Yes. The saudis cant take over Newcastle, but City can do what they like. However imperfect as it is, we have to resist this ... Glazers out. Super League out. These leeches will ruin the sport, and then be far away when the whole thing falls apart.
UEFA and the FA have already done that with PSG and City, get your head out from the sand. The Glazers don't own Barcelona, but UEFA are forcing their hand because the spineless fecks did nothing.

Yes. The club should be punished for this and Ole and the players should be absolutely furious. All 6 teams should be docked significant points and the league have my full support to do just that.
I agree.

That only works as an argument until the point where the big clubs can't be relegated and get more cash than the rest.

It is possible to be anti UEFA and still be against this ridiculous proposal.

Yeah that wouldn't stand up in court for a moment. There's absolute zero there about "showing intent".
What? It doesn’t fecking exist yet. We can’t enter a competition that doesn’t fecking exist until 2024.
It would go down as "bringing the league into disrepute" & the league would hold the right to suspend membership on those grounds. It will be in the league handbook somewhere without a shadow of a doubt.

Rule L9 of the Premier League Handbook:
Except with the prior written approval of the Board, during the Season a Club shall not enter or play its senior men’s first team in any competition other than:
L.9.1. the UEFA Champions League;
L.9.2. the UEFA Europa League;
L.9.3. the F.A. Cup;
L.9.4. the F.A. Community Shield;
L.9.5. the Football League Cup; or
L.9.6. competitions sanctioned by the County Association of which it is a member.

Signing up to a new competition would undoubtedly show intent to enter.

Yeah, completely agree.
I was puzzled about what the points deduction was based on. If it's that, then there's no way it's enforceable.

I really hope the Super League doesn't happen. I think it's an awful idea. But so is the points deduction suggestion if it's based on that.

Gary Nevile mentioned it. There are a lot of social media accounts whom are in unison.

If we can wrestle our club back, I'd take the nuclear route -- The Rangers route.

What do these competitions matter now anyway? They've been compromised imo. Intertoto European Cups.
Yes. If we could navigate to be a fully fan owned club I'd be totally behind it.

Where has this newfound ‘integrity’ of the Premier League and UEFA come from?

The same PL that sanctioned the Glazers, Abramovic and Abu Dhabi unopposed?

The same UEFA that wilted under their own FFP regulations and were made to look like knobs by City?

The same UEFA that allowed deals like Neymar and Mbappe to happen and turned a blind eye to inflated sponsorship deals?

The same UEFA whose ex-president Platini was guilty of corruption and banned?

The integrity of these pathetic organisations has been corroded away over the past couple of decades. They are motivated by greed and money, just as the leaders of this ‘Super League’ are. This turn of events was inevitable. The same applies to the broadcasting networks - they’re going to lose out on a huge chunk of the broadcasting pie which is why the likes of Sky are in uproar.

Don’t delude yourselves into thinking the PL and UEFA are some holy philanthropic party - they are anything but.

The league would be able to punish them however they see fit as the clubs will have brought the league into disrepute.

I find it really funny that some people here are say we are running away from the evil UEFA and FA. In reality we are being greedy, selfish, and fecking over the rest of English football.

Same organisations running players into the ground by not cancelling the Euros during a pandemic because they have too much money to lose and forcing a winter world cup on top of that to really shorten players careers. Or Sky who refuse to help our clubs out with fixture congestion because they get to choose what game goes where and feck players welfare, its in the contract.. Per Jeff Shreeves. Or lets get everybody together and put Burnely v Wolves on ppv.
Pre pandemic they had my sympathy. Not now.

If we signed up for this I would absolutely accept a points deduction. I'd take all the clubs getting as harsh a punishment as possible.

The shortsightedness of some fans here not to see how this would fck over all the other clubs in the country is unreal. Destroy English football so 5 clubs get richer. How can anyone be in favour of a competition where teams are not relegated based on their status?

If the premier league wants to keep the big clubs in fold, a point deduction would be the worst possible thing to do. It would reinforce their need to break away and form their league. A ham fisted approach is the wrong move, if anything, the league needs to sit down with the clubs and solve the issue more diplomatically.
100%. People are getting emotional which I understand but the bottom line is all of this, on both sides, is about money. The last thing the PL wants to do is get rid of a huge majority of support over this, and they'd be stupid to do so quite frankly. People need to wake up and stop living in some honorable fairytale where football is still just about the sport like it was 40 years ago. It's an industry of entertainment now and the big players could give two fecks about whether we won our game against Burnley today.

100% this. Heads were buried in sand for years and if you weren't bothered by city and psg facing off in a CL semi then f**k you if all of a sudden you're concerned about the games integrity
Fully agree with this but that doesn't change that for me leaving a league competition that has been going on for over a 100 years to go into a money league with no meaning and not any losers because they will all get loaded like never before and no team will drop league.

I can't get into that that's line drawn for me.

Yes this super league is just beyond comprehension in how rubbish it sounds even if you get past how terrible it is sportingly. But its the product of complacency

Why would anyone accept any punishment? It is not against any existing rule to plan what to do in a few years time.

Precisely. I don’t understand the sudden outpouring of sympathy for them. These organisations hate the power not being in their hands.

It seems in every sphere of life that power is getting concentrated and shifted more and more into the hands of elites, football is no exception.

On a side note it would be funny if all those clubs were deducted 30 points. Leicester or West Ham for the league title :D

The true north.
Super League idea sucks.

Current situation with random billionaires and states running things also sucks.

Sky Sports leading the charge against greed in football sucks.

FIFA punishing others for wanton greed sucks.

In short, football is much harder for me to enjoy than it once was. Unfortunately I don't see it changing any time soon.

*In response to the actual thread title, sure.

Yes, this is one thing people don't seem to understand. A lot of football clubs have problems trying to compete and they have to find a way to make more money. Also, maybe some don't like this idea very much, but are afraid to be left behind if they don't accept.

It is easy for PSG and Bayern to say no, they will dominate their leagues most of the time, but for other teams it is not that easy, especially in England.

Now, Real, Barcelona and the Italians have their owns issues.

To be fair, so long the domestic league stays and is taken seriously, I really don't care to much what happens with CL as it has change so many times during my lifetime, that it doesn't matter anymore.
A super league will feck over the domestic competitions as well. There's money, glory, sponsorships deals, attracting players etc tied to being able to play in Europe. The gap between these 6 clubs and the rest domestically will become far too big.

There's no getting rid of the Glazers due to a point deduction btw, no idea why people think they'll sell because Utd get deducted points. They only care about the money

Man City should immediately be docked 9 points which would send out a strong message to the other clubs.

yes if United joins the Super League then I will stop supporting them until they realize that this is not what the majority of fans want.

I am not in support of superleague, but there is an obvius problem UEFA and domestic leagues can't handle and I do understand clubs who want a change. Yes, there is greed in it, lot of missmanagment, but as it has been mentioned, look at the Premierleague, noone can really compete with City, in France noone can compete with PSG (yes, sometimes things change for a little bit, but it all comes back to these clubs winning the league), Bayern does not care as they are winning the league at will,.... I do not feel sorry for the Spanish clubs, but when it comes to Premierleague clubs they are mostly run properly, have the money the TV deal is realtively fair and still have no chance against City.

Yes.

This is surely has been the Glazers long term plan for years now, 350 million euros come in handy looking at the club debts.

Has Ed given an interview today anywhere today?

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
If it was all the Prem "big 6" that got booted and they gave the Champions League and Europa places to the next best placed sides, I would find that pretty funny to be honest.

Chuck in another transfer ban as well, that was kinda fun.
