I remember United running riot at Anfield in 2003, may have been the match Hyypia was sent off early.
We never run riot at Anfield.

The match in which Hyypia was sent off was at Old Trafford, and we ended up winning 4-0

The bad thing about today was that we lost, that it was to Liverpool makes it worse. As far as where Liverpool finishes on the table? Couldn't give less of a shit. I care about them insofar that I want us to beat them, and that's the extent of it.

Will I laugh if they miss out on the CL? Yes, of course. But should they somehow manage to claw their way into top four, it doesn't negatively affect me. The players have had a long, packed season, and after four games in the last week, with nothing to play for today, I'm inclined to forgive them for faltering.
Well I disagree. Our rivals doing well definitely impacts me. When they won number 19 did you not care, or was Moe like "oh I'm just concerned about us!". They win feck all for coming top 4 but it boosts the short term future of any club. Which is something we should be ensuring doesn't happen if it's in our hands j.e like not getting thumped at home.

It does effect us though, as United fans. The knock on effect of Liverpool getting CL football surely doesn't need stating..? The signings they are able to make, the players that will likely remain etc. means they are more of a threat to us next season. I'm not surprised or particularly pissed off that we lost, but I do understand that the impact of Liverpool winning makes them more of a threat to us going forward. That's the worse part of it, in my opinion.
Agree with this.

Imagine us getting so far into the competition next season, and then being drawn against Liverpool - and then being knocked out by them... all because we let them get there in the first place.

Sickening.

They are usually close games, and they defend for their lives at Anfield. Only hammering in recent years was the 3-0 under Moyes.

Would've been nice to deny them CL football but we really shouldn't be reliant on restricting our rivals' finances to get ahead. We're bigger than that.

Scandalous defensive performance. Even a sunday league team would have scored yesterday.

Sadly football is dictated by finances these days. It's no surprise that fans pay so much mind to it, given it's so influential to every outcome.

It would have been a massive statement. Like, 'Sure, you've been successful over the past few years, but now we're on top and we determine whether or not you get CL football'. Sadly the players to me looked completely tuckered out. Whatever will be will be, we're where we need to be so feck the scouse cnuts.

Pathetic stuff. Had chance the take away CL footy from your greatest rivals. Get thumped at home. Post SAF United for you. Just have LPFC the boost they needed fro the summer. Morons.
Tell me about it. Think this is why I’m really peed. I don’t think people realise how massive it would have been for them to miss out on the CL moving forward with their known financial limits and the knock on effect it would have for us. I can’t believe our players could be so timid with such things at stake.

Exactly. There should have been extra level of agression and authority about us yesterday. Hurting Liverpool big time and making a statement for next season. Instead it's like "okay, our season was done anyway". feck off. Understand the meaning of the rivalry and it's implications.

We've just handed them a CL birth. How is this okay?
The Champions League and football in general is better off if the best and most exciting teams are involved. I would prefer Liverpool over Chelsea getting CL. I don't live in England and I dislike Chelsea more then Liverpool.

Of course, what might happen is Chelsea wins the CL and Liverpool gets 4th.

I honestly think a lack of authority from midfield causes this. There's no one taking responsibility. With Maguire out, it all felt very directionless. Bruno was charging about like a headless chicken which while endearing, is obviously going to be a fruitless endeavour. Ole needs to stand up tall and recognise that the likes of McTominay, Fred, and Rashford need a rocket up their arses through competition. It's all too loose at times.

We played right into their hands. No idea who told our team that it's an extremely technical team that can knock it around the back and play through the phases.

Why didn't w play more direct? Pool have a problem at the back, ask those rookies to go head on with Bruno and Cavani. The rest of pools team is there. They can still press really well.

How didnt we test those defenders in the channel more? The first time we did it Rashford rinsed their defender so easily it just made the whole game frustrating. We aren't there where we can challenge a team like theirs technically, we have McFred in midfield ffs.

