Started it's second series run yesterday. Absolutely fecking hilarious! The comedic timing between Steve Coogan and Susannah Fielding is just on point. His complete lack of self awareness and her long suffering patience makes for some seriously cringeworthy TV....and it's fecking glorious!

Fielding plays it so straight that she's absolutely hilarious, even without saying a word. Great to have it back. I'm all in!

The joy in this program isn’t in the script, it’s subtle reactions and facial expressions between shots. Some of which are just perfect.

That's what I mean. Fielding's expressions are just priceless. And that first woman they were interviewing about body language was just perfect.

Future criminal-Nero Costa!

It's very hit and miss but still worth it for the odd bit of brilliance.

Thought the second ep was an improvement on the first.

My favourite bit of the entire series is when he kneels down during his body language monologue and his knees make that crunching noise. It's the little things like that that make it so much funnier.

I think I'm such a blind fan of Partridge that I'll convince myself I love it even if I don't.

Yet to see it mind. Anyone know where I could catch up on it from Ireland?

That bit where he asks the bloke if his tattoo was Gerry Adams and he said no it's jesus is still cracking me up now.

I watch it in this frame of mind. I don't care about making an objective analysis of it's quality i just love the character so enjoy it.

Nearly every tv show and film is shit according to most threads in the entertainment forum.

I don't buy the conceit at all; why would anyone leave him on the air when he's fecking up this badly every single day?

As a set of sketches it's fine, some of them are brilliant. I really enjoy Alan locking horns with the woman who always contradicts him and agrees with his co-host.

The Matt Smith cameo was kinda pointless. You could clearly see him reading off cue cards at one point, too. Felt a bit amateurish.

Not really loving this season so far. It’s still fun, but I feel he’s really hamming up the performance... it’s like when a famous musician has been playing the same song live for so long he keeps trying to be weird and quirky with it, when everyone just wants him to play the fecking song how it is on the album.

The Matt Smith stuff was a bit weird. Largely because it was Matt Smith playing a role that didn’t remotely need to be played by Matt Smith. Would’ve probably been funnier if he was actually just playing Matt Smith.

It’s not great really. If the character didn’t have a lot of goodwill there’s no way he’d have got a second series.

Yeah I'm the same, obviously TV is subjective but it is enjoyable for me and it's not the kind of show I'd particularly analyse loads it's just a light entertainment comedy show. I get some stuff is stupid etc but it works in the show.

I mean they've gone over the top on it because it is meant to be funny but there's plenty of TV presenters who are pretty shit at their job and always put their foot in it but still get gigs. Richard Madeley was on Good Morning Britain a few years ago and got a cult following for being very much like Partridge and they kept bringing him back since it obviously got them attention.

The Matt Smith stuff whilst random or whatever could of just been a case of him being a big fan and wanting to be in the show it does have a huge cult following and he is of the age where he'd of grown up with Alan Partridge on TV.

Two words: Piers Morgan.

It's mildly amusing but if we are being honest it doesn't compare to previous Partridge series. The ones where he's living in the Hotel and then also where he's in the Static Caravan are simply out on their own. Nothing else he's done with the character has come close to those. I just wish he'd have made more like that.

The quality was always going to be lower when Armando Ianucci stopped writing it.

It's not as good as those at all but to say nothing in the Partidge canon has come close to them since is just bang wrong.

Mid Morning Matters is amazing and from recent stuff so are the books (first one especially) and the podcast.

The books are well worth listening to the audio versions of. Spent many a commute in the past trying to stop laughing out loud with my headphones in.

You don't really have to analyse it to realise that it's a bit wank compared to the other Partridge output. Even Simon is a bit shit in this but he's great on Mid Morning Matters.

I must have missed the GMB ep where Morgan was pissed muttering about Susanna's pay packet. I know what you and @Oggmonster are saying about cringey middle-aged hosts like Morgan and Madeley being weird shoe-ins for magazine shows but surely Alan would be too much of a loose cannon for the BBC?

Regardless there's some very good bits and bobs; Coogan and the Gibbs' are obviously having a ball imagining Alan in this kind of bright and breezy TV format.

The podcast is absolutely brilliant.

The new series of course does not compare to the best ones, but I guess expectation comes into it. I was unaware of it until 2 episodes in seeing people talking about it on here. Felt like a nice treat.

Scissored Isle is up there for me. The supermarket sketch alone is my all time favourite.
