How should the breakaway clubs be dealt with now?

I dont know force them to sell or have government do something. But points deduction isn't the answer
But sell to whom? It's not that simple. Who can afford billions in Covid times? In any case let them just get on with it.
I shudder at this government getting involved too heavily. Will give that one a pass.

And yes, I agree with no points deduction. The players and coaches weren't a part of it and should not be punished at all.

Why should the fans, players and staff who have no involvement in this be punished?
UEFA don’t consider the impact on fans and players when applying fines or bans for transfer irregularities so while it’s definitely down to crooked owners they could still take action against the club.

It's mugs on here begging for it I'm asking. Many of those asking for it is due to their own selfish agenda.

It's just an insane statement. I don't think there will be punishments, but it's not, because you can't punish unless every single entity involved with the club or even just supporting them is personally responsible for the misdeeds. :houllier:

We're in a lucky position in that all our big rivals are guilty too, so I'd be fine with whatever punishment got handed down.

All of us missing out on the CL next year would be irony or some shit.
That'd make for a quite fun season of the CL. Until Bayern and PSG roll over everybody else.

I don't think anything will be done to punish the clubs per se, since nothing was actually done except for a very naughty announcement.

However, there will be new rules and measures to make sure this does not happen again.

No CL or EL next season for them
Which will solidify the foundation of the SL.

It may not happen today but it will sure happen tomorrow. The idea is out there. No way it'll be thrown out the window now. It's back to the drawing board for Perez and the rest. You can bet your house they will come back with this plan on steroids.

Well part of the issues within the PL is the money and the even split from TV.
That's not an issue. It's a positive.

It was also compromised on last year, in response to these threats from the big 6, so that any increase on the previous deal was distributed in favour of the bigger clubs.

Why should there be any punishment for something that never happened, ultimately? Considering that morally, Sky, UEFA and FIFA et al have no leg to stand on in this issue, perhaps it's best if they all go to the negotiating table.

You argued the PL wasn't fair and had always done what the bigger clubs wanted.. they haven't. As above.

Those who are calling for docked points, think about young players like Greenwood, Mctominay, Rashford (especially all the good he's done off the pitch). They'd be heartbroken if they were punished.

Think about Pogba and Shaws resurgence, Bruno showing he's the best about. 9 come backs from losing positions. Beating City. I could go on. Why would you want all that to be worth feck all because we have greedy owners.

Regardless of all of the big talk from UEFA and threats of bans it was already being reported that they were arranging a line of credit to offer financial inducements to the big clubs. Chelsea and Man City will claim they did it for the right reasons but I guarantee you the clubs have been talking to UEFA for the last 48 hours and money has been offered to back out. When you are the super rich even when you lose you win.

The Premier League was established to give more power and money to the top division, at the expense of the lower league teams. TV money was skewed by Sky to the new Premier League and this was accentuated by things like no longer splitting gate receipts fifty-fifty. It remains a far more equitable division of the TV contracts than exists in Spain, for example, which is a positive. The changes to UEFA competitions, such as the creation of the Champions League and the constant changes to it, have been done entirely to benefit the richest and most powerful. The proposed Super League was designed to make this situation far more extreme.

Yes. Yet you have Everton fans like @SilentWitness demanding severe punishment to United when his own club was instrumental in the PL formation.

You keep making this about Everton. I don't care about Everton in this situation. If Everton were involved in this Super League I'd be saying exactly the same. As I have said, I'm a fan of football and then of Everton. I take far more pleasure now from watching a lower league game with my pals than watching Everton on tv. The ESL was an even further step away from helping lower division football and strengthening the clubs at the top. The PL and FA needs a major restructure and reform aside from this debacle, but the ESL was nothing but power hungry parasites wanting more money and there is no way that they should get away with that. I don't think taking a bit of the PL Tv money away from United and distributing it more throughout the pyramid is severe either. Severe is relegation/complete removal of tv money.

So what about your clubs involvement in the PL formation?

Just admit it. You, and many others, will be demanding unrealistic punishments to the teams involved as it potentially benefits your own team.

The two situations aren't the same. The Premier League was created after consultation and a vote, whereas this ESL was a total secret, even to players and managers. There's no point re-hashing the founding of the Premier League at this point. We need to make sure we all - together - use this moment for the good of the game. These corrupt and greedy foreign owners need to go. Football clubs can't be bought and sold like junk at a car boot sale. We need filth like the Glazers out of our game and replaced by democratic fan controlled entities.

1. I wasn't even born when the PL formation happened so it doesn't impact me as much as this does. 2. Football is a business and a sport so you have to understand that there is an element of business behind the football on the pitch. 3. The ESL did not contain this balance between business and sport. It only concerned the financial benefits. The PL for as rotten as it is still contains the foundations of what makes sport brilliant which is the jeopardy of promotion/relegation/qualification and winning with purpose. The PL has been paramount in supporting and making grassroots football thrive in this country, pumping not only money into the footballing pyramid but passion. The ESL is so far removed from all of that.

I'm done responding to you now as you only read what you want to read and don't actually listen to people.

I'm angry with some of the fans of other clubs if I'm honest.

We didn't want the Glazers. We protested and begged the FA to step in. They allowed it and they've saddled us with debt. Oppo fans didn't back United they laughed and found it amusing. They became enablers. They helped create these monsters.

People only give a shit when it might impact on them. That's got to change. @SilentWitness

I've listened to you ranting on about how you want my club punished. So much so it's quite obvious for your own gain. I find that insulting.

Very selfish way of thinking. There's obviously problem with the money involved in football and the same culprits will come back with a stronger plan that is more likeable by the fans.

It’s a good moment to force the Glazers to sell. At the moment it’s their club. They run it and they can do whatever they want.It won’t happen ever, but if a severe punishment is introduced it might help get rid of them.

But regardless of looking at it from United and fans point of view such actions should not get unpunished. It was a sleazy way to make the rich richer and fill their pockets. Goes against anything this game is about.

United were the architects in this alongside Real, does that make you proud? It’s much bigger than the players and last time I checked they are still at helm and what would stop them from pulling another stint like that after couple of years?

On another note, I've always had a lot of time for Everton as a great, traditional clubs who also hate Liverpool  . The United - Liverpool mutual loathing is interesting, given the two cities supposedly share many values. I always enjoy visiting Liverpool and get along great with the people; it's only when the subject turns to football with the red half that things get tricky.

I watch Toffee TV regularly and think it's one of the best fan channels around. Baz and Ped on there seem like really good guys.

No. I argued that Masters and Premier League have pandered to these clubs out of fear that they would walk. They have. As above.

Not much can be done legally I would think. The only thing that can be done and UEFA/PL are experts at is assigning shit refs or fixing draws for a year or so and then forget it all.

Chelsea deserve credit. They were not antagonisers and made the move that made it cave.
Chelsea were instrumental in getting to the stage - first plastic club, inflated fees and wages, made money the most important thing. Then City followed, and made things 10 times worse. They should both be relegated

Yeah, I'm concerned about our players so I'm selfish. Good call.

Ban the execs involved from all football activity.

As much as I’d be happy to see the 6 clubs deducted points or whatever as punishment, it’s a bit harsh on the players and managers.

Anything OTT and the clubs will feel they have no choice but to actually set up their own competition.
