Will Zidane have a management career outside Real Madrid?

I guess the title is a little bit misleading as nobody here had a crystal ball. The real question is how will it effect his managerial legacy if he never coaches another side?

Off the top of my head I can’t think of a comparable one club manager. His success there in a short period was extraordinary however I do think in time that’s going to be remembered as Ronaldo’s legacy rather than Zidane’s.

So do you see him managing another club? Juve seems the most likely?

And how will he be remembered if he doesn’t?

How strong is the Marseille loyalty? I could see PSG as an interesting option, but Juve at this moment in time with no money to spend, an ageing squad and imbalanced, is not the place to go. Could he go to a Spurs side that don't have money? Or could he take over the French National Team after the Euros?

He's just getting started.

Juventus next. He was already linked there before he returned to Madrid, if I recall correctly.

He shouldn't have returned there. Had a successful first stint and left at a correct time only to return and dampen his legacy.

does he want to be a top flight manager? It always appeared to me that he was managing Real out of loyalty - they asked and he said yes. It never appeared (to me at least), that he wanted to be a top manager.

He won the league last year after the terrible season RM had the year before and without Ronaldo. I think he has added to his legacy by coming back. He is in with a shout to win the league this year too.

Juve will be a natural destination. Not sure if he goes there immediately or perhaps after a break of a year.

He seems very settled in Madrid. He has always been very aware of the career of his children, and now Théo is doing well in youth A. It is said that he is the best of the four.
Maybe the job from France would be good for him, but does France really need a change?
I am sure that he would change the face of any team, due to the respect and competitive character that gives to the team.
It doesn't matter what your name is, if you don't train well Lucas Vázquez will play and you will go to the bench.
If he leaves, it would be the third time (counting as a player) that he leaves before the end of the contract, a honest man who generally knows how to sign

Tbf his second run in RM was not as good as his first run but it's hard to blame him when you lose one of the all time greats and your core team is declining. Not sure if there are many managers that would do a better job in those circunstances.

Some of the signings they did were atrocious as well but I guess Perez shares part of the blame in that area.

Without a doubt this is the weakest RM squad in the last decade but he still managed to win La Liga with them but failed to rebuild the squad.

Possibly Marseille when he's coming towards end of his coaching career as he's from there.

PSG will probably have a look at some point aswell.

Don't ever see him managing in premier league though.

Dampen what???? He literally won the league last season and has us fighting for the league again and got to a CL semfinal

If anything his second stint only goes to show how important he was in winning everything we won the first time around

Nailed on for the Juventus job if or when Pirlo goes.
Good shout. The guy has won three CLs what sane team wouldn't hire him if they could. Behind pep and klopp he's probably the third best manager in the world.

Bit unfair for it to be considered Ronaldo's legacy and not Zidane's. We don't do that with SAF, Klopp, Pep so why Zidane?

Put it into perspective: cristiano has played 15 seasons since becoming a world class player in 06/07. In 12 seasons without zidane he won the CL twice. In 2 and 1/2 seasons under Zidane he won 3

Oh, and Zidane was the first assistant coach in one of those two other CL too!

Exactly. The guy simply does not get respect he deserves. Even if he retires tomorrow those are his trophies he doesn't owe them to the world.

Best indication yet Mbappe won't be going to Madrid I'd say.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a Zidane/Poch swap.

Don't rule Spurs out, if they give him Mourinho money that would be a huge pay rise.

Zidane's nailed on for Juve surely? Pirlo will be out in a few weeks and Zizou will be back to Turin.

It was always going to be impossible to sustain back to back Champions League wins. He's overseeing a rebuild but he's still won a league title and isn't far off this season either.

He's only "dampened" his legacy because he overachieved.

Well he'd still get a pay rise if you are talking in euros :). I thought he was on about half that for some reason, so my bad.

And hence I said there was no point to return as there was no way he could have achieved what he achieved in his first stint. I don't mean to say his second stint has been a flop, he has done decent but it was always too risky to return.

I really don't get how he dampened his legacy.

He'll be back at Madrid in a year or two I'm guessing.

I very much doubt that, seeing as he won the league title with basically the same team minus Ronaldo.

Basically, if he never manages again (unlikely I’d say), he still has a place in history, especially because he was such a good player. He’ll be thought of as one of those all round great figures of the game, like Cruyff and Beckenbauer.

Would you take him at City?
Not sure. Pep is like a really good party, you enjoy it while it lasts and try not to think about the fact that soon it'll be over and the aftermath is going to suck. Whoever we get after Pep, it's going to be a downgrade, which is why I think we might favour someone like Kompany where expectations will be lower.

The question is whether he'd succeed at another club which is difficult to answer. He's a great coach with his set up and tactics but he's also a serial waster of talent. You can get away with that at Madrid, not so much at other clubs.

Just an impression, but I think he values living in Spain over a long managerial career.

Of course he would.

Actually the second Madrid stent proved that he's a great manager. He won the league and is still challenging till the last week for the current one and reached CL semi with an overall a very poor squad with barely 4 or 5 reliable players.

In fact if he leaves I can see the next Madrid manager failing massively to deal with their current circumstances imo. Zidane is the only manager who can deal with their current shit.

He's won La Liga on his return which given Madrid's record over the last decade is a great achievement. CL wins are supposed to be a rarity.

Spurs need a new manager
What incentive does he have to even consider Spurs? They have no CL football, the players are not half as good as those at Madrid, he’ll have to deal with Levy and their biggest rivals are.. Arsenal.

He’s not a small time manager looking to make a name for himself. He’s won CL more than the number of times Spurs have even gotten to that competition.

Unless he’s getting silly money and he gets to spend a huge chunk of money, him going to Spurs is just not realistic.
