Possible back-up striker if Cavani leaves?

He reminds of Kane in his play style but obviously not as good. Aerially he’s strong and a solid finisher. Would offer us something different.

Don’t think he would cost too much either.

EDIT: He’s scored a second as I write this.

Yeah I think he's one of most underrated strikers in premier league. Hits double figures most season.

Surprised Spurs haven't gone for him as a Kane back up.

Yeah he’d suit Spurs pretty well too.

He’s definitely underrated but not surprised people are laughing. People just see he plays for Burnley and immediately dismiss.

He wouldn't be a bad back up, we're in need for some presence upfront if Cavani goes but it depends on price as Burnley would be asking for cir £25-30m if they stayed up in the PL.

I'd prioritise majority of the transfer funds on CB, winger that can play both sides of the pitch and CM as opposed to spending most of our budget on a striker i.e. Haaland.

Even away from his actual ability on the field (which goes without actually analysing, really) is the logistics of financing the deal. The year isn’t 2008. You can’t sign good level squad options from the PL for cut prices anymore. Burnley would ask for a fee that is simply not proportionate to his level. We have far bigger priorities to plug than to sign Chris Wood for a relatively large sum of money.

Is he better than Martial? Is Martial good enough to play up front for us? There's your answer.

Scored at least 10 goals in the PL the past 3 seasons and only one goal off doing it again this time.
Probably deserves a chance at a higher level. Definitely underrated due to who he plays for.

Both would be good back-ups imo but no not good enough to start every week. This season has been a bit of a write off for Martial anyway.

He's a good player... Probably your best "Big man up top" alternative option in the league.

However he's worth at least £25-£30m to Burnley through his goals... And you don't pay that for a back up.

Imagine the OT crowd missing out on seeing one of Europe's recent best forwards in Cavani to then coming back into the ground to watch Chris Wood's as his replacement.

Better than he'll be given credit for, but not the style of player that people will be excited about.

Doubt he'd get that many goals playing the same amount as Cavani also. 10 from 28 games in the league including today and twice as many mins as Cavani in the league with his 8 goals

It would likely be a similar fee to what Newcastle signed Wilson for, think that was around 20m.

Just checked and he's got two years left on his deal so he won't be in a hurry to sign again as coming up to 30 this is last chance for a big move, same for Ings at Southampton who is stalling.

I think he’s probably worth more to Burnley than we’d be willing to pay. If we’re shopping in the lower half I’d rather go for Ings.

Such a dismissive view. Cavani is obviously the better player but Wood has more goals this season and guarantees at least double figures every season.

Good player, but not fancy enough name for The Caf, i'm afraid ;)
