Literally my favourite player (along with Bruno). He just has that something that Manchester United players of old had. It’s not even that he’s so damn good, it’s like a swashbuckling bravado whilst also seeming like a decent bloke. So glad we get to see him play here for another year and a real shame we didn’t get him many years ago.
Very well-said. Agree with every word here. El Matador is amazing for us.

The way we have played / coached for a few years is to play the ball to the player not into space, this results in players not making that run and the player with the ball having to look to where the recieving player is. What we have now is a throw back to when players put the ball into space knowing that the forward will be running into it, which means the player with the ball only needs to look for the space. This takes time to develop the understanding between players and in many cases a complete mind change in delivering the ball. It would appear that in recent games this understanding is developing i.e., aginst Aston Villa Rashford anticipated where Cavani would be, result a goal.

True. With Martial it never was going to happen and neither is Rashford or Greenwood. Now our midfield should learn to put in there for Cavani. McTominay is the biggest culprit.

Monster player. I wish we had him years ago. You could argue all day long who was better out of him or Zlatan

Welcome Cavani, think he'll have an excellent season here tbh. People who compare him to Falcao are way off the mark. Cavani didn't have an injury like Falcao coming off of ACL surgery at that age. Some injuries last season plus a shortened season plus him wanting to leave/not getting on with Neymar led to a poor last season, but overall was a top striker for them and performed every year. He's a complete striker, will give us a physical presence, experience for a young group of attackers, a huge aerial threat but also very good hold up play/natural striker instinct and movement, etc.

People complaining at Cavani are more directing it at him but angry at the way its all been handled. If we brought in Cavani in August a month before the season and terminated Ighalo's loan, nobody would've complained and it would've made sense. Would've had time to get match fit etc. Instead we do it on deadline day in October, meaning he likely won't be match fit until late October/after next international break.
Just gonna file this one under "called it" ;)

Can't believe he only achieved superstar limelight when he is 34. Not too long ago Cavani was just another elite striker playing in France..

He deserves better, and we will give it to him.

I cannot understand why strikers today wants to play with the ball at their feet. We have too many such players, hopefully that Greenwood develop into a different striker and I hope Cavani can play another few years.

We played many through balls before Cavani's here.

He's right though, Cavani has brought a long-overdue attitude change, an understanding that it's the run that comes first. Before, too much of our build-up play involved players waiting to see the pass coming before making the run for it. You need to just make the runs, constantly, over and over again, if you want to start receiving the passes.

It's the combination of Bruno, a player utterly unafraid to try those passes any time they're on no matter how many he has to waste, and Cavani, a player who will make the runs all day long regardless of whether he thinks the pass will come or not, which has made this happen.

We made lots of runs, even before Cavani. Our problem is those run inside penalty box. Strangely, most of our players are allergic to this.

Im just praying he can stay fit. Just imagine a Cavani at the level he has been paying the last few games over the the whole season!

Indeed. Cavani is great but there is a bit of revisionism going on here.
For strikers, when Lukaku was here, and when Martial could bother. It's just Cavani's workrate is insane, those make more runs.

I think Greenwood can be very good at it, actually. On the fence about Rashy but hopefully yes. Agree with Martial. He has tricks up his sleeves but he is not clever about positioning and therefore he may score great goals but I doubt he will ever be a great goal-scorer. Would have happened by now if it was possible. I think we need to sell Martial while we can still get some money for him.

Hopefully he's not benched or allowed to leave. Him and ronaldo playing together would be a nightmare for defenders. They'll free up space for bruno/sancho/pogba/greenwood to operate.

Not so sure about that.

Cavani is no longer the one who has the fitness to be the support striker for a better talisman: Zlatan. At this stage of his career, Cavani prefers to play central, and leading the line. He's been decent in situation like last season where inconstant young players can't lead the line. However, he's not that great, nor that committed that we have to bend over for him, now that we have new option with Sancho and especially Ronaldo.

With someone as capable of finishing like Ronaldo, it's the other way around. You need to free up space, and serve up chance for him, as he's the best at put away those chances. He's the one to build the team around.

IMO, after signing Ronaldo, I wouldn't care less about letting Cavani leave. Ronaldo, Rashford, Greenwood, Sancho, Bruno, Pogba on the left, Martial, Amad, Elanga, even Lingard and Dan James are more than enough cover for those attacking position

I am the first to hold my hands up and say I was wrong about Cavani. His work ethic last year was outstanding, especially for someone at his age coming into the premier league. We absolutely should be keeping him on board this season. I don’t think it was ever planned he would be first choice last year but with Martial’s poor performances and injuries it fell on Cavani’s shoulders and he stepped up in some big moments.

If we really want to compete in all competitions, we need a good squad that we can use to rotate and also have options off the bench (something we have not really had for a few years)

Cavani is still one of our best finishers and our only other out and out striker and is a much needed member of the squad, at least for the season.

That I will argue.

Ronaldo will play a lot of games, and when he plays, Cavani is no longer the type that is compatible to play along side him as explained above. Someone younger which we have plenty, are needed for the supporting role. When Ronaldo needed a rest, someone like Greenwood who is on the verge to step up another level need that limelight spot to lead the line, and gain those previous experience. Ronaldo then is still expected to be the sub to save the game if thing go tits up. So in between all those, I don't see much time for the current Cavani bar another disastrous season for all our attackers including Ronaldo.

Greenwood is better natural finisher than Cavani. Cavani has the experience, and movement know how over Greenwood, but Greenwood is the one for the future, which now with Ronaldo, Greenwood development should be prioritized when itKs choice between playing Cavani vs Greenwood. Greenwood forward type is better to learn from Ronaldo than Cavani.
