To be honest, it feels like the same situation Ole was in a year or two ago. The big difference is that the media have decided that Arteta is a footballing visionary and can do no wrong, whereas the knives were out for Ole after every questionable result or performance.

I dont even dislike Arteta that much, its just the stark difference in how he is treated that does my nut in.
tbf to Ole, before Bruno came in, when we kinda parked the bus we were absolutely lethal with counter-attacks and quick transitions. This Arteta's team is not even close to that.

Tonight was exactly like the early results that deluded people into thinking Arteta is some kind of managerial genius. Fluke a goal against the run of play and put on one of the most grim all out defensive displays you’ll ever see. Will get an occasional good result but hopeless as a long term strategy. As we already found out.

Dammit. Scored a fluke goal and sat back whilst riding our luck. We did absolutely nothing going forward.
Pretty much mate. It’s these kind of results that will keep him in the job. Even though generally, Arsenal got spanked.

On a side note, the cherry on top of Arsenal’s awful season under Arteta would be winning enough games between now and the end of the season to qualify for the Europa Conference League. Even the name is humiliating. Would be so funny if they had to compete in it.
Surely Everton will save us from that?!

Sickener for Arsenal. It gives them every excuse to keep Arteta when they really know he should be on the way out.

A master piece from the elite manager, Arteta!
I was confused by the team though. It is Westbrom under big Sam, but somehow wearing Arsenal shirts?

I agree. For what it's worth, I think Arsenal should stick with Arteta. He needs time to build something.

I disagree. The performances we had under Ole at this time in his tenure were like night and day. We actually carried a lot of threat and teams played into our hands.

Where the similarity in performances were, were when Ole was the caretaker, like Spurs or the PSG games, where we definitely rode our luck. But in mitigation, Ole had no transfers of his own to work with at the time and made do with an ill prepared squad. And for every Spurs or PSG game during this period, I can throw in an Arsenal 3-1 or Chelsea 2-0 in the cup where we were legitimately good.

Can we say the same about Arteta? How many legitimately good performances can we say his team have brought us? Chelsea in the cup final? Chelsea in the league this year? It's pretty slim pickings considering he's been there almost 18 months and has had the benefits of two transfer windows. By this time, for comparisons sake, Ole had beaten Pep's city home and away in the league, beat Chelsea 4-0 at home and beat them at SB 2-0, as well as beating them in the league cup. Almost all of which were legitimately good performances, especially the two City games.

Agree with the rest of your post though.

There's a few other games like vs Spurs at home & Leicester away, but it's a decent point.

We need better on the ball, definitely. Fans can take the occasional plucky result like last night, but they aren't going to take the persistent 0-0, 0-1's at home, that's for sure.

Results wise we're in an ok place, not great by any means but up there with some of the better teams, we need performances especially at home to go with it now.

Can't see any reason for him to stay if they fail to qualify to Europa League.
He has brainwashed everyone by fluking a trophy and setting up cones for Pep.

The fact he was complaining about media pressure last night was hilarious. Seems to be completely up his own ass, and deluded to boot.

While Lampard was struggling as well, I found him a lot more likeable.

The media press is very Mourinhesque defletion tactic, though. Yes, very typical of young coaches who were former elite players who think just because they have the knowledge tey can do it, ut in reality they can't put it into pratice. He needed more experience before taking this job. Pep at least managed the B team for a season, which may not look, but makes a difference to have at least some experience to see what works and what doesn't work.

It's an interesting 1. He could easily have been sacked at Xmas, our form then was shocking.

However, if we sacked him & had employed a new manager then, & that manager had us in the same position points wise as Arteta has since then, you'd have said he was doing quite well.

Yet, there's games like the Villarreal game & the Fulham / Everton games that are just sheer frustration.

We know he's not getting sacked in the summer, so he has a lot of work to do & a lot of improvement to do at home especially if he's to try & win the majority of fans over.

He wasn't even a elite player, so to speak.

Anyway, watched the game last night and I found them, minor a few individual performances, quite flat and ordinary. Odegaard has been rather underwhelming.
Chelsea were the more progressive side yet made more than a few errors in the final 3rd.

The worst manager in the division for me. Completely deluded and just comes across as a complete clown.

Clearly loves himself too.

He picks the wrong teams, wrong tactics, turns good players average, poor results and is now falling out with the media. Baffling why they have stuck with him for so long.

Embarrassing.

Arsenal plays some horrific stuff under him I don’t think there’s a definition for their football. You just tend to fall asleep regardless of who they play and at what hour.

HIs results are improving, since boxing day top 6 side.
Issue is his football is just not sustainable. His team is too cowardly on the ball and play like Tony Pulis side. Yes they will have some decent results here and there like yesterday's or the one at Old Trafford but overall they will continue to struggle. His side hardly dominates opponents and hence we will continue to see defeats. It's been 1 and half year since his appointment and so far nothing suggests he can set his side to play a dominant brand of football.

And people think we've had a fall from grace, just compare this Arsenal side to Wengers with Henry, Viera, Pires etc. It's like Parma's team back in the day compared to Parma's team now

Arteta's football fails the eye test and the occasional decent result makes it appear he's doing better than he actually is. I think this is likely to persuade those higher up to give him some more time when really its pretty clear he's not up to the job.
I'd take Smith-Rowe at Utd though, I think he'll be a superb player in a few years time.

Generally has been getting better results since Christmas but their style of play still seems awful whenever I watch them. They’ve got some good players as well so it doesn’t feel he’s getting anywhere near the best out of them. Feels he is safe until next season but is going to surely need a strong start to keep his job.

Do you think he know's he's getting sacked at the end of the season? Weird timing to start having a go at people regarding his reputation
No idea, but how could he not know?
Surely somewhere inside it must feel like a version of that Marx Brothers quote - "I don't want to be managing a club that doesn't sack managers like me"

They got a fluky goal and parked the bus. They were terrible. What the hell is this?
It’s journalists doubling down on their previous predictions that Arteta is the second coming of Guardiola, they need to do this to make people believe that they know what they’re talking about when it comes to football. It’s why some of them are still so negative and bitter about Solskjaer.

Him complaining about the press is amusing considering he has had it incredibly easy compared to a lot of managers who have done far better than him.

Points average over that period works out at circa 70 points over a full season. It’s a lot better than I’d anticipated, particularly as I’m struggling to recall any really good performances. Has there been a notable improvement from an Arsenal fan’s perspective?
They had a very good 5 match run between matchday 16-21. Someone did a breakdown of it on Reddit.

Matchday 1-15: Arsenal = 15th place [1]

Matchday 16-21: Arsenal = 2nd place [1]

Matchday 22-today: Arsenal = 8th place [1]

Although they've been better the second half of the season than the first, dividing the table like the arsenal fan has done here gives a somewhat misleading impression to how well they've performed the second half of the season imo.
