The way I remember it is that Seattle didn't want to shell out hundreds of millions for a new venue and the OKC owners only bought them because the previous owners didn't want to pay either. With the state Old Trafford is in who's to say the same couldn't happen in 10 or 15 years?
Seattle didn't agree with Schulz on a new venue which is partially why he sold but moving to OKC had nothing to do with Seattle not being able to sustain a team and everything to do with the owners wanting to move their franchise to their hometown. Think about it this way OKC didn't offer a new arena and the current arena isn't a 500m sexy arena, he used that as an excuse to renege on the good will agreement to stay in Seattle which was predicted at the time.

I bet he is talking about the Glazers. They just do not care about anything, only about money. You saw, how they toke over United, and they did not care about the club, the fans or the history - they just wanted a good buisness. It is same now - and we can not stop them, because they just do not care about any of the consequences. Only the politicans might have the power to stop them:

I don't see how these 6 teams can be allowed to continue playing in the Premier League if this commences and they're pocketing hundreds of millions more than the other teams in the League in some side competition that they control and almost no one else can enter. The deck is already stacked against them and this would turn it into a farce, they would have to be banned out of fair play.

Still been absorbing this and when someone up the thread mentioned how we will never have the chance to lift the European Cup again, it really hits home. It's just so sad. No team will ever be able to truly claim they are kings of Europe again.

Could be like in boxing where you have different belts. If we win the Super League, but Bayern win the CL then who are really the kings of Europe? Fecking load of shit and completely devalues the whole sport.

Exactly. No relegation, guaranteed money. We'll sit in limbo
Reckon they would spend big year one, I would be amazed if all the founders don't to try and drive interest. It would quickly tail off though.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
It's how the leagues were created in the first place. The draft system..
On this point, the American sports work in a closed shop environment because colleges are HUGE business and keep up the regular supply of top quality sportsmen ready to take the step into the NFL, NBL etc.

Where do the next generation of footballers come from? Right now, kids play on parks then go to a local junior club then maybe a county team then get spotted by scouts but there are 92 clubs (and non league) to take them in.. they don't all go straight to United or Madrid, plenty take a circuitous route. Without the pyramid (the equivalent breeding ground to US college system), it's done?

It's been leaked that the 12 clubs would consider moving the clubs around because they aren't happy there is 2 Manchester and 3 in London.
I think there's a hole in that leak.

Can anyone seriously see Stadiums that have been attended by millions of people for many decades suddenly closing.

You wouldnt see the Utd fans doing that, pussies all talk and no action. Fair fecks get everyone down the stadiums who live locally
Don't think it matters much to be honest. Games would ideally be played all over the world, and for every local fan who's not turning up out of protest there's probably ten who would die to attend a Liverpool-Utd or Barca-Real tie, especially in the USA or Asia.

Have any notable or former or current players spoken out in support of this idea - and if so what are their reasons ?

The fact this whole thing was conceived by extra wealthy owners like the Glazers and Perez while going around with those who actually had a career in footie is enough of a red flag to me - and should be to everyone else. Especially considering the owners of the clubs involved aren't known to have the best interests of their clubs at heart.

Why would we get better signings?
agents will just increase the price. Do you think Haalands price wouldn’t suddenly sneak up to 150m+
the second thing is the owners will just bank more cash
Do i think it means we are more likely to sign Haaland? No! but I think it means we may actually have the money to sign Haaland, if he wanted to come here. People seem to completely ignore the effect the pandemic has had on football and are still having paddies when clubs don't spend 100's of millions on the latest flavour of the week.

Do UEFA have clean hands? Absolutely not. The moment they started expanding the champions league, they essentially sacrificed its integrity for the money. Now they’re shocked that the big clubs have banded together to create a super league all for the money. feck UEFA, they helped create this mess.

