This is sure, the players can become free agent and decide where to play

the contracts automatically terminates when the clubs leaves

London is the biggest city in Europe, so makes sense. same reason why LA and NY have multiple teams in a lot of their sports too.
If we were basing this on population, sure. But this is about football.

If we were talking about a European Super League based on actual football history then there are big name clubs across England, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Scotland and Turkey who haven't made this shortlist who could have lended an air of this being an actual broad ranging European Super League.

Instead it's just the three London clubs, the other three richest UK clubs and a few wealthy foreign clubs proclaiming themselves the elite of football based on what they're worth.

This sort of attitude fecking stinks. If you're obsessed with glossy names and soulless headlines go and follow American sports.
What I'm trying to say is, UEFA nor FIFA doesn't have the high ground here, they themselves are corrupted. If they want to ban the players, clubs, they will also suffer as much.

Right now what I'm seeing is my beloved club is seen as the villain because of the media overreaction and propaganda, I don't like that. Football has always been about the elite clubs and the best players after all.

Premier League is famous worldwide because of the club and the players they can bring in, not solely because of the league.

I think this is beyond naive. The reality is those 6 clubs hold all the cards and have for a long time which has only continued to grow. UEFA and the FA have done nothing to stop it while they were getting a slice. Do you seriously believe Everton or Leicester will be able to grow to the size they can fill that gap? The Premier League is a great product because of the top teams in it.
Literally 3 of the 6 weren't anything more than an average Everton 20 years ago. 1 of those that was more is essentiall only Evertons level now (plus big fanbase). United and Liverpool sure, but the rest?

But what could they do?

These clubs aren't refusing to play the domestic leagues, they're essentially only saying they'll play a different continental league than the one UEFA is organizing
Who owns the rules?
Who owns the rights for the name of a footballing entity bearing the city's name?
Is this Basketball or Packer's Cricket?

We are the villain. Well correction, the owners are. It's not propaganda, Man Utd are one of the main players in making this happen.

Chairman of Danish FA and member of UEFA executive committee Jesper Møller expects that the 12 clubs will be expelled on friday.

Jesper Møller says that an extraordinary executive committee meeting is being held friday and Jesper Møller expects that the 12 clubs will be expelled.

"... Then you must see how you finish the Champions League"

Furthermore UEFA will give the players' the choice of staying at the current club or terminate their contracts.

"I believe that the contracts automatically terminates when the clubs leaves. Then the players are free to chose to play in a club that's part of solidarity and community - our pyramidesystem"
Ya right you bumbling fools. Couldn't ban just 1 club for 1 season for breaking rules YOU set in YOUR competition but yeah, will ban 12 clubs and players in it.

Battle of stupid twats vs intelligent/semi-intelligent twats. Beautiful game fecked up in middle.

Easy here tiger, all the German clubs have the fans with the key vote so that´s that for them and PSG has an owner high up in the UEFA hierarchy and their TV station owns the right to CL TV broadcast in Asia plus they are deep into the scandal that the WC in QATAR is, so that´s a bit over simplified.
Porto are the only club who deserves any plaudit here.
Mönchengladbach has come out with the same anti-ESL statement as well. I'm not really fuzzed on why at this point, I just want clubs to publicly denounce the intiative.

That's the thing.

Assuming we're able to compete in the Premier League alongside this, as soon as you can't win the damn thing, what's the point in playing your hardest if nothing that bad can really happen? Also, I'm going to care much more about beating Liverpool in the Premier League than I am about beating them in this tinpot nonsense.

It is literally a glorified Emirates Cup.
So why does Burnley fans still watch the premier league then if they can never win the thing?

Basically people seem to think 12 of the biggest clubs in football can just be destroyed.
I think these 12 can do what they like and create their own organisation and league or whatever, but then don’t expect to be allowed or invited to play in other organisation tournaments. Stick to your own. As another poster suggested, they’d create their own break way leagues and international tournaments. feck them.

It is all about power. The UEFA controlles European football and they showed how corrupt they are. Now 12 clubs feel powerful enough to attack the UEFA for power, influence and money. What's the problem? They both do not care about football, they care about money....
What’s the problem? Sigh. Look at what happened with brexit or even trump. You fix things by being inside them not taking your ball and going to create a small competition where you play each other endlessly

Yes and in that 20 years the FA and UEFA have done nothing to stop corruption from spreading into the game. By letting clubs get bought out under these owners the FA sold their soul and their power alongside it.

Which top players are going to leave their clubs? You think they'll be taking the moral high ground and earn a fraction of what they'll currently earn, and also put their future financial health at risk? Some players play for countries which will never be more than cannon fodder in international tournaments (Zlatan) or don't even make their squads (Martial). These players aren't going to be going anywhere for fear of losing their fat contracts.

Not sure Boris's opinions make much difference, though. These lot know what they're doing. They've probably had the best legal advice and all that jazz.

He he he.

It's the we're built. We forget and move on.
yep.

i can understand the backlash but it will die down and like you say, life will continue. people aren’t rioting in the streets when they’re the ones actually getting shafted by billionaires, expecting them to do it now for their football club is nonsensical.

Be interesting to see what happens with this. This is a open goal for the UK Govt, they can go hammer and tongs at the clubs and the populace by and large will support them.

You would think everyone involved with this project knew there would be strong backlash, so i dont just see them backing off like that.

After all, why would they care if UEFA bans them EL/CL, or even getting banned from the domestic league, considering just how much more money there is in this super league? The clubs they are representing will be set for years/decades to come!
Say the clubs get kicked out or banned and then they all form this super league. Transfers wont be able to happen anymore between the Super League and anywhere else as the federations wont ratify the transfers.

City were able to grow by piggy backing onto the success of the league and the other big clubs within it. They are also backed by a nation state which is hardly replicable. Why would other owners come in and do the same if all the best teams had left the premier league? It's naive to think this wouldn't suck all the money out the league.

Thats because we are the villain and are being instrumental in breaking up European football.
Propaganda ?
You are very much in the minority supporting this, very much.

I have supported United my entire life and could easily wash my hands of them and walk away if this happens. I have gone to games for over 25 years but it isn't the club I grew up with. They could be called anything after this.

I'd still watch FA cup, Carling cup..Europa league final..whatever there is to consume.
The modern human, a soulless mindless automaton. Programmed to consume products brought to you by huge empty corporations who care nothing for human rights violations and only their bottom end.

It's cnuts like you that have given these owners the impetus to push for a ESL.

You'd consume Arsenic if Amazon were fecking promoting it.

I have a silly question: Can the league retro-actively declare that owners of a premier league club don't pass the "Fit and Proper" test anymore and have to therefore sell the club?

Yeah, because holding out for a few dollars today only to get completely fecked over a couple of years down the line is such a great idea.
The 14 teams presumably depend massively on the revenue and TV money from the PL. The ESL has massively devalued all of it. It could be a case of protecting the financial security of the teams (Especially after Covid) rather than just a few dollars..
