Ings but I’m not convinced he’ll be as cheap as you’d expect and don’t see value in signing him if it doesn’t work out. Sounds like they’ll be a few interested sides (City, us, Spurs etc) so can’t see Southampton selling for anything less than £30 mil and could see him being difficult to move on if doesn’t hit the heights of last season. He’s been ok this year but last year is the only time in his career he’s looked capable of being a number 9 for a top side, if we could get him for £20 mil or below it’d be a better signing otherwise I’d prefer we go for someone else

Yep in my opinion - and that of a number of Leeds fans I know who have watched him week in, week out for years.

There are probably 20 strikers in the league I think we'd sign ahead of him.

EDIT - Just seen your post about United fans wanting galactico type signings and pointing to Sheringham, Berbatov and Saha as if they weren't THE outstanding striker not currently at one of the top clubs at the times we signed them.

If we're looking for a stop gap, well, Giroud will be free this Summer.

30m sounds cheap to me these days for great service over maybe 3 years.

If it’s not Kane or Haaland, it should be Sancho and Cavani for another year.

Let’s get in real quality this summer and give the team the best chance of competing

I wouldn’t take him here but no way. Bang average Championship striker with 14 goals and 10 assists, and who has been available to start every game this season?

Is he guaranteed great service though is the point I’m making? He’s only ever hit more than 15 goals twice in his career and started off playing in league 1 and the championship. Plus he’s had injuries to both knees in the past although to be fair I don’t remember him being out for prolonged periods since joining Southampton. 30 mil is a decent chunk of change after Covid especially for someone who might not be capable of a step up, Van de Beek was signed for a similar amount and he’s already labelled a flop and waste of money but the benefit there is we’d the get majority of what we paid if we moved him on

I go for Patson Daka and think if we can get him in the summer before he goes elsewhere and really makes his name would be good business.
Good age and good work ethic and he looks like he can finish on either foot and aerially as well.
I still have hope for Martial and having a trio of him along with Daka and Mason should set us up well for the future.

Is anyone guaranteed success?

He's clinical these Soton seasons, so buying a player that has momentum and is hungry to prove himself is probably the best guarantee you can get. He's also adapted to Premier League already, where a player like Andre Silva might flop due to not being able to cope with the demands. When you look at the alternatives, Ings is probably one of the more guaranteed players to deliver something.

Obviously no one is and as I said I’m not against signing Ings but in a market where we’re saying we’d be lucky to get close to 50 mil for Pogba with one year left I don’t think Ings for 30 is cheap
