Sad to see. Was never going to fill Ronaldos boots, but a fine player who gave us so many great memories

Good servant to the club.

Would have loved to have seen him not suffer that injury.

I remember the time everyone was slagging him off and I predicted he would develop into one of the best right backs in the league and for a season or so he did. Good times.

Top professional whose legacy should be decoupled from Ronaldo.

very good professional who didn’t really get the recognition he deserves. Personally I think converting him into a RIght back was a master stroke and for a spell he was one of the best around in that position (although I know not everyone will agree.) He combined brilliant physical attributes, 1-1 defending and very strong technical ability (primarily his control) to really lock down that RB position as the best since Neville. In a way AWB reminds me a little of Valencia but I’d argue Valencia had a tighter control and greater physical attributes, while AWB has exceptional timing in his tackles and some tidy tricks to beat a man.

Overall; solid yet unspectacular winger, physical beast of a RB and above all a fantastic professional.

Good luck for him in the future. Was a great servant for the club and a very good player in his prime.

Mr Reliable. Great servant to the club. His pace and power was ridiculous. Miss having that type of throwback winger who hugs the touchline and gets crosses in.

Hope he has a happy retirment. Be nice to see him go into management.

Loved him. Guy would go through the brickwall for any manager. Probably the toughest player I've seen in the last decade.

Very good player for the club. Model professional, never once did he moan publicly. Very good winger at his peak and reinveted him self a decent fullback.

And that cracking goal versus Everton... wow.

I think it was the World Cup 2006 where he was one of the best young players? Wigan got him from Villarreal and I was a fan but never thought we would be in for him.

I’m glad we signed him. He’s a good player that had brutal injuries but a consummate pro.

Question, how did he do in centre midfield for Ecuador? I’m sure he played there for them a few times

Think people under-rate his early winger days. At a point in time it was fun to watch him just knock it past fullbacks for fun and get the ball into Rooney. So direct, knew what he was gonna do and you couldn't stop it.

Was an alright right back too.

True to form he’ll do a 180 and be playing again within the week.

Every team needs at least one of these guys. Thanks Tony V, enjoy the retirement.

Full backs around the world will be breathing a sigh of relief on behalf of their bruised shins...

Jokes aside, Tony V was a great servant to the club, one of the fittest players I’ve ever seen and a model professional. I hope he enjoys his retirement.

Must be the only time he used his left foot. Good memories of him at United though.
Actually it was a runing joke on here at the time because anytime he did use his left foot it was a decent cross.

The goal against Blackburn was great. I prefer it to the Everton one

One of those players that are so good at one specific thing that despite not being a worldie, they're perfectly servicable in a top class team. Him at his peak with Rooney as striker was pretty bloody good. Everyone knew what he was going to do but couldn't do much about it. Also deserves huge credit for coming back almost seamlessly from that grim injury.

He was a beast as a winger in his first couple seasons with the club when it coincided with Rooney moving to center forward. Rooney would spend entire games spreading the ball wide to him and rushing the box knowing fully well, the cross would get there with pace.

Fantastic player at his best and always 100% commitment - an underrated quality. Wouldn’t be averse to him getting a statue.

I was a big fan too. Tough as old boots. Came back from that sickening leg break like it was nothing. Remember the game he finished looking like this?

Yeah, loved that game. There are plenty players who we deem as hardmen, whether through body-built or way of playing but I believe he's genuinely tough.

The man recovered from a horror injury -- v Rangers I believe -- and ultimately reinvented himself as a fullback. Never a legend, not a great, but definitely a great servant of the club.