It was just a terrible game plan and even worse execution. The play at the back was nothing short of a joke. Our system is very confusing, and I'm sure the players are just as confused. It's just disappointing cause I fully expected us to rinse them.

Let’s just get some perspective to this game. This was Utd’s 4 game in a week. That sounds crazy if you really think about it. Utd have played twice more since Liverpool last played. This gave Liverpool extra time to prepare for this game and you could see it. I know Utd played a different team a couple of days ago, but all the players were mentally preparing for a game rather than training,

Also with this hectic schedule, Ole didn’t have many options to change things round from the bench.

Add to all this that Liverpool had more riding in this game than a tired Utd, it was a perfect time for Liverpool to play us.

it makes me laugh how after one game and all of a sudden Liverpool are favourites for the Title and CL next season and Utd will be struggling to make top 4. This is typical over reaction.

it’s disappointing to lose to these feckers, but Utd have improved. A win in the EL final will give this team the confidence and another 3 signings (Bisoumma, Sancho, Kounde) all gettable under 150m ( minus Lingard 40m and a couple of others). Utd will be a force next season.

I believe the result would have been different had the game not have been postponed. I don't want to start an argument, but it seems weird and inconsistent that fans 'protested' the Liverpool game, but didn't do so for the Leicester game.

The players were prepared and desperate to play on May 2. All of our preparation was thrown out the window, and we've suffered horrendously and I fear we'll struggle to win another game this season, especially with Maguire now injured.

Today the players could not cope with Liverpool's press. It was very disappointing and frustrating to see. Bailly is a calamity, and McTominay and Fred don't have enough quality for this team.

They could well have been jaded and not up for it the same as Liverpool, but the match showed us a few things.
Hendo is a decent keeper but not yet good enough for a title chasing side.
Dave is a must for the Europa Final.
Maguire on crutches is a better bet than either Bailly or Lindelof against Villarreal.
Fred....he tries but his passing and shooting are abysmal... if he stays he can't be a regular next season.
No way Rashford can play on the right. Diallo would have been a better choice last night... play Greenwood there in the Final in Gdansk.
Has there ever been a more frustrating player than Pogba ? I guess we will have to live with it as I can't see anyone coming in for him pre season.

The biggest factor in the game was Liverpool pressed us and we couldn’t cope. Mctominay hid, Fred just played dumb passes and back four just kept giving it away.

Given how this season has played out we should have finished second and deserve to be there. Last night was a reminder that there is loads of work to do just to stay second next season let alone try to kick on and catch City.

A lot of people have been sat down by Ole this year and are jumping on the chance to use overall meaningless games to tell us they were right all along.
Jesus, Liverpool gave up last year after the league meant nothing and they won the league ffs.
The team isnt overall shit this morning and nobody can tell me that a side, who have been comfortably second all season, is suddenly so susceptible to being overwhelmed, outplayed and out pressed. Thats 1 defeat to a top 6 side this season. 1 (cant include Leicester)

Bad result but overall it doesn’t mean much. Fernandes embarrassed himself rolling around like he’d been hit by a sniper.

The result doesn't feel any better this am. But it was to be expected with the crazy fixture timings.
The lack of rotation earlier in the season was always around the corner to bite us.
Our line up and set up still grip my s##t last night. As Good as TAA was last night his lack of ability to defend was still glaring. Why was Rashford not told to push right up there on him and get behind him and stretch them on the left instead of being lost out on the right.
The fact Ole waits till 60 odd mins befor moving things is so frustrating.
A lot of players had a really bad day at the office including our keeper who I'm still to be convinced by. The presence of a leader in the middle of the park and the centre back position is glaring to see.
A huge transfer market in the summer is needed but we will see where the boards ambitions are.

A shit week for us and an anti climax to the end of the season. Know we've got the EL final coming up but I really fancied us yesterday. Started strong and thought we dominated play and would go on and win comfortably. That didn't happen. The wheels fell off after 30 mins and that feels like shit. Even worse: I've seen better Liverpool teams than that. Gutted!

