I think it’ll be fecking cool to play the other big boys in Europe really frequently throughout every season. And saving myself the stress about CL qualification or attracting world class players.

Absolutely. I just hope that these Yank revolutionaries also bring along the concept of drafts, so that we may actually have a chance of picking up talents like Mbappe and Haaland.

Never been a fan of this idea but I don't like the mass hysteria - first of all, selling this as an attack on domestic leagues is a bit overreaching, since it's obvious none of the founding clubs would leave their national leagues and Premier League will look the same next year and in five years time. It's an attempt to feck over UEFA and Champions League only, and for all my sentiment for CL, memories and just pure emotions when I hear "the champions", I have little sympathy for corrupted to the bone UEFA lads. One greedy motherfecker made a business move on another rather suspicious player, I don't get the good vs evil narrative. Also, there are bonus points to like Super League as:
- Al-Khelaifi is now the most powerful club owner with UEFA and PSG ain't in the Super League yet for BeIN contracts for CL rights + WC 2022, so if you hate PSG and their criminal owners, you can enjoy they're mad now
- if Champions League gets cancelled this year City won't win it again and will never do, this is as it should go down in history
- United was effectively recognised (again, but who doesn't like recognition) as the biggest club in England and top3 globally (top2 in fact, Juve a bit irrelevant), with Perez being capo di tutti capi (rightly so, Madrid has the most titles and this guy is a beast), we take the VP along with very powerful and influential Agnelli cementing our position over likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea that were not even considered

Why doesn't that happen already with the CL? Or especially, why didn't it happen with the old European Cup?
Because you still have to qualify for the CL next year in your league (and avoid relegation)

In terms of the old European Cup, domestic Cup competitions obviously had a greater level of importance back then. Also again, avoiding relegation.

Who's going to get banned from their domestic league?

The remaining 14 clubs would be bankrupt within 6 months once all the TV deals get pulled out of their feet once BT/Sky realise they're worth feck all if they can't show the 30+ games of each of the top 6.
I said if. But personally I hope they're banned . Do you think the games of the top 6 will be worth a feck after this is enacted? They will shift priority immediately.

I can see why the big clubs would do this. UEFA aren’t coming in with clean hands and wanted to expand the champions league even further, which the big clubs knew was all a cash grab. Maybe UEFA needs to go back to its roots on the champions league and lessen the number of teams that qualify to allow the Europa to become a more meaningful tournament. Maybe only the top 2 qualify from each big league while the rest qualify for Europa. UEFA created this mess as well with their greed.

No, I care about my own entertainment, thanks.
How entertaining is watching the same games over and over with nothing of the drama or repercussions of a normal season?

It’s not surprising, it appears you’re brainwashed by your current country’s ’I’m alright Jack’ mentality. As long as you’ve got yours then feck everyone else.

There’s a reason football is the biggest game on the planet and it isn’t elitism and selfishness.

If it happens, i will definetly avoid it. I will probably continue to follow the PL and still support United in it, but the Super League can feck off.

Yeah, it also seems like a way for traditionally big clubs to control the spending of clubs like City and PSG when UEFA have promised to do something but have essentially done very little beyond levying meaningless fines.

What happens when we’ve pillaged them all And there’s nothing left? And do you not care about anyone elwe?

Why would we bother to pillage when we’re guaranteed the income each year? The Glazers won’t spend if they don’t have to.
Exactly. This is what the Glazers have always wanted - a closed shop with no relegation where income is independent from performance.

They will pocket the cash and we'll be among the lowest spenders in the whole shitty Super League on transfers/salaries.

They can now turn off the taps with total impunity.

You actually have to EARN that right though through sporting achievement in the current format rather than elitism. The stress is part of the spectacle...or was.

I really think this is a key driver and the only reason I’d support this, if it means killing off financial doping.

UEFA have done nothing and neither has the premier league, and all this talk of “sporting merit” is laughable whilst they stand by and watch the oil clubs take over.

