He made one valid point about years of no firm footballing structure and a banker dispensing the cash. Other than that, he has the vibe of an out of touch old geezer on the brink of senility. Painful viewing tbf.
Yes but Souness is not seeing the forest for the trees. Supporters are tired of non-football people like Woodward and Arnold being given the responsibility of spending those funds. That, coupled with the owners’ complete communication disconnect with the fans, is what fuels the fans’ hatred, something that existed prior to the ESL fiasco.

Aye, I'd generally be of the same view. But he was right about the amount of money spent, how it was spent and who was in charge of the spending. A billion spent on the team and they've taken about a tenth of that out in dividends as part of the debt servicing, which is also around 1bn including dividends, interest and payments. If the Glazer's didn't spend such big sums on the team or were just taking money out all the time and paying the debt. Then Utd would be like Newcastle under Ashley and probably have Steve Bruce in charge.

Listen I love Keano the player and his recent link up with Micah has been funny... however he's a first class fecking drama queen.

I know, I said it. But it's true.

I've never seen a grown man swing from a positive to a nuclear-world-is-ending negative diatribe quite like Roy.

One minute it's positives and we need two or three players, then after a single result (against a rival in fairness but a bit of a dead rubber) it's the end of the world and Ole and the team may as well pack up and go home now because we are light years away from City. Feck me, Roy, give it a rest.
Keano should sign up to RedCafe he'd fit right in

Agree.

Also, I still dont like the continual dismissive attitude from UK pundits towards the Europa League.

If anyone here thinks Fred and McTominay are good enough to be in the strongest 11 of United then it's sad how our standards have dropped.

These two are maybe ok squad players but they would never get a 100 miles of City, Chelsea etc.

Look at the players in the center of the best teams. Are you telling me these two guys are good enough?

Nobody who has seen United play in the past 30 years believes they are good enough to start, of course not.

But looking back at the top players and seeing how they would fit is kind of a pointless task as it's just stating the obvious. Top player would be better, duh.

If a Fred or McTominay were paired with a Carrick or Scholes, United would be much closer to City. I think that's pretty obvious. But where is the next Paul Scholes or Carrick who is going to step right in and grab a CM position going into next season and be that next level player in the middle of the park who has the desired impact?

Is it Rice, Bissouma, etc.? I don't know, but we all know there has to be better players than Fred and McTominay because United have had better players previously in their ranks.

Honestly I don't think anyone thinks this or has alluded to, that they're of that particular standard.

Listening to him eviscerate Fabinho, who is clearly an good player, because he didn’t track one run, was a bit cringe. He makes a valid point and then drowns it out by banging on about desire for 45 mins.

I think people misunderstand where Keane and Souness are coming from when they criticize a lot of modern midfielders. For them the two fundamentals are you don't give the ball away cheaply and you always track back so when they see that happen it irritates them because these are meant to be the basics. It's more forgivable for other commentators because they can see the whole package that a midfielder brings but for more old school types it's unforgivable.

I personally don't rate Fred as a great midfielder but I think he's been very important to the balance of the team now for the past few years. I can see why Keane doesn't like him though. Incidents like last night happen far too often.

Can't say him and Souness are wrong. We've spent a mini fortune to arrive at a mediocre team. It's the stuff of legend.

McTom defo a squad player but Fred? He needs to be first player on transfer list, apart from his engine he offers us nothing.

Keane was spot on with everything he said yesterday.

At least he acknowledges he's been soft with Ole and some of the players.

We've gone with McFred in pretty much every game against the other big 7 and our record against them all this season is a horror story. And their lack of quality is a big part of that. Probably the single biggest factor.

I agree with them. To play in a premier league midfield, that's how you have to be.

I don't think he said anything there that isn't very logical. It's not knee-jerk to say that our squad cannot really cope with City's squad. The shortcomings of the squad - and the first XI - haven't ceased to be true just because we've had a relatively good time of late. We've not had many games where we have looked good the whole 90 minutes, but we've developed a knack for getting things over the line which is a great trait.

After 36 matches, we're on 70 points. The league this year is historically bad and unpredictable. I'd be surprised if 70-76 points gives you 2nd next season, and keeps you within any semblance of a title race.

He is quite correct, mid field players duty is in the attack win the ball, provide and support your attacking forwards, in defence cover your defence win the ball back and commence attacking play. This means in the attack move forward and when the opposition have the ball move back, not really rocket science but our midfield players seem to have difficulty doing this consistently.

I think Keane's slating of Scot McT shows why he was never cut out for management.

McTominay has been hailed as a mix between Scholes and Keane, after some superhero performances earlier this season. He's 24 years old and has played a lot of games and looks tired.

Yes he misplaced a lot of passes and didn't look his dynamic best against Liverpool. But Scott is at that stage where no one can really tell if he's reached his ceiling yet or not. Some technically limited players find that extra level later in their careers despite looking like horseshit in the earlier part of their career - Jordan Henderson, Nemanja Matic, Gareth Barry, James Milner, Darren Fletcher etc

Still too early to write-off McT

Problem is that I just don't see the talent in him to match those. Okay Barry and Milner I don't know about, never thought much of them. But Fletcher was technically much better, far better passer. Henderson's creative passing is on a completely different. Matic in his prime was one of the leagues best defensive midfielders and miles better ok the ball than the clumsy Mctominay.

I'd love to see this rapid rise from Scott but for me he's all effort, tenacity and physicality. Hard to see him develop the technical qualities required or even the defensive nous required now.

Young Keano there. SAF talking about him playing through injuries too. Random, but great.

The other piece you need to add is what Clough taught him at Forrest. Pass and move. He is right. This midfield is much worse than Anderson and Hargreaves too.

His performances in those two games against Newcastle that year (95-96) were fantastic. Rewatched the first game during lockdown where he played in centre defence in the second half and he was MOTM.

How is McTominay a mix between Scholes and Keane though? He is very shite in passing and doesn’t have anywhere near the aggression, drive and ball winning qualities from Keane. He wasn’t even near half the player of Scholes and Keane.

Maybe you mean he could shoot like Keane and tackle like Scholes?

At best I’d say he is a mix between Fletcher and Butt. But he is clearly not as good as them too.

Good grief Micah Richards is edited into a fcuking cartoon here. That’s coupled to the fact he thinks all he now needs to is laugh, makes it worse.

He’s jumped the shark with the manic cackle on a hair trigger and needs to walk it back a bit. He’s got a lot of good stuff to say for the most part, has strong convictions without being wedded to them, and I do really enjoy his accidental double act with Roy. He brings the best out of him. But laughing at absolutely everything is over already.

Think he’s going for the Ricky Gervais gimmick, and maybe Keane is Karl.
