Frankly, I'm starting to be keen on signing him because I can't watch this midfield anymore.

Whatever about Rice hinself, it's certainly easy to see the value a Rice-type player would bring.

Well, It's not like Rice would be quality on ball either ? Think I will pass. Sign someone who is decent on the ball immediately. We badly need someone who can pass the ball from deep.

I do not want to see either Fred or Matic feature for us next season. Just watching them play for us makes my blood boil. McT may not be the best but I feel he at least offers something from the offensive end or from the bench. We made Liverpool look great today. Our defense will be in the limelight but our midfield was run over by Wijnaldum, Thiago, and Fabinho. We need a Fabinho type figure and Rice may offer that sort of stability, protection, and leadership. I hope United can do some sort of deal with West Ham involving Lingard.

I wish we could find someone who can offer the same attributes as him but is better on the ball and wouldn't cost the earth, however we don't seem to have any interest in this area outside of him whatsoever and that is so naive on our part

I'm sliding towards this line of thinking. We just need someone that doesn't get cut through so easily. Neither McTominay or Fred are defensively minded players and it really shows. I'm sure there are alternatives out there (Tchouameni, Camavinga, Locatelli?), but we just need someone urgently.

For me, he should be #1 priority signing. Followed by a centre back.

Last night showed we lack real depth in quality defensively.

I'm thinking we play Pogba and Bruno in front of him and they can both drop in the play off phase. There are also our CB's whom should take moore responsibility. Lindelöf is doing ok and hopefully we improve CB position as well this summer.
What I like a lot with Rice is that I believe he can and will take the CDM role serious without loosing his head going forward when its time to cover up for others.
I can't stand when our players push forward and no one cover up the space behind.

I don't know how you can watch games like tonight and say we don't need 1. a solid DM and 2. Rice
Solid DM and Rice? What's Rice supposed to be?

I think we have to be very very careful about our next CM signing. If we're not we may well end up with Fred, Mctominay, Van De nothing, Matic and a new CM as 5 CMs who can't playmake and show quality on the ball. And then a bunch of AMs furher up the pitch.

No possession. No low centre of gravity. No metronome. No playmaking. We'll continue to "passion" United in midfield that plays on the counter.

What exactly are people expecting Rice to do?

He wouldn't have been any better last night. I think some are expecting him to come in and play like Roy Keane ffs

If we buy him for £60m and expect him to be running midfield people are going to be having the Fred situation all over again.

Sorry both attributes is exactly what I mean, people that don't think we need a defensive midfielder firstly and people that don't think we need Rice. From what I've seen of him, Rice has the passing and technical ability to go with the "passion" (defensive shielding ability).

Would be a bit like Maguire, a much needed signing that people won’t appreciate because of the price until he’s not playing and we have to go back to Fred and McTominay.

Indeed, he seems to have earned a reputation for being a good passer which I think is something he's been credited for despite their being no evidence of it.

I’ll have the passer next or in front of Rice.

we need some defensive stability.

he is our casemiro, our Fernandinho our busquets.

He is actually Brilliant young player who has been progressing quite well and has all the attributes to be big success at top club, all though I don't watch much football outside PL but I would be surprised If we could find better similar profile player without spending big bucks outside PL either , so if we could get him for 35-40 m with Lingard going to West Ham we should definitely take the deal.

agree, i'd be absolutely shocked if a proper journo doesn't link us to both Rice and Sancho as our transfer focus. Doesn't mean we'll get both, but confirmation that both will be our targets at least would make me think the club is thinking about the correct options. Right now, we are seeing serious noise from the Sancho thread, but i'd like some BBC/Ducker/Peach/Orny stories about Rice.

All of the mentioned players are quite good on the ball especially Busquets who was brilliant but having said that Rice is no Slouch on the ball either with plenty of room for improvement we should definitely go for him.

This has to happen. McFred is criminal.

I can stomach watching a Maguire Lindelof pair. I can't stomach watching McFred week in week out.

im no person in a rush. We don’t have a rice type player in the squad. We need to see how garner progresses, we might have to replace pogba as a creative cm one day but it still leaves us needing Rice as that ball winning midfielder that protects his Centre defenders

Probably just a lazy comparison on my behalf because they're both tall dark haired English midfielders who have played for West Ham, but maybe Carrick is an example.

I remember the same sort of thing "he's not worth that, he's not good enough" and people were pissed off when we signed him- then we won 3 straight PL titles immediately after signing him (and just him) that summer.

Thing is Carrick came in to replace one of the United's best midfielder if not the Best in form of Keane but Rice would displace Fred or Mctominay not the same thing but you are right there seem to be maybe not deliberate but subconscious underrating of Rice to be honest from certain posters or maybe I might be overestimating his qualities.

Does he? every time i've seen him he just knicks the ball in front of a parked bus and then proceeds to play it simple to the wide areas or Antonio.

He's a decent ball winner but who's he going to partner? you're basically swapping like for like. He's a decent extra body but isn't going to change our fortunes.

I've enjoyed his England performances. Those unsure watching West Ham, for England he's maybe playing in a similar way to what he would be at United, seems just what we need in front of the defence. Really impressed with how he quickly and cleanly dealt with a lot of situations and kept possession well. Paired with someone with more attacking play-making style would be great.

Whilst we're in a desperate need for a quality DM I think people are over rating this guy massively. He's barely played any International football, never played European football and he's been decent for Westham without being spectacular and all of sudden he's the answer to our prayers?

He's going to cost minimum 65 - 70m so it's a big fat 'No' from me. City wouldn't pay it. They would find somebody abroad for half the price. We're the only club in the world who would pay that kind of a fee for a player like Rice.

With the prices being quoted for Rice, there are much better options out there. Hope we keep the options open. Would prefer Neuhas and Camavinga and it would cost us only less than 50.

Don't think we would go for him at those prices considering we are screaming out for a CB and a RW. Really need a top quality DM though so that we don't have to see two cart horses in midfield who cannot play past a press if their lives depended on it.

Some people talk about Rice like he's some absolute clogger on the ball when he's really not. We're currently playing with two blokes who half the time can't pass 5 yards for heavens sake.

He's definitely not a clogger. But I don't think he's the world beater some think he is either.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
Does anyone think he's a world beater? I don't believe so? Do people think he has bags of potential to be very good, yes and probably fairly so.
He’s a Maguire for central midfield. A strong leader, great character, consistent, will play every week and one of the best players at his position in England. An absolute no brainer for me.

Pretty much. Plus at 22 he's younger than Maguire was when we signed him, so you'd be buying him with quite a few years ahead in mind. If he signed he'd be here for the long haul.

At the very high price he'd cost, there may well be better options for that role out there if our scouts can identify them. But if we were to sign him for a big fee I'd be fine with it

I don’t know how anyone can look at Lindelof and say he’s doing ok? He’s a hider. Maybe ok compared to Bailly and Jones, but there is much better out there

70/80 mill and he’s ours. Throw in
Jesse and it’s around 50m
