Control, Rhythm Nation, Janet and Velvet Rope probably the best consecutive album run in the last 30 years.
Doesn't get her due as much as she should, imo.
Doesn't get her due as much as she should, imo.
And now I can hear it.After the release of "Got 'til It's Gone", British singer Des'ree thought the song was very similar to her own song "Feel So High" from her 1992 album Mind Adventures, and sued Jackson and the producers of the song.
Disagree on the first.Control, Rhythm Nation, Janet and Velvet Rope probably the best consecutive album run in the last 30 years.

That's the thing. The whole military-rigid single dancer in front of the diamond formation of backup dancers routine was pioneered by Michael. Janet got that from his influence on her and very likely Britney drew from Janet in that regard, for sure.Disagree on the first.
Agree on the second.
Also it's clear that she was the inspiration for Britney, not Madonna - not even close.
Finally, Justin Timberlake is a cnut.
Loved me some Des’ree back in the day. That's really hurtful. Now why you wanna go and do that? Never knew about this:
And now I can hear it.
She's done well to forge a career out of Michael's shadow tbf, pretty much every other sibling of artists less successful than Michael, have managed a lot worse than she has. That's the thing. The whole military-rigid single dancer in front of the diamond formation of backup dancers routine was pioneered by Michael. Janet got that from his influence on her and very likely Britney drew from Janet in that regard, for sure.
Perhaps, but FutureSex/LoveSounds is still a great album all the same.
All of the above artists didn't have classic four-album runs. They had great albums in-between good albums. Janet had four straight albums with critical acclaim. Also, everyone knows Mariah, Whitney, Shania, and Celine all had better four-album runs.
Really? Why bro?
One of the worst things I've ever heard
I just remembered why I don't read the hip hop threads on here anymore.Really? Why bro?
I think it's one of her best songs ever. Janet slow singing over a Joni Mitchell hook with rapping from Mos-Def.
What have I done? Should I have said Yasiin Bey?I just remembered why I don't read the hip hop threads on here anymore.

OMG....What have I done? Should I have said Yasiin Bey?
it's all good, the rest of your post was on point, it's probably my favourite song by her.OMG....
I'm fasting Villain! My head is not working!
I don't know why I say mos-def
Q-tip.
First of all, just teasing. All of the above artists didn't have classic four-album runs. They had great albums in-between good albums. Janet had four straight albums with critical acclaim.
I mean, are you really including Butterfly by Mariah? I had that album. Enjoyable, but not close to Emotions, or Daydream, for example.
Do you want me to call the doctor?Control, Rhythm Nation, Janet and Velvet Rope probably the best consecutive album run in the last 30 years.
Doesn't get her due as much as she should, imo.
Ah it's not so bad I guess, but I'd be a big fan of Joni Mitchell and hearing that remix was a bit jarring - and then the 'Joni Mitchell never lie' part was enough for me.Really? Why bro?

Reminds me of the young singer - I can't remember who - right around the Santanaissance who unironically(?) asked Carlos Santana if he would be in her backing band.Ah it's not so bad I guess, but I'd be a big fan of Joni Mitchell and hearing that remix was a bit jarring - and then the 'Joni Mitchell never lie' part was enough for me.
Bolded. I realise there's going to be some subjective rating here, but from what I recall regarding critical acclaim, those bolded albums received praise for being completely great albums from beginning to end.First of all, just teasing.
But regarding the bolded part: holy mother of god of course not. You know better than that.
Mariah Carey, Emotions, Music Box, (Merry Christmas), and Daydream.
Whitney Houston, Whitney, I'm Your Baby Tonight, and I personally think My Love is Your Love misses out but it sold quite well.
Celine Dion, Colour of My Love, and then the two mega ones.
Shania Twain, Woman in Me, Come on Over and then Up!
Now I'm kind of curious which ones stand out as the great ones for you though.
If the doctor is Janet, then yes.Do you want me to call the doctor?
I totally see where you're coming from.Bolded. I realise there's going to be some subjective rating here, but from what I recall regarding critical acclaim, those bolded albums received praise for being completely great albums from beginning to end.
Agreed. She made her own lane which was fecking difficult. Underrated artist who should be up there with the Mariah’s, Whitney’s etcWhat I love about Janet was all the hard work and effort she put into those classic albums, and videos and tours. In between them she would vanish. There would be the rare paparazzi photo here and there but when it was time to release an album she would be in touring shape and they were full on complete albums not only a single here and there.
A sibling emerging from a Michael Jackson shadow should have been impossible. But, she had the talent and creativity and drive to make it happen. The other siblings all tried here and there and never got anywhere. She deserves to have her legacy about more than the Superbowl mistake. She was never a stunt queen and she was absolutely shunned for that one mistake while Justin just walked on by.
wait you've listened to four Shania Twain albums? Also, everyone knows Mariah, Whitney, Shania, and Celine all had better four-album runs.
I have.wait you've listened to four Shania Twain albums?
What a tune! Along with I Get Lonely...OMG....

I think because the stitching on the bra wasn't very strong. After coming across this thread, I started reading a bit about Janet and after the Superbowl controversy, it seemed like a lot of stations and broadcasters started boycotting her music and not giving her any air time and Disney even removed a statue of her from Disneyland or something like that... yet Justin Timberlake, the one who actually pulled off her bra, gets off without even a slap on the wrist?
How was this allowed to happen?
Sexism largely.

Yeah. And the B.S. with Superbowl also negatively affected his N*Sync band mates promotion too.Sexism largely.
If it wasn't for that incident & getting blacklisted, I think she would be spoken about in the same breath as someone like Madonna, personally.
Timberlake is forever a cnut, not just for this but what he did to Britney too.