So if Leicester win their two remaining games and Chelsea end up in fifth but win the Champs league does that mean the Dippers would miss out on a Champs league place in 4th spot?

At least we are winning the "shoot or head the ball aimlessly at a opponent under no pressure at all"-league. AWB, Fred and McT our best players.

No, we'd just have five English teams in the CL next season - only way 4th would miss out would be if both the CL and EL winners were English teams who finished outside top 4

Look on the bright side, that’s Klopps first win at OT, they haven’t won at our place in 7 years until yesterday and that’s the team who are the greatest that ever existed if you believe the crap they come out with.

Man Utd 1:0 Liverpool - Phillips (10' o.g.)

Man Utd 1:1 Liverpool - Jota (34')

Man Utd 1:2 Liverpool - Firmino (45' + 3)

Man Utd 1:3 Liverpool - Firmino (47')

Man Utd 2:3 Liverpool - Rashford (68')

Man Utd 2:4 Liverpool - Salah (90')
That was a bloody embarrassment and I am still fuming and all those who slagged David de Gea off when he was playing and struggling due to the confidence in his defence I hope you are eating your words, some of those gaffs by Henderson was championship level keeping. And this game shows how crucial Maguire is as Lindelof and Bailly should be sold in the summer and bring in some defenders who can actually bloody defend and not panic/collapse. I was more angry that Axel didn't play when I thought he was one of the few that did well against Leicester. The players attitudes in this game was a joke.

And Rashford why the hell are you playing him Ole, clearly bloody injured  Greenwood was one of the few that can hold his head high in that game, play the kids for the remaining games and we go into the Europa Final with that attitude and performance we aint winning nothing. I can't wait for this season to be over. Fred/McTominay shouldn't start another game for us after this and when your looking for someone who could do something off the bench to replace these clowns you just shrug as there is no one who could do a slightly better job. Next season if we get the right players scrap this 2 CDM crap.

Maybe we had a day to prepare or something. Not the only reason and not an excuse.... But if fans are really asking why the tactical prep was poor...

There's only one United!
Henderson is not as good as we thought.
Fred and Henderson were disastrous yesterday.
Rashford is just strolling around the pitch and seems to carrying some sort of injury.
Our central defence is shite.
Ole can't manage to get us a step higher and Villareal will now press us all over the pitch.

In a season of some horribly inept (home) performances, that was truly diabolical - total shite almost from start to finish. Individual errors, mass errors, players showing they aren't anywhere close to good enough and the all-too-often-seen rabbit caught in the headlights from Ole.

Some people were saying at the start of the week that we could close the gap to City to just four points - we aren't within 14 of them if you ask me - almost as far from them as we were from Liverpool last year.

When exactly is Ole going to realise that the Fred/McTominay thing in midfield doesn't actually work? It produces slow passages of play, especially early in games. When is he going to stop playing square pegs in round holes: all season we have seen where Rashford is ineffective - and when are we going to admit he needs an operation and rest?

Once again, when Bruno doesn't have a worldie, we are lost - and lose. Pogba had another one of those games where he ran around like a headless chicken, we almost never passed to Cavani (he had a poor game too) and the defence was an embarrassment, panicking any time the ball came near them - even Luke Shaw reverted to the 2019 version of himself.

I'm struggling to find any positives, and certainly can't pick a man of the match. How we made their defence look like France's World Cup winner back four is a mystery. Sorry, i don't see this as progress or improvement. All it is is an occasional flash-in-the-pan or, at best, decent run of results which papers up earthquake-style cracks.

Just gave? What planet are you on? The title was won two months ago and as for the Liverpool UCL thing? That’s not our agenda and nor
Should it be. It was a match that we should have performed to Utd standards and simply won it because they are pretty hopeless. Whether they were fighting relegation or a top 4 spot is irrelevant. We go out to win

Yeah, potentially salvaging Liverpool's season for them is a really tough one to take. I didn't watch the match and I'm glad to have missed it, sounds awful.
