Would happily see Rashford do the same, even though I want England to do well. Just feels he needs a rest and a chance to recover, even more than Mason.

I think it’s a shame, Rashford needs the rest. Mason should be fine, and the experience might have been beneficial for him.

It’s great news as far as I’m concerned. Greenwood’s time will come at which point he’ll be more established, plus the way Southgate treated him after the Iceland incident was poor.

feck England, he wouldn't have played and he's 100% in the ready made scapegoat category.

Only gutted that he can't share the experience, but to be honest there's a World Cup in 18 months that he should be starting to peak for.

I'd be quite happy for none of our main players to go to the Euros this summer, they all desperately need rest. This will be great for us, Mason will get a summer off and a proper preseason to hit the ground running next season.

I am happy with him not going. I hope Rashford does the same. These guys need rest/surgery plus the World Cup is next year anyway. No shame in missing out on the asterisk Euros.

It fecks us if either of them got a really bad injury like ACL on international duty.

I was looking forward to seeing Mason for England as because I would only have Kane in front of him when it comes to finishing in that squad and when it comes to squeaky bum time good finishers are priceless.
Hope he gets over his injury soon and comes back bigger and better and primed for next season.

He'd have been a benchwarmer anyway. Plenty more opportunities on the international stage to look forward to.

Happy to see Mason withdraw and recover from whatever injury he has and be ready for next season, England do not need him, not even as backup since they got plenty of attacking players available for selection (Kane, Sancho, Sterling, DCL, Watkins, Foden, etc...)

Shame if it is an actual injury and not just cover from being dropped.

England stand a decent chance this time so missing out on a trophy would be a big deal for him.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
Same as all the above.

Not bothered, club before country for me. I'd say Rashford seems even more needing of a rest, fine if does the same thing.

Also, the Foden/Greenwood incident ... still feels like there was no intervention/man management of the aftermath from Southgate. Not saying don't do anything (punishment) but felt like he distanced himself too much and left to their own devices.

England will be fine... they've got Sterling and Kane. Both in great form

"like a man in silk pyjamas shooting pigeons
Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from the provisional England Euro 2020 squad, in order to recover fully from an underlying injury that also kept him out of the Under-21 European Championship in March," a club statement said.

"Mason's club appearances were managed carefully to maintain his availability through the intensive 2020/21 Premier League and Europa League schedules. But a further spell of tournament football would not be beneficial and Mason will remain at Manchester United to recuperate and prepare for pre-season training."
Makes you wonder what sort of performances we can expect from him when entirely injury free (see also Marcus Rashford)

Pretty gutted as both a Utd and England fan. It's positive that he will come into next season fit and ready but he could have had a real impact for England this summer and that might have given him a confidence boost heading into next season. He just needs to keep his head down now and I expect there will be no debate whatsoever about his inclusion next year.

The above is part of United's statement. I fully support it but don't understand why they haven't managed Rashford's injury as carefully.

I do think the same. Career wise it's a very reasonable decision by Mason.
Rashford should be doing the same.

It sucks for him, but he's a young player and in the long term, it's better for his career if he doesn't risk worsening whatever injury he has. He has more tournaments to come, like the next world cup, by which time hopefully England realize they're wasting a great generation of players with Southgate.

Very good call from him. The amount of games we've played in the past year is insane. Pretty much in 11 months, United alone has played 75 competitive matches, with 2 of those going the full 120 minutes, and then 1 friendly against Villa, and then England national team (and likely the others) have played 11 international games in that time). So essentially, that's almost 87 games worth of minutes between June 19th 2020 and May 26th 2021. Game every 3.96 days for almost a full year, and the majority of our squad has had to deal with the full load (whether they should have been rotated is another matter), but the likes of Bruno, Maguire, Rashford and Pogba especially will need an extended break and could do with skipping the Euros, though they never will. So to account for that they should probably take July and August off and come back slowly in September.

I'm glad we've pulled him out of the England squad. Give him time to rest and then have him hit the gym ready to rumble with CBs next season as Cavanis understudy.

It really has been an insane season year hasn't it. It's amazing how fit these guys are nowadays.

The likes of Maguire and AWB especially really deserve credit for their insane records. Any future season will feel like a walk in the park.

Great news, young talented player with loads of tournaments ahead and best to get on top of any injuries early

Call me cynical but sounds like a PR exercise after he was quietly told he'd be dropped. Why wait till squad announcement day? Anyway annoying as a England fan but can hardly complain as a United fan.

Who else are the others? Except for AWB ,Fred Cavani and Greenwood, pretty much everyone is going anyway?

Why would anyone bother with that? It was always debatable whether he was going to be selected or not.

Not for a couple of seasons unfortunately! Euros this summer between June and July, next season kicks off a month later on August 14th until May 22nd. Normal enough schedule however the 22/23 season will likely start earlier I'd imagine so there will be a much smaller gap between seasons, due to the World Cup being from mid November to late December in Qatar in 2022. So an earlier start (mid July probably) combined with a late finish (mid June probably), which means 23/24 will either get delayed or not enough of a pre season.

These players really need a union so it's not so easy to change the fixture list to feck them over but also to control wages better.

Rashford looks more “injured” to me, why hasn’t he been withdrawn too?

With a bit of luck Maguire will miss it, it's feasible Rashford will too as he's been playing injured all season. I imagine Shaw will go, but hopefully Chilwell gets played over him after the CL final which means less exertion.

In an ideal world Bruno would miss it as well but that's unlikely to happen.

Southgate had no intention of taking him. His inclusion in the 33 man provisional squad was nothing more than a publicity stunt. Forgive and forget and all that jazz. His handling of Greenwood since day one has been appalling. Ole has treated Mason with kid gloves, unlike Southgate who threw him to the wolves. His first inclusion in the squad he did a press conference before even making his debut. He roomed with another young lad in Foden. Yes he messed up, but it's terrible, naive management. Now, he has an injury. Terribly convenient. I won't be watching any of their games this Summer.

I'm really happy he misses out tbh, having the summer off will do him good, everyone has played too much so any benefit we can get that great.
Rashford by the looks of him won't play much tbh.

People keep saying that, but cant justify it.
England had him in press conferences answering questions about Maguire's arrest. There's a reason why United have protected him and kept him away from the media as much as possible. Southgate threw him under the bus.
