Martial doesn't quite fit into Burnley's colour palette.

I had a feeling there would be a thread like this after his performance today. He fits Burnley perfectly. A good, old fashioned centre forward. He would be great for us too if we played like Burnley. But we don't, nor should we.

He screams of one of those signings that folds under the bright lights of a bigger club.

A Spurs/old Liverpool signing of I ever saw one.

Chris Wood? I’m not sure Edward Woodward would.

How much wood would a Chris Wood cut if a Chris wood could cut wood?

Standards have dropped. There are threads discussing whether Cavani is good enough, there were threads doubting Ibrahimovic and criticising his finishing, Martial is slated, Lukaku is hated.

The same forum: let’s sign Chris Wood.

It’s almost like a forum is a collection of varied opinions rather than a single consciousness. Weird.

This forum: Why can't we ever sign hidden talents on the cheap!!?!?!

Also this forum: Our standards have dropped if we are not looking to superstar signings.

He was very good against us. Admittedly he is probably the type to do well against our defence but he still had to give us a difficult afternoon. Very strong, holds onto the ball. He's not quick but when has Martials pace really helped us in that position - a couple of particular games a season at best. We'd probably trade that for aerial ability and an outlet.

It's not the worst suggestion, I think it might have to be realised that we ain't getting a superstar name if they're not available and affordable, the financial situation is not good. If you're looking for somebody to come in now and then like Cavani, we could do worse. Someone like Wood or Ings do not get the pulse racing but it may just be a question of signing a proper 9 that can tide us over until the situation is better.

I've not seen enough of Burnley as why would anybody want to so I don't know if he's an option but the point is it may be an unheralded signing that makes sense.

If we played Wood yesterday, we wood've won.

We'd also have had 12 players which wood've given us a huge advantage.

For a team often struggling against teams that sit back it would not be bad to have one of 4 strikers in the squad being able to get on the end of crosses and to bully defenders....apart from Cavani who seems to be leaving we hardly have anyone that can do that role....Wood and Mitrovic are examples of those kind of strikers. Hopefully Kane or Haland can be purchased though I find it unlikely...Martial, Rashford and Greenwood hardly realish the physical fight and we are constantly finding it hard to open us low block teams

Do you think Chris Wood falls into the “hidden talent” category? Do you think he would be cheap? Do you think we couldn’t sign him if we really wanted to?

Now Cavani has confirmed we'd have no need but I think he could do a good job for Spurs or Arsenal.

He's a good player... Probably your best "Big man up top" alternative option in the league.

However he's worth at least £25-£30m to Burnley through his goals... And you don't pay that for a back up.
We’ve been crying out for a “big man up top alternative option” for ages. Pains me to see how few strikers we have in our squad compared to Fergie’s stockpiling back in the day. Probably shouldn’t spend a ton of money on this dude but would improve us a hell of a lot if he magically appeared in our squad tomorrow.

A couple more and he’s scored more than Rashford and Martial combined in the league this season.

Have we though?

We just had a fiesta of Zlatan, Lukaku and to some extent Fellaini. We're not going to look back at these years as our finest.

Both seasons generally referred to as our two best (PL era) we had an average height below 1.80 among our forwards.

I'm sure the Caf loves this idea until they have to actually watch him play for a few months and realize he can't move with the ball or pass it more than two yards in the exact direction he's already facing. Nothing against the guy, he's a solid PL striker (especially for Burnley's style of play where they launch the ball forward as soon as they get it and hope one of their two forwards wins the header) but fecking hell he's a terrible fit for anything other than a prayer to throw on in the last 10 minutes when lumping the ball into the box. He also went about 2 months without scoring earlier in the season despite starting almost every game and regularly spooning sitters. I know this because I drafted him in my FPL league and the bloke had me tearing my hair out.

Think this recent purple patch has fooled a few people, the dropoff from Cavani to Wood as our 'backup' would be unbelievable. The only thing that would work in his favor at a top club would probably be just the sheer increase in quality of the chances he'd get.

Think Wood would break his leg if he tried this pass by Cavani

We’d probably have half a dozen more points this season if we had a player like Zlatan, Lukaku or Fellaini on the bench. Not saying we need someone like that to be starting every game but they’re a great option to have when you’re chasing the game. It’s bugging me so much I’ve even been casting envious glances in Giroud’s direction. And he’s shite!
