He's good for about 10 league goals per season. Last season he overperformed, this season he underperformed. But averaging it out, it still comes to about 10.

2015/16 - 11
2016/17 - 4
2017/18 - 9
2018/19 - 10
2019/20 - 17
2020/21 - 4
2 or 3 of them seasons he wasn't first choice so stop with the bashing, some of you do my head in with the way you are so quick to put him down.

Just because you have shiny new toy in greenwood who has to be one of the most selfish player I have ever seen,I call him shoot on site,in difficult game martial Is the only one who is team oriented even if he is not having the best of time.

Yes martial hasn't been good this season but to always put him down at every occasion even when he isn't playing is criminal as if some of you are happy he isn't doing well.

If he was in last seasons form, we might have gone toe to toe with city in the title race.

I still can’t figure out the reason for this downturn in form.

And I can’t believe that Joel glazer called him United’s Pele.

how about this? We can take Benzema off your hands and we will give you 50 million plus martial.

He’s United’s 1980’s era Pele.

Put martial at vinicious place and he will score bucket loads of goals because he won't miss the chances the runner from brazil does.

His fine form came when opposition teams hadn't adapted to Bruno Fernandes in my opinion.

Bruno had just signed after the covid break and we were counter attacking in to space all the time with players like Martial and Greenwood scoring with freedom.

Clubs found that we cant be messed around with creative players like Bruno, Pogba, and attackers like Rashford, Greenwood and even Martial - so theh sat down in a low block to arguably only ever counter attack us.

This made both Martial and Greenwood struggle this season. Martial is a striker who plays deep off the defender before taking them on rather than make swift moves that help him get behind the defender like Cavani does. Likewise Greenwood has had to improve his dribbling abilities and overall gameplay to make more of an impact against low block teams- something we have seen come to fruition in the last month.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

Martial was only a squad player for most of those years to be fair, and in two of them (17/18 and 18/19) he was being treated harshly by the manager as he should have been first choice if we based it on performances. He was also out on the left for most of them, so getting 9 or 10 league goals a season as a squad wide player is actually quite decent.

This season has obviously been a horror one for him, but I wouldn't say he overperformed last season. It's about where you'd expect him to be when moving into a first choice striker role. I would hope that he'll get back to that level again next season, although unfortunately he's been so poor this season that we can't go into it without having somebody who can potentially push past him as first choice (or start at first choice and make Martial try to win a spot). Whether that is Cavani I'm not sure, considering his injuries, quiet games of his own, and rumours he doesn't want to stay.

If he showed up this season we would have won the league in my opinion. Such a shame, I think we should sign a new number 9 and if that means he leaves then so be it

Having options is always a good thing, always seemed odd that Ole ruled him out for the rest of the season with a sprain

It's always nice to have options but we've not exactly missed him, which I think is quite damning.
Yeah thats spot on really.

When I saw the Roma team and bench, I thought "Hey, we've got our first team out and everyone fit"... took me a while to remember.

Maybe he's the king of wishful thinking.

If this guy had shown up this season, we would have been in the title race still.

Hope he has sorted whatever issues he has and has a strong finish to this season.

Couldn't care less.

Last few games not once did anybody think, "shit, i wish Tony was fit we could really use him up front".

Just hope he stays fit enough to get sold for a decent amount.

Had forgotten all about him. And apparently I'm not the only one. Says it all. Too weak-minded. Any hint of competition, and he boils off.

I hope he comes back and proves the doubters wrong. He’s still one of the best players at the club at his best and does have the ability to play for a top side. What a shocking season he’s had though. I suspect he will get one more make or break season here.

He's got a challenge ahead of him. I'll be interested to see how he responds.

Hopefully the injury has given him time to freshen up and get his act together

I have pretty much given up after the promise of last season though.

He’ll find it hard to break through into the team before end of the season.

I half hope he gets sold because I can’t see him being happy with being a bench player next season - unfortunately though, I can’t see anything more than that. I prefer Greenwood, Cavani and Rashford over him.

As a comparison, we signed Telles to provide competition to Shaw.
Cavani to be "backup" to Martial.

The difference between the reactions of the two players couldn't be more light and day.

Our performances and results have improved considerably since Martial's been unavailable for selection. I truly hope Ole selects his forwards on merit and doesn't put Martial straight back into the team.

Martial has the talent, but the mentality is not there.

It's sad to say but the fact is we haven't missed Martial one bit since he got injured.

Cavani and Greenwood have both hit form in the last 5 or 6 weeks and we look so much better going forward.

Maybe Martial can play some of the dead rubbers we have coming up in the league and we can rest Cavani or Rashford, but he should be absolutely nowhere near the 11 for the Europa League final. His performances this year have been atrocious and he doesn't deserve to play in the final.

Shaw's performances this season are also a reminder not to write a player off that we know has the ability. Cavani has only come good for us in the last month.

Love the way we get news of one of our players coming back from injury earlier than expected and half the posts are slagging him off. He'll have to show great character to get back into the team now but I really hope he does.

And we defo dont lose the home game vs PSG with the chances he missed at 1-1 (and probably progress to last 16)

Hopefully he gains some form, goes to the Euros and comes back stronger next season.
Yes we haven’t missed him in the last few games, but let’s not forget games not that long ago when Pogba and Cavani were injured. Our bench then only had Amad and Shola as attacking options! And James was already on the pitch.
We need 7-8 strong attacking players to rotate between the 4-5 attacking positions.
Rashford/Greenwood/Bruno/Cavani/Pogba/Martial/Sancho?/(Amad).
It’s also well documented that Cavani can’t start more than 2-3 games in a row anymore if we want to manage him well and minimise the risk of injury.