Instead of expanding an already bloated champions league how about reducing it so that it’s only 2 or 3 clubs in the big leagues who qualify, with the rest going to an expanded knockout only UEFA cup. The quality of competition in both would increase and it would put to death the “top 4 trophy.”
Uefa were bullied into expanding the CL mainly by the g14 and English clubs. Lets not forget that, that idea was pushed through by some of the same shitty clubs behind this ESL. They wanted to play top European level without earning it and cover their own asses.
The CL got expanded to accommodate them and their greed, or should Uefa have kept it the same size allowed 4 teams from England and denied the Dutch/Russian leagues their chances.
They thought if there was more spots for them they'd never miss out, but they still conspired to feck things up. Then it was again those clubs who demanded a bigger reformed CL (that they could never miss out on as past winners etc...)
Uefa were again gonna crumble and have CL reform where it again expanded and clubs like United could never miss out because of a ranking bonus based on history. You think shit like that was a Uefa idea?
Uefa are rubbish but make no mistake all changes to the CL were g14 powered bullying.
And it still wasn't enough for them when the World Series of Mega SoccerBall came on the horizon.

If moving somewhere else would generate more money: Yes, absolutely. We are talking about people that see football as a bunch of numbers to juggle with, not a sport.

Sorry but I have to ask, why were Spurs invited to participate in this competition?

No offence intended to fans of the club, but, I mean, it's Spurs? :houllier:

Genuine question. Could the government get involved to seize the 6 clubs from the owners? Put some form of social importance on them to stop this happening again in the future? It should have been done years ago. The sport has far more importance to European people than money.

Maybe. You'd wonder what all the stars at Bayern psg and dortmund are thinking, surely they'll all want to play in it?

It will be like Formula One, with games played across the world: el classico in Dubai; the Manchester derby in New York etc. U2 playing at half time, or perhaps quarter time. And just like the American sports, no relegation.

They will want to milk it for its last penny.

Would love it if/when this falls flat on its arse and they have to go back pretending it didn't happen, tails between their legs. Mobsters and leeches might have played their cards a bit too early.
Think this is pretty mich a case of when is the Super League starting rather than if. These lot are determined to push this through, at all costs.

Probably because without Spurs 75% of the clubs in the League could vote together on something, with 6 of them its only 70% and that probably doesn't cross some threshold.

Could they? Sure. Will they? Given that the government are the same kind of twats as these club owners, probably not.

I hope kick off times are changed so they suit America better. Only seems fair that we start having games kicking off at 1am because they're paying for it all.

UEFA has become an economic powerhouse and an entity on its own.

Don't think that this isn't an infected battle is about greed on both sides where no one is a good guy.

The clubs are just trying to get more of the cake that UEFA keeps to themselves. The media rights deal.
The clubs are destroying their own domestic leagues and that will cripple the divisions below them, it's not about good and evil it's about the degrees of the latter, what these clubs are doing is so self centered it's indefensible on any level and worse than UEFA.

According to the Financial Times the organizers of the Super League have been trying to secure deals with Amazon, Facebook, Disney and Sky.

Well, it seems that the vast majority of fans disagree with you.
currently. But then the majority of fans thought Sanchez was a "bargain" and had a paddy when the club refused to break the transfer record in the middle of a pandemic when the club was hemerging money. So been in the majority does not always make you right, especially when it comes to football.

I would also add that I am not in favour of the super league I think it is a general idea for football as a whole. I just don't think this is move is the slap in the face to us "legacy fans" that the 'vast majority' seem to as is offering fans of united a better footballing product.

I wouldn't be surprised if they see the future of football as more akin to American sports franchises - businesses first, with a fanbase that is geographically flexible (and far larger than any NFL or NBA franchise), and one that is not bound to any location. The city in the club's name is mostly there for legacy and branding purposes - you can't buy that kind of brand loyalty after all. Does a fan in India, China, or the US care more about the club, its superstar players, or its domestic League?

It takes a quite astonishing level of cnutishness to create a system where EUFA, FIFA and PSG come out of it looking like the good guys.

As someone in the US who has gone to games United played for pre season here (including the famous 110k+ attended game against Real in Michigan) I have zero interest in seeing any of the clubs actual make this international thing a permanent thing- especially for actual league games. One game or so like the NFL does being played in one of the cities is one thing - to make it part of a multiple game rotation just feels wrong - like you strip the clubs identity away like it has no relevance at all.Dont forget Perez already tried this with La Liga.

Ahhh so we’ll be expecting them to change their tune very quickly if they get sufficient rights