So because I think it'll be entertaining and you disagree I'm brainwashed? I have no idea what my "current country" have to do with any of this considering where I came from that's hardly a fair statement, maybe think that I don't give a feck about your entertainment because you didn't give a feck about my well being before moving countries? The length some go over a game.

I can’t stand the glazers but this narrative never made sense to me. You don’t spend 80m on a CB if you’re only competing for top 4.

That’s the whole point of football, the emotions. It’s more than just a game to anyone that doesn’t watch it for new and shiny. How on earth do you honestly think football became so big? Why do you think people care about sports so much?

When you boil it down to the basics and make it about money you lose the whole point of liking it to begin with.

It’s a very American way of looking at things, you’re based in America, It’s unsurprising that you don give a shit about anyone else. Like I said, as long as you’ve got yours then feck everyone else right?

Nobody will truly give a shit about winning the Super League and everybody will be aware of it, I don’t think that breeds any entertainment or competition whatsoever.

To thousands if not millions of people, football is not just a game.
That's fair, it's been just a game to me for years, so maybe they should've considered that there are different views on football before saying that stuff to me?

You do if you think that not spending that money might cost you top 4, with all the financial penalties that come along with that.

Now there is no top 4 or any incentive to spend any money, ever. It's a closed shop where income will remain steady regardless of whether we are decent, or absolutely terrible.

I think the same statements or arguments were the same some 30+ years ago when the PL was formed and then later the Champion's league.
The smaller, lower league clubs, they would have argued the same things when the EPL was introduced then the Champion's League. They would say that nothing has changed.

They would claim that there has never been an open, fair competition. Why has the EPL won only by the same few clubs? It's rigged.

And for FIFA and UEFA, organisations that are so corrupt that it makes some African banana republics shake their collective heads, to come out and be sanctimonious about this announcement... it beggars belief. They are just upset that their golden egg or honey pot will be reduced and power undermined.

So not over-react and lets wait and look at the details.

I agree with the sentiment of this post. I'm not thrilled about the idea of Super League but I'm also not outraged, just surprised that they actually went through with it. Time will tell what this leads to, but I'm certainly not in boycott mode right now. And as you said, I don't get the good vs evil narrative, there are no good guys in this. UEFA has had this coming for a while, and this is a result of incompetence & corruption.

I'm looking forward to it. Pretty sure they'll do a better job than UEFA in the long run.

I've been in America for 2 and a half years most of that in lockdown, why would that mean that being on American ground made me change my views? I think it's you that been lying to themselves thinking that football hasn't been about money since mid 2000s at least, like I've said before I made my peace with that so this isn't a shock to me, it's to be expected.

I wouldnt be surprised to see OT be extended now. More corporate boxes need and increase the capacity to 100k. If they even think about demolishing OT then I will go out and start protesting.

This is my BIGGEST issue with it. If they said the qualification was for instance the top 3 in each league, I'd be all up for it.

Seeing teams like Arsenal fumble their way to 9th place in the league and then turn up in the elite competition is just
100% this. Take the big 5 leagues, takes the top 3 teams and add the winners from the next 5 leagues. 20 teams .

Why not make them count for six points. You could then maybe add "field goals" in for three points, perhaps change the shape of the ball a bit too, and let players oick it up and run with it, while wearing helmets.

Obviously cheer leaders and halftime entertainment from Beyonce are a must.

Anyone who supports this is not a real football fan and they definitely aren’t United fans. You should go and watch Basketball or some other shite sport. I wish these greedy billionaires would leave our game and club alone. Anyone trying to watch a super league game at OT needs to be stopped from entering the ground. They’ve really overstepped the mark now, There needs to be mass protest.

Does it not sadden you to think that you would never see United lift the European cup again?

The cup which is so intertwined with our history. The Busby babes, the holy trinity, Fergie’s treble winners, that night in Moscow.

Meh why not it's something different. At it's worst it might hopefully force football supporters into thinking about the structural issues of capitalism and football(This super league is just the outcome of capital accumulation)rather than having their frustrations get easily brought off by transfers or some positives results.

Bring on the alienation!

Imagine being in a relegation battle in the super league. It’s not beyond us to be that shit again despite this minor resurgence under Ole.
