Reactionary, obviously, but why didn't we take a chance on the son of a legend? He came through the City academy, right?

Should definitely be a long term recruitment strategy. We've got Neville 3 coming through, and no doubt could find 5 or 6 illegitimate Giggsy's kicking around somewhere...
He has joined Philip at Inter Miami I think

It was very slow, from some distance out, and took a bounce. Pretty routine save for De Gea.

Sensational strike for goal. I thought Schmeichel save to his left was superb in that the shot had so much pace.
Save to his right by the post was solid but any keeper who didnt stop that would be blamed.

One of the great FA Cup saves
Better than Seaman vs Sheffield Utd?
Funny thing is that goal wouldn't have counted as there was infringment (I think).

Great save though, probably the standout one in FA Cup history.

Now if we're talking about saves.

His dad be proud no doubt. He achieved a title win, and FA cup win now.

To me he is a Leicester legend.

Can anyone pick out a better save in a cup final this century? Reckon Casillas and Buffon have a shout here but I can’t really remember one. Unbelievable reach.
Zidane header WC 2006 and Inzaghi diving Header CL final 2003.

His dad pulled off a cracker or two in the FA Cup too if you recall correctly.

His saves in the Euro qualifier against Switzerland were top top tier:

He has it in him to be unbeatable in his day. Top keeper.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time

He seemed to be very average during the first half of his career. I remember watching him a couple of times in his City days (admittedly he was only 21 at the time) and he was painfully average. Looked like the classic example of a player getting a chance purely because of his father. Good on him though, he dropped down the leagues and worked on his game, and by the time he came back up to the Premiership with Leicester he was a completely different keeper. For a good 3 or 4 year period he was the best all-round keeper in the league IMO. Wish we went for him a couple of years ago after De Gea's first poor season.

From what I've seen he hasn't been as good this season though. Started making more mistakes and has let in goals that he probably should have done better with.

Why looking at the situation yes, but looking at the save in isolation, I think this is an overreaction. It was a powerful shot but saveable. He had time to react, and it wasn't in the corner. He just needed to get a strong hand on it, which he did to his credit.

In the context of the game, it was a match winner, but I have seen plenty of saves as good as that one. A Premier League goalkeeper would back himself to put that behind for a corner.

He had better ones this season.

He had a recital against Burnley and dragged them for a few games earlier this year.
I don’t recall in fairness. But post clips of the ones you reckon were better this season. I’m not saying you are wrong.

The one at minute one was the standout.

Great save but for me today’s was better. Sometimes you also have to add the occasion, but even not counting that, for me today’s was still better

You can really tell in this thread who saw the save live and who only saw clips after the game

The Mount save was fanatastic in the strong hand he got. Otherwise people are going a tad over the top? The other seemed okay.

I have never understood the hype around the Buffon Zidane save. It was a good firm hand but straight at him. I’d be furious if my keeper let that in. I always wonder if it has been mythologised to add an extra layer of narrative to Zidane’s final game, and everyone kind of goes along with it. The CL final save is better

If we’re talking the heavy shot Mount takes from inside the penalty box, great save. The most impressive thing is how perfectly he directs it away with a strong hand.

Buffon vs Zidane WC2006 save is extremely overrated. It’s a save every good goalkeeper should be making, just has a great narrative around it.

That save on Shevchenko’s diving header in 2003 UCL final, on the other hand, is incredible.
