I have a question for those saying Mourinho fits that league to a tee because apparently there is 'a lower tempo and defences stay deep' - when was the last time you've followed a Serie A season??? Back in the 90's???

Serie A is one of the best leagues in terms of goals scored/allowed, gone are the days of catenaccio, matches involving Inter, Atalanta, Sassuolo, Lazio, Milan, Roma, Napoli are full of goals, Serie A is probably in top 3 leagues in terms of average goals per game.

This appointment has one season only written all over it, Mourinho is past it, Roma are dog turd, have an average squad and average funds, they are currently 7th in Serie A and won't finish higher for some time, the other six clubs are way ahead of them and a dinosaur of a manager won't change that.

My guess is he is there to advertise himself for the Inter job once Conte has his meltdown after a draw at the Meazza with no shots on goal by Roma and ten sitters missed by Inter. Probably wanted a top club this summer, but who in his right mind would trust this guy???

Dig up stupid!
Now he can't get a contender he's switched up to prey on the desperate

If I didn't hate him so much I'd respect the hustle

What's all this love in for Roma these days? Not singling out anyone but quite a few people talking about 'our' soft spot for them.

It's because we always beat the heck out of them in Europe?

Finally, he moves back to Italy. He is utterly done as a PL manager.

Roma fans getting crazy for the news

But, they know Mourinho for what he did at Inter, and refuse to talk and think to the rest

Now they will be in ecstasy for some month before the reality check

He'll probably do alright there. He wasn't doing too bad at spurs until he started trying to faff about with tactics that weren't his usual repertoire of "don't let them score".

Jose is like a snowball perched on a precipice - he's just fine until he gets the slightest nudge in the wrong direction, and then it's just a long process of accumulated stress from there.

The general suggestion is that he may have had this in mind as an exit route out of spurs in the summer, and the suggestion of it may have been part of his abrupt exit.

A good move for him. Yes, the finances aren't close to the Premier League but most if not all the big teams are in transition there. I see nothing special about AC Milan, Inter have a couple of good players but quite an ageing mercenary squad, Juve are bloated with all the highly paid free transfer midfielders and struggling with wages. It's an interesting move. Has Campos been hired by any club yet? Jose will likely want him there with him.

Would like to see Faria re-join him.

Pinto has not long joined them, and is one of the factors for Mourinho going there, so I don't expect he will.

Ah, I see. Hired as a General Manager, but was DoF at Benfica with Rui Costa alongside him as a Sporting Director. Interesting.

Serie A hasn't had a CL winner since 2010 and no Italian team has ever won Europa. So, the quality is def lower than it used to be, Italian teams are not competitive. Tempo is lower, high scoring games don't mean they are attacking, pressing teams - other than Atalanta and perhaps Napoli they all play regressive soccer. Inter fckn won the league and their form in Europe was such they didn't even make Europa...

There is a reason why Inter is winning the league in there despite of being knocked out from UCL group stage and still couldn't qualify into Europe League. The level of the league is not better but actually no longer as good as back in the 90's and early 2000. Pedro, Mandzukic, Dzeko, Zlatan, Mkhy are using it as a retirement place now.

Well this escalated quickly... it's seems his reputation will allow him to bounce back and forth between leagues for some years yet.

Ironically he will probably earn more than the most successful managers purely through all the payouts he gets from owners cutting his contracts short. Mental. Saying that I'm not sure if he had a payoff at Spurs, I fully expect he did.

I like Roma so I hope he does well but I just can’t see it happening. It’s not the right fit, I wonder if Napoli would have been better

Yet another club that's gonna suffer public shaming of players, media outbursts, the standard freezing out of 2-3 players and all the other crap that comes from hiring this man. Imagine being dumb enough to hire this man after his recent years. 3 year contract as well... He'll do nothing with Roma and it's not like they have the resources to do anything anyway. He'll be gone after his 1st season and will receive yet another juicy pay out I can put a bet on this I'm that confident.

The worst thing is after he's gone from Roma yet another club will still hire him on a minmum 3 year deal and the same shit will happen again. Clubs are literally hiring him solely based on merits. He knows this which is why he always demands at least 3 years so he can get his payout and feck off to the next club. Absolute genius he is.

Of course he is a fecking genuis. It is all about making money for him to retire. At least he can say that he has won the League in all the countries he has managed and won the CL twice. A lot more than most managers can say.

I would like to heard Mourinho's thoughts on Roma's 'football heritage'.

I'm pretty sure that he won't stay there for 3 years. I'm curious how he will perform but If I had to choose a portuguese coach I would prefer Fonseca above joske anytime. Don't know what happened with Fonseca and the club (players) but i bet that a lot of the players will come to the conclusion that it wasn't that bad under Fonseca in some time.

Just checking in to see if anyone has posted any of these:

No superstars in the team, perfect for Mourinho.

Underdog club that will buy into his philosophy.

Club will give him full control of transfers.

Perfect team for his defensive football.

If Sam Allardyce can keep on getting jobs, I don't see how Mourinho couldn't.

Roma will be perfect place to realize his perfect football philosophy of winning 1-0 at home and drawing 0-0 away for his best case scenario.

I think Jose only highlights the genius that was Alex Ferguson. The ability to re-invent himself and his teams constantly in order to stay successful over several decades.

Difference is Allardyce has achieved the objective he was appointed for at every club bar one (and even with WBA there's signs he would have actually achieved the escape if brought in a couple of months earlier).

Mourinho has spectacularly failed in his objectives the last two jobs and even with us I'd argue the way he left us and cost us KDB/Salah wasn't worth that one title.

That said there's no doubt he'll keep getting jobs, the "born winner" tag will atleast get him another three, especially if he's as good in his interviews as has been reported.

Same people also laughed at Spurs fans saying how we did the same mistake back in 2016 (even when Chelsea fans warned) thinking he is changed and all. So not sure why any ManUtd fan cares about this nonsense about pot kettle black.

I don't even know the point of your posts, all I know is, S is always missing.
 You're a sensitive soul aren't you fella. You could always choose not to reply, you are aware that's an option? Between that and weirdly suspecting the return of previous banned users from a simple pot meet kettle line maybe you need to step back a little :lol:

Maybe you should start a blog if you don't want any replies from other posters. Also do you want me to remind who replied to whose post? That too with irrelevant nonsense. At least if that was somewhere relevant and not usual nonsense, then you can expect proper reply.

It's rich you calling anyone a sensitive soul

You will always be the poster with s missing and your every post just proves that.

Another €15 million when he's sacked in 18 months.

The man is a money-making machine.
77million quid he has pocketed from being paid out early....clubs have more money than sense.

Italy absolutely wetting themselves over this. Genuine belief that he's bringing Roma not only a cup but a Scudetto. Milan fans, Juve fans all chiming in and congratulating us. Quite funny how deluded they all still are by his 2010 season. Don't think they've read the news on him since.

Yeah, good luck with that. :)

I actually think that this job might be just right for him.

A club who has been floundering recently so no real expectations to win anything of note, fans who are sick of their open expansive play and want to tighten it up, a league where there aren't any mega teams to compete against, gives a lot of media / fan interest to Roma, the Italian media also view Mourinho a lot different than the English media and won't purposely try to tear him down the second he drops a player.

On a personal note I hope he does well there so the league isn't as boring as it has been for a long time in regards to title challenges
