I presume it works in American sports because it has been the model from the beginning? I like that there is no relegation/promotion in those sports because it makes sense in the American context, but it has no business in European sports.
A max wage budget and especially max season transfer spend could easily be implemented right now and not at all affect the rest of the game as a whole. Don't you agree? Lets say that teams can only spend 100m a season. Thats doable isn't it, if you care about fairness? Some teams could afford the whole 100m, others couldn't but it creates a more level playing field.

They seem to be assuming this is instead of the Premier league just because it has the word "league" in the title.

You're not going to have a mere 18 game season surely.

How they'd work it in with 38 games in the league on top I do not know though.
UEFA said participated clubs will be banned from domestic and European competitions

The Arena of the Unwell
and Sky, BT, BBC, ITV etc will likely lose out too, so obviously there will be a lot of vested interest in discrediting the proposal
Yeah I'd be fairly distrustful of outrage from those who have a vested interest in the status quo.

It's what I thought of when I heard how angry Neville was on commentary about it.

Hate this and hate the concept, but Sky acting so scandalised and upset after their own heavy involvement in the current state of football as such a money driven machine can do one. They're just panicking they'll be losing some of their cut

Too drastic for football and made during very sensitive moments of pandemic crisis.

Many things feels just unsettling with this idea.

I would pay to hear what Fergie thought of this. If he still had big influence at the club then I can't see us being involved. Football is a game for the people, local working class is where it started.

These cocks know nothing about it but have all the power. We're a disgrace and the writing has been on the wall for our club for the past 8 years.

Of course, this can only happen based on two things:

1) United (and the rest of the big 6 clubs) negotiate with the PL to also play there, along with staying in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. The European Super League becoming the main league for us (and everyone else signing up) would be stupid to say the least. We are an English club, Barcelona are a Spanish club, Juve Italian etc etc.

2) There is a yearly qualification for the European Super League, thus sides like Leicester, Everton and West Ham can still make it. Otherwise, the top end of the PL, aside from winning it, would be absolutely pointless.

If this criteria is met, then it’s fine. I’ll be indifferent to it. It’s basically just us playing the likes of Real and Barcelona in both halves of the season instead of just the second.
That would never happen, as the national associations and UEFA would be completely opposed. The Champions League and Europa League already exist for competition across national borders. This would be very different: the breakaway clubs would have to resign from UEFA and go it alone, leaving their national leagues.

Gary Neville spot on. Disgraceful from Liverpool, Arsenal and Utd - the pinnacle of English football.
Spot on. I’ve never been so ashamed of my club.

All the fortune and fame this league has brought us and we are willing to rip up our ties to it just to line the pockets of owners.

I think this is me done with football.

This. People need to calm down and take an outside perspective of the situation.

The move would be to make the PL an 18 or 16 team league, which what UEFA wanted at one stage anyway!

I’ll keep my powder dry until we see the detail behind this.

I won’t spare a tear for the death of the top four race every season at the expense of interest in domestic cups and just proving yourself in the domestic league. My understanding from what I have read is that this is more of a threat to the CL, rather than the domestic leagues. Why does the CL have to be the premier continental competition?

People have to be careful not to take a luddite attitude to change. The Football League was against any English teams even competing in European competitions initially.

I’d be pretty aghast if this turns out to be Manchester United no longer wanting to play English domestic football though.
The biggest luddite attitude to change is the belief it is also needed and always good.

Feel for Ole then, but there's absolutely no chance that he doesn't know about this.

So what? Hasn't it been demonstrated that it costs the city money? So if the city residents know this and they vote against it, then I see no problem.
No one sees a problem, I don't really understand your tone here. I simply gave you the different outcomes and the reason why residents often aren't massively against those stadiums.

To those who says ”but UEFA is bad to”. Well, UEFA isn’t perfect but who are giving money to smaller federations? To even say that they are on same level as this proposed fake league is so far from the truth.
And even so, this proposal takes everything that's bad about UEFA and cranks it up to 11.

It's like you have a cold, and then you say 'ah I'm sick anyway so let's take a bath in ionising radiation'.

Without the lure of Champions League football revenue, and replacing that with a guaranteed income would be a) great for the Glazers and b) shit for the quality /investment in our side

I don't like the idea of this league, but as you say Sky have driven the money grabbing culture.

Sky as in who? Neville? He's not Sky. He works for them currently, but he's a football man through and through.

am I right though that there is no cap on what players get paid? so the money saved in one way goes in another. I think the top QBs get way more than most PL players but I could be wrong

Can somebody explain to me how this is even a thing when virtually everyone is against it?? If Man United (or any club for that matter) were to turn their back on the fans in this manner, I would never forgive them.
You only have to look in this thread to see there’s some people that are for it. Most likely people that have never set foot in a football stadium.
It’s a joke. Would make the main leagues completely irrelevant.

Yeah sure, players are suddenly gonna choose to play for Sheffield United instead of Barcelona, and get paid 5 times less cause they might not play in a World Cup.
Not Sheffield, but definitely a Spurs or a Athletico or a City who will pump in the oil money to win the non Super League competitions.

Yep! All 3 clubs should hang their heads in shame.
One thing I will say about his comments though is when he said that he thought better of Liverpool people than this. This isn't anyone from Liverpool (the city) making this decision. This is a statement of pure greed by our American owners.

Don't really have an opinion with what little we know.

I'm quite confident that if it does happen, regardless of how much we don't like it, we'll all watch it though.

Premier League had this coming when they let Abramovich, Glazers, Henry, Mansour and all these foreign owners come in. You can have your growth with them pumping money in but eventually they’ll have the power.
Well said - ban Mansour. Glazers out

Every single organisation criticising this is the biggest hypocrite going. They're all fecking money obsessed, including Sky Sports. That said, haven't the changes UEFA are proposing been framed as a cash grab too? And one that protects the elite clubs? It seems theres just multiple shit shows happening here, all the same time. And it all involves self interest.
