I see that bastion of probity, Sam Allardyce, thinks the "Big Six" should be punished ( of course ). WBA to be saved from relegation has nothing to do with that, of course).
Possibly the only thing good about the ESL was that surely Fat Sam and Warnock would never have gotten jobs.

Peter Lim is a business man. He doesn't need to pour money into Salford United to make money. He could have put his money in other things just as you say in restaurants or hotels. But he could also have put that money in resorts in places like Maldives where he is guaranteed a better return on his investment.
So putting money into Salford is not to make money for sure.
Many people would be better off investing in index funds but they choose penny stocks for the potential of 1000% growth.

Of course Peter Lim is in it for the money. He might have a much more long term view on it.

I remember some investor buying Swansea a long time ago. His stake increased immensely in value when they became a PL-level club.

This narrative that Neville/Carragher were saying what they said because they work for Sky has to be the worst hot take of the last crazy 48 hours.

The ESL would replace the CL, which BT have the rights for until 2024. So it actually created an opportunity for Sky to have a bigger slice of the football pie. It was also intended to run in parallel with the Premier League, so Neville and Carragher’s jobs were secure regardless.

Seeing as the vast majority of football fans (plus players and managers) were appalled by this proposal the idea that Neville only felt/said what he did because he was trying to impress his employer makes no sense at all.
This is an important post

Because of the timing of the announcement Gary Neville, on co-commentary duty was among the very first to react to it. His accurate analysis and his very strong and articulate condemnation of the proposal set the tone for just about everyone who responded after him. He deserves credit for seeing it for what it was and for calling it out straight away. It shouldn't be forgotten.

I agree. I had grown tired of him talking about the team previous to this all, this has earned him an entirely new level of respect.

Kudos to Neville in my books, He spoke passionately against it & I believe it came from the heart & not his pocket. We will never agree totally with any pundit regardless & that is just fine but for the most part Neville is usually spot on.

Gary really doesn't strike me as a person who is afraid to speak his mind. Everyone at United who worked out played with him have said as much. He would have been on the Super League's side of he had felt it was the right thing.

Only thing I have been pissed off with him about us the lack of noise sooner.
But that's it. I truly felt in Sunday he was speaking his mind not something rehearsed.

He's putting too much emphasis on these protests being about the ESL. Even Carragher knows it's far deeper than that.

Say what is wrong? The owners of the “elite” clubs seeking out more power and more revenue? If so, I’m a Socialist. I fundamentally disagree with the concentration of power and wealth in the hands of an elite few. But is it “wrong” that in a capitalist system, the bigger, badder capitalists continue to eat the smaller, weaker capitalists? Football should be a level playing field for all. We should have had salary caps, limits on transfer spending, fan ownership of clubs, home grown player rules, limits on how many players a club can own etc...but we don’t. The PL and UEFA and even Sky could have reformed the game but they didn’t. They let it become sick and refused to treat the disease.

My point (a view shared by many others) is that it’s sickening watching Sky and the PL suddenly start preaching to us who have argued for a fairer system for fans and clubs for years. They have exploited us to the point many couldn’t take it any more and walked away. Now they want our help because some bigger, badder wolf is threatening to blow THEIR house down? This club knows better than any the dangers of foreign ownership. There’s 100,000 messages on this forum to that effect.

I don’t understand your point about Keane and Neville’s wealth. I have never mentioned their wealth at all. I have continuously referenced the fact I would perhaps have more respect for their opinions if they were honest enough to point out their employers created this mess in the first place.

The point you seem to be failing to see is that I agree with the principle of what Neville and the rest are saying but why were they saying it now and not in 2003 when Roman bought Chelsea or in 2005 when the Glazers bought Utd or in 2009 when Sheikh Mansour bought City and on and on and on...? I’m not having Sky setting the narrative of them somehow being the fan’s champion. This should be a fan movement. I’ll get behind that 100%. I’m not getting behind anything Sky say or do because they go against everything I stand for and as far as I am concerned this is all of their chickens coming home to roost.
Great post. Totally agree.

It looks calculated. It's how he thinks he can gather support in the wider football community to get the Glazers out of United (through legislation that impacts all owners).

If he focuses only on the cash drain of the club, no one will care outside of the fans.

He knows the issues with Glazer ownership of United better than most of us, and he may also be on the line speaking to other ex players on getting them in on the act.

When he listed the 4 reasons FSG were bad for - the face of Carragher. He was absolutely raging, I couldn’t take my eyes of of him. Raging.

I mainly enjoyed when he brought up the Souness flag incident. Strange how Souness had no response to that

I do admire Neville for having the guts to actually have an opinion and set of principles, and Carragher as well to be fair much as I disliked him as a player. Though with Neville it definitely gets to a point where they need to just install an off switch. Or set up another camera/mic for him to carry on ranting into for another 3 hours that doesn't actually broadcast to anywhere. Once he's repeating the same thing for the 5th time just move him to the side so he can get it out of his system.

Brilliant Gary. Good by Keano and Carragher today too. #GlazersOut
