Very disappointing night, this is not the time to point fingers.

We didnt do enough in 90 minutes to win and we were 2nd best in extra time.

DeGea should be good enough to save 1 out of 11 pens but he didnt look close. Would hendo have done better? No one can say.

People screaming for subs but not enough game changers on the bench.

well done villareal they were solid, stuck to the game plan and we just didnt have enough quality to break them down On the night.

gutted but thats football.

Let in a soft set-piece and couldn't save even 1 of the 11 penalties faced. Thanks Dave for the services but it's time to say goodbye!

Rashford needs to be scoring that chance in the 2nd half of normal time, really.

Why De Gea was on to save penalties I will never understand. He's the worst goaltender in Europe at it.

I am so heartwrenchenngly gutted. I'll take a week or two break from this place and football.

One of the highest paid keepers who can’t save a pen or look like he was trying.

Plus note, being in pot B looks like you'll miss a lot of the bigger clubs in the UCL group stage next season than being in pot A

Proud of the boys for having the bottle to take those pens especially Axel.
Lack of depth cost us and a defensive mistake . We can say Maguire would have cleared it but we’ve made that error this season far too often. Lindelhof is so weak. Villarreal defended with all their might and were better there.

Cant say they deserved it but when it comes down to a shootout anything can happen. Shame it had to be someone but let’s not castigate DDG

Rashford shouldnt have played or stayed on the pitch so long. He clearly was offering nothing.

We lost momentum completely in extra time and I feel with better squad management we could have seen this through.

Well played Emery on his 4th EL. Epic stuff. Perfectly executed game plan against us.

The penalties were excellent, this is on Ole, Bailly and Lindelof were both shite and everybody saw how much Lindelof struggled at LCB the other week, yet despite Axel's good performances of late in the LCB role he leaves him out. Then Rashford is horrendous for 120 minutes and stays on, it's like he's afraid to upset the golden boy.

So disappointing, we had a decent period in the second half but faded and Ole had no answer to their tactics and no trust in the likes of Van de Beek and Amad.

We should have beaten them second half, when it was one way traffic.

11-10 on penalties is just heartbreaking, but well done to both sides for scoring so many under that pressure.

Ole will know be castigated for making substitutions earlier; however, one kick of the ball from the penalty spot and nobody would have cared. He must now answer those questions.

Ole needs to be shown the door. Poch might be available as PSG might go for Zidane. It is the right time to.appoint Poch.

Can someone please explain why we didn’t use our first sub until 100 minutes?

This is on Ole for a lack of tactics.

We’ve played McFred the majority of games this season, Pogba on the left since Martials injury has had he’s best games IMO so what does Ole do...he drops Fred so he can shoehorn Rashford and Greenwood on and puts Pogba in CM and he played shit.

Rashford has been shit for half the season and the only thing he did tonight was score a pen but then so did all the other outfield players.

De Gea for me is finished, forget the pens he is just not fast enough to throw the balls out and start off counters which we are good at when we want.

OLE OUT!

Henderson and Tuanzebe start tonight and we don’t concede and no one can convince me otherwise, Bailly and Lindelof should NEVER start together and with De Gea behind them it was basically a triangle of terror and we deserved to lose.

Stop crying babies and fecking back the manager and players.
No one has a right to win anything
A bad manager doesn’t have the right to stay employed either, what an ignorant post. Why would I back a manager I have zero faith in? And that’s with or without a win in this cup we do not for the life of us want to participate in.

I won't be too hard on the lads tonight, could they have done more? Yes.

What lost us the match was Ole's stubbornness in making a sub. The match could have been won in extra time but we did feck all because we were knackered.

De Gea let down everyone on penalties and not because he missed either.
Who could we have subbed? James? Mata? We went with our strongest available.

Massive loss of face for Ole. SAF would've blasted this group of players at halftime and the game would never have gone to Extra Time.

Rashford should've been taken off at halftime, move Pogba to left and bring on Van de Beek. Also, bring on Amad on the right after 90 minutes, 'cos our attack from the right side was abysmal. Wan Bissaka tried hard.

Cavani would be reconsidering staying back after this loss. A trophy would have made such a big difference to the end of the season.

Major missed opportunity for Ole and the team to prove their mettle against a La Liga team that's so far below the pecking order.

Happy to see that every outfield player of ours scored their penalty.

But, we all knew DDG isn't gonna save a penalty, nor were we confident about him scoring one.

Gutted to the core. Was expecting an easy win.

Boohoo, boring mickey mouse cup final. If we had won the shootout I'm not sure I'd be celebrating at all.

Rashford missing a clear goal chance is one reason we lost, another is obviously the lack of subs. In 99 games we Will beat Villareal, but you could see their huddle in the second half of ot and feel their conviction and willingness to do anything for the win. I got a feeling from the united players that it was more "meh".

What can you say? This team just refuses to win a trophy. Questionable mentality, there are very few, if any, born winners in the side. Ole's game management has been an issue from the start and I've given up all hope of improvement in that area.

That's it for this season. It was decent at some points but we limped to the finish and once again failed whenever we got close to silverware. It's hard to be overly optimistic about the future of this team at the moment.

DDG can feck off.

Ole didn't lose the match. A 1-1 is a draw, not a defeat, last time I checked out.

When your GK is unable to save a single penalty out of 11, and misses his shot, you know he needs to feck off from this club. Aloof looking has-been.
Clutching at straws there mate. Whos going home without the trophy and whos name is on it as winners?

Of course let’s all blame Ole.

Shocking forum
If you and others like you are so fecking clueless and cannot see it's 99% down to the manager today, I suggest you go to a netball forum because that's where you fit in in terms of football knowledge.

I can't see any positives tonight. The only positive would be Ole being sacked before he gets to the airport.

No coaching ability, no game management, no tactical nous. Relies on individual brilliance alone. We'd be fecked without Fernandes.

You think not taking Fred off v’s PSG was his biggest error. Then he basically fecks the whole match with one big 120 minute error. He shat himself good and proper tonight...thinking the players can just perform on fumes for extra time.

Don’t get me wrong the players were terrible with special mention to Rashford who stank the place out and Pogba consistently giving it away needlessly. With the rest of the team out fought and half a yard off the pace all night.

Pathetic.

Penalties are always a lottery. Anyone can score and miss. Heck I would most definitely miss but I may also score.

Pathetic no excuses should have won in the 90 mins. Having a technically inept manager costs us again in a big game. Wake the feck up and sign a fecking proper manager.
This is confrontational but your 100% right he’s completely clueless and now has to go !
why not because, we know he loves the club but because better managers who have won the Premier League and recently won a domestic league are available, Zidane will be available but if we want trophies at any cost we need to go get Conte and bring him back to haunt city, Liverpool and Chelsea only then Will our team be feared again !!
And he will not tolerate inept performances he’ll allow a full squad to play and genuine competition for places, tired team tonight who played to much football because our Manager can’t make decisions the first 11 decide who and how we play , time to move on ole !

Rashford limping on the stage! Ridiculous. These players should wear they’re runners up medals with pride. Didn’t want to play like winners but quick to take your medal off?
