His legs always look a little short to me and these sorts of things can make a difference at this level. Can be the difference between making and not making a last ditch tackle.

That being said I’d probably still take the risk if he can be got for 10m-ish as it allows us to focus on other areas. Seems desperate to come to us as well which I always like.
Thank God Irwin and Evra had such massive legs.

As usual Cafe has no idea about outside of epl. Trippier is a starting RB for the potential champions of Laliga but won't fit us as a competition to AWB.

He would be a great buy for less than 10m.

+1

The only thing that's a bit annoying is that his role here would normally be filled by a more senior member of the squad - someone who's on the decline physically but can provide mentorship, act as cover, use his experience in high pressure situations. A bit like what Mata / Matic do right now.

As it stands though, if AWB picks up a hamstring injury, we're basically fecked.

I've seen a lot of reasons on here not to sign a player. Tiny legs is a first though.

Good positioning can trump having midget legs if it stops you from having to make a last ditch tackle in the first place.

Strange angle to take when the bloke has 7 or 8 years of PL football under his belt on which to be judged.

I think a good quality backup RB would be a very prudent move given that our only other option in the position at the moment is Williams, who has looked like a deer in the headlights any time he's been given minutes lately. We'd be fecked if Wan-Bissaka picked up any kind of lengthy injury. If Trippier is available on the cheap as Telles was and wouldn't be on huge wages, I don't see a downside to this.

Would add great depth and attacking creativity at RB

Some of the comments slating this one Jesus wept. We don't have an endless budget if you can get Trippier cheap and prioritise other positions great.

Yeah I am all for bringing him in to deputise for AWB or come on and give us something more attacking at times

He is a good player and I always rated him but, he isn't physical enough or fast enough to be playing at a top side in the PL, he gets absolutely roasted by fast strong players

Wouldn't mind this if we can do a deal for a reasonable fee. We need to bridge the gap between Wan-Bissaka and the other RBs at the club - Williams isn't good enough and Dalot was always lax defensively. An injury to Wan-Bissaka would leave us in a difficult predicament as it has with Maguire.

Obviously other positions take precedence though.

Even if you don't particularly rate Trippier (and I don't) there's definitely sense in bringing in a cheap-ish RB for squad composition. I don't particularly rate Telles either but there's still obvious value in having him here.

Look if we are not going to being Dalot back and laird and williams are going to be loaned out then we could do with a right back as cover... Im just not sure somebody who is starting most games for Athletico - and about to be only the 3rd english player to win la liga will fancy leaving Madrid to be back up / rotation in Manchester.

As you say its good we have telles as cover for shaw and personally Id be happy with Dalot or Williams as cover for AWB next season (I think Laird for sure needs another season on loan) but if we have to bring somebody in then lets go for somebody who will be happy as cover for a couple of years as one of the other 3 develops and certainly somebody who wont cost much

The people crying about this deal will be the same ones moaning about bringing Cavani in last season.

Would be an equally excellent signing in my opinion.

Exactly.

He starts for a side who are probably better than us, and about to be crowned La Liga champions. Let's not pretend he's rubbish.

Definitely feel like having him to provide competition for AWB will have a similar effect to Telles on Shaw

Good points but with the number of games we play, he could get 25 or 30 starts.

Full back is demanding (if 100% effort goes in) and AWB would benefit from both the competition and the rest.

If we can get him, I think we should but it will surprise me if we do.

Love it when English players act like adults and move overseas. It’s so rare.

It’s no mean feat being a defender that’s trusted by Simeone. He’s a great right back and I’m pleased for him.

Would love this one to happen. It’s one that just makes a lot of sense if the fee is reasonable. Lots of experience. His best attribute is AWB’s weakest so compliments him nicely. And I think he’s a red isn’t he.

Yes please.

Am I the only one who thinks he's completely shite and wouldn't want him anywhere near the squad? I'd sooner bring Dalot back as a backup if that's the route we want to go. He was largely average to poor at Spurs and is now playing in an incredibly poor and low-intensity La Liga. Amazed at someone above saying he's anything like Cavani. Cavani was a world-class player who performed everywhere he's been. Trippier by comparison has achieved pretty much nothing and never been near the same tier of player. I think this will be a poor move and we will be moving him on as deadwood in a years time.

I’m not a fan but he’s better than Dalot. A lot better.

Massively underrating of him. Genuinely baffling to prefer Dalot as backup. He's always been a solid player. He's being bought as a smart backup for cheap. Loads of experience, and would add much more to our attack.

He's obviously not completely terrible. He's played in a World Cup semi final, a Champions League final and has won the Spanish League this season. The Spanish league is still clearly the second best in Europe. You can't achieve that if you're 'shite'. He's better as a wing back though, where his lack of pace isn't exposed as readily.

Yeah, quite bizarre considering the effect we've seen Telles have this season.

As a back up RB, whose strengths lie in the attacking aspects of the role, I can't think of many better. He's what, 30? He'll give us around 3 years of service and we could have a 21-22 yo Laird potentially come through and take over.

Yeah a RB who is decent on the ball and has good delivery for a reasonable fee would really be a good move for us. Would enable us to spend more elsehwere too
