I think it's hilarious how he just keeps going year after year, accepting poor cars and basically not giving a shit about anything. :)
Yes. And driving average cars really quickly. He is what he is. A very good F1 driver.

WTF is this, why change it when it does not need changing, FRIDAY qualifying is just stuipd, most will be at work and wont even see it !!
eh

How/why are they having fp2 in between qualy and sprint

Practice is largely for car set up on the track no?

Usually in park ferme conditions after qualie for the race

Hamilton is a poor loser, no doubting his talent even though the Merc has been in a league of it's own for many years now. I think he lacks the charisma to be the people's champion.
Schumacher was hardly a charismatic chap either

Cant say Prost was... and Vettel whilst having some personality was burdened with that being the personality of an utter twunt

Ive not sen enough of fangio to say but it was such a different era its perhaps not a relavant example anyway, however, based on the recent evidence being a charismatic champion of the people seems to be rather detrimental to being a multi time f1 world champion (where who'd a thunk it but being simgle minded and focussed and caring more about winning that anything else seems to kinda help)

They'll do a first practice to setup for qualfying, then a 2nd practice to setup for the Sprint race / Feature Race.

There’s parc ferme after qualifying on the Friday apparently, so they won’t be able to make changes to the car after that.

I think it’s more to do with being able to do a long run sims in FP2 ahead of the race on Sunday, with the track ‘closer’ to what it will be on Sunday. The teams will be too preoccupied with getting the car setup correctly for the entire weekend in FP1 to be bothered with tyre deg data & long race strategy.

It is weird though. You’d think you’d have FP1/2 on Friday when less people can watch, Quali Saturday morning, Sprint Saturday afternoon and feature race on Sunday.

The cynical part of me thinks they’ve stuck Quali on Friday to boost Friday ticket sales…

That doesn't really make any sense, unless they're just going to set the cars up for race conditions and then do qualy?

I can understand parc ferme after the sprint race but not before. Anyway, we will see as I think it's all still open for changes.

That's what they have to do currently, which is why it's a bit strange that there's a practice session after quali

just seen a video that confirms setup changes will be allowed after qualifying. only after the sprint race will full parc ferme come into effect

hmm guess that kind of make sense, if sprint is kind of quali for the race

Just seems like if guys can set up for sprint quali and get themselves in pole it might via that then staying there in sprint race, might take a bit away.

Thought the whole point of parc ferme after quali was so teams had to make a decision on set up - go for a better race set up or one that gives you a better chance at grid position. Seems a bit counter intuitive but see what happens

Honestly I don't see it being that popular, I think they'll change it after a while. It's not going to be exciting if Merc/red bull just romp away in the lead every time like the normal race.

I wish they did points for qualifying, then started reverse grid from that result. Have the fastest cars storm through the pack and encourage over taking, but also give the slower cars a chance to win something.

As long as they still give the main point hand out for the Sunday race which they can start with from with the qualy result, everybody should be happy.

A reverse grid for the sprint would be so much better but will never get past Mercedes.

Its just another gimmick, with Ecclestone's name all over it, just like the stuipd mini race for qualifying they tried for one race a few seasons ago.
The one part of F1 that did not need messing about with is qualifying, it works well as it is !
But lets give it a go, you never know it might actually work.

Makes sense, I guess! Still think that the two practice sessions should be on Friday with the quali, sprint & race over the weekend.

Agree with most others on here that I don’t think it’ll work. Worthwhile giving things a try though, better than them just changing the rules for the entire season and then finding out it’s shit & have to go back again (like that awful knock-out qualifying a few years back).

Not really that keen on artificially creating racing either though. They just need to bunch the cars up a bit (which they’ve managed this year pretty well) and make them much easier to follow without ruining the aero & tyres.

Quite hopeful that Ross Brawn & the rest of them are taking a more structured approach to achieving this than they ever did under Bernie. Would be great in a few years if we have 5/6 teams all capable of wins and podiums regularly. Much easier said than done though.

Don't agree with that Schumacher didn't have charisma. Plus this new car era isn't helping one bit.

You'd hope with the aero rule changes next year that'll happen.

The issue again though is everybody starts from scratch, so the big boys will probably lead the pack again and everybody will take 2/3 years to catch up.

Right now it's the most competitive I can ever remember F1, it's almost a shame they're changing the rules again next year. I think this season could go down in history as one of the most exciting.

I'm not sure it would be artificial, but if they wanted "excitement" then i'm not sure seeing Red bull and Mercedes leap off into the lead and the rest trying to catch up will be. Making the likes of Hamilton/Verstappen weave through the pack to the front would.

I'm not sure if you're a BTCC fan, but seeing the likes of Ash Sutton start near the back and get to the front with 1/2 laps to spare is very exciting.

Untidy from Max again and Bottas goes on pole.

Wonder if Bottas will bottle it on the first corner, or leave it for a lap or two

Hammy gave that away to Bottas on the first run, the mediums clearly didn’t fire up on the second runs. Still suspect the wet lettuce will get gobbled up tomorrow.

No worries
Bottas leads a Mercedes 1-2. Boy did he need that. In the end Red Bull weren't that close, albeit in tricky conditions.

They kind of were though, if Max didn’t go wide on his first run he’s on pole right now.

all of Bottas, Hamilton, Verstappen, Perez and Leclerc are starting on mediums tomorrow but Sainz in 5th is on softs. It will be interesting tomorrow.

Well no, he'd have been considerably slower if he hadn't cheated.
If anything I would say hoing slightly off made him slower. Don't think theres much in the cars. Just depends on the wind when you do your timed lap. Looks like it can swing you half a second if you get bad wind conditions on your flying lap. Bottas only car to go faster in q3 just shows you.

Max looked so disappointed after the qualifying. Could have made pole if it weren't for that mistake in turn 4. Still think it will be either him or Lewis finishing P1.

Shocker from Ric and Alonso there. At least Vettel made it to Q3 today.

yes, he lost time when he went wide.
