Rooney meets Rashford

He wanted to play deeper so he could get on the ball more. He mentioned a game where he scored two goals and after the match he was unhappy because he barely touched the ball.
I find that so weird, the more I think of it, not just statistically, but in a general sense, those were his best seasons. He was a good 10 later on and a great second striker, but him at the 9 was the only time you could make a case of rooney being a top 5 player in the world.

The other irony here is that people act like Fergie forced Rooney out of that no.9 position. The press treated it like that, when in actuality Wayne just wanted to drop deeper.

Some may say he's too injury prone to be paid what he is and Greenwood is a far better striker and finisher but Rashford has been here years now and I only see him getting better as he reaches his peak. Absolute class on the filed.
No point responding to him. It's not even a performance thread, there was no reason for that guys post.

Really enjoyed watching that. Marcus is fantastic, 87 goals for United by the age of 23, what a player.

I’m going to go on a limb and say you’ll be getting promoted in about 100 years.

Why is everyone quoting that guy ? He is a WUM. In my younger days, I used to create ID in rival forums just to do the art of wumming. Call their best players overrated. Its fun to see people falling for it :D
That’sexactly the point. There should be away of sidelining people like you who only wanted to destroy the point of the forum for egotistical reasons. Which is the point of a newbie syatem, I guess.

Yeh he's my favorite pundit/interviewer. Class act, down to earth. Gets some good info out of high profile figures.
Used to think this until he told all Newcastle fans to band together to buy the club from Mike Ashley instead of protesting. He’s a bit of a hypocrite in that sense with everything that’s going on with our club, because he’s mates with Ashley.

Was a good watch, this.

It's funny that Rooney is probably more 'football articulate' than Rashford considering how dumb people seem to think he is. He speaks about it really well.

I get the feeling Rashford has it in him but sometimes doesn't vocalize it as well as he could.

What I like about Rashford is how down to earth he is (so is Rooney btw), almost seems star struck next to Rio and Rooney.

Rooney is Rooney, last of street footballers, someone unhappy with 2 goals in a game since he didn't have too many touches

And Rio is just natural infront of camera, relaxed and brings best out of anyone infront of him, really nice video this.

Yeh to be fair I remember that and I was a bit taken aback.

Interviewed by Rio.

At 9:44, Rooney talks about how he didn't enjoy his season as the centre forward.

The stuff from Rashford is fascinating too. He discusses his debut at 20:10.
It's weird to hear him say that he hated being a centre forward because I read his book "my decade in the Premier League" and he said that when Ronaldo and Tevez left in 2009, he was delighted that Sir Alex told him he would be the striker the next season and that he had been pushing for it for a few years.

Yeah, weren't there also rumours of him asking for Sneijder or Ozil to play behind him? Could be that those seasons as a striker under Van Gaal scarred him as that was after this book.

Did you watch the video? The numbers literally show that he's improved year on year.

I love Rashford but he didn't come across all that well in that video to me, maybe he's actually quite shy but he came across like he didn't want to be there

It's also the second interview I've seen recently when he's been quite outspoken against Mourinho, feels a bit like sticking the boot in when he's down

Mourinho lives by the sword. He’s happy to say whatever he likes about players, true or false, so he’s big enough and ugly enough to deal with it when they have their say.

True but why lower yourself to his level? Be the bigger man his record (in terms of sackings) speaks for itself

Such a good idea letting newbies post in main forum.
In fairness this kind of shite isn't exclusive to newbies, a quick glance at the matchday threads on any given day shows plenty of it.

Watched this last night, really interesting stuff from the two lads. Great seeing the clips from their debuts again, especially Wayne against Fenerbache, what a start that was.

He is a manager now to be fair but rooney was also a football genius as a player. The guy gave us so much as a player, miss the scouse bastard. I won't lie there were some things rashford said that like you said comes across a bit simple. Would love Greenwood n Rooney next

It's not surprising that Rooney did not enjoy playing as the main centre forward. It was never his game. The fact that he still scored so many playing that role just tells you how good he actually was. Class.

That also tells me players like Rashford, Martial or even Greenwood (for now) aren't suited to that main centre forward role because they like getting on the ball facing goal rather than away from it. It's why Cavani always brings balance to the team and why we need a proper centre forward.

Yup, although it's often something young forwards get much better at as they develop.

Van Persie was the same kind of player until he was about 26, then he developed into an incredible back-to-goal striker. Suarez was like that too. Even Aguero wanted to play behind a big man like Dzeko/Negredo until he was in his mid-20s.

Martial has already gotten much better at this since he's gone back to playing up front regularly. I still think Rashford could develop into a central striker too - or at least, he could do it if he didn't have Greenwood to compete with two years from now!
