Trippier would be more akin to Cavani overtaking Martial rather than Telles understudying Shaw.

£20m seems a lot to me when other areas are in dire need of improvements

Is Laird not ready yet?

Wouldn’t be awful move. Read we’re thinking of trying AWB at centre back

I can't imagine it's true about AWB

he's never played there and he doesn't have the right attributes for the role

He's just had his first injury-free run in more than 3 years and was in League One.

I rate him very highly and have almost zero doubts that long-term he'll be the RB at this club but he needs another loan this season. Preferably one in a Championship team who won't deploy him as a wingback.

If he aces that assignment then we can be looking at him potentially joining up with the squad.

you're probably right but part of me hopes Ole just takes a chance on him next season

Wasn't there nonsense last pre season about us playing Rojo in DM.

It's from the same guy that's linked us with buying Oblak and Sam Johnstone in the last few weeks. He has no idea.
Exactly. The fact that we're quite clearly in the market for a CB should be enough to quell those rumours.

After 25 games for MK Dons in league 1? No. Fullback takes a long time to be "ready" for. Wouldn't count him as anything for a few years at best.

I would personally like to see AWB at CB. Along side a ball player like Maguire he could just mop up behind him. He's not a good header of the ball from set pieces but the pros outweigh the cons for him at CB.

If we had a better attacking RB then imo, AWB as a backup there, or as a rotational CB option then I can't see a problem.

Let’s just play people in their proper positions shall we.

I’m sure we’ve had Fred at left back, Shaw in midfield, now AWB at centre half…

We have one RB. We can sign another without having to move the one we have into a position we have 15 players for already and will be signing another.

The Sun have "proof" of this by saying: "Manchester United are thinking of playing Aaron Wan-Bissaka at centre-half in a defensive reshuffle"

Would be an utter farce, given what I see as AWB's dreadful positional sense
Wouldn’t believe a single word that rag of a paper says. They could tell me it’s currently raining and I’ll still look at my window to see for myself if it is

Trippier may be a weakness defensively but he's certainly going to pen teams back in their own half a lot more than Wan Bissaka does. Right now it's so clear to see the opposition just give AWB all the space he needs because they know he needs 50 touches to get a meaningful play together.

and if it is, phone them so that they edit it to say it's 100F and sunny

Imagine how underwhelming it'll be from us, who typically net spend about 60-80m absolute max a summer, to bone 20m or more on a reserve right back.

Trippier came on for Shaw at left back today.
That’s 2 England games in a row he’s featured at LB.

Where was he playing for AM?

Playing AWB at CB is just asking to be fired...I can see the sense in signing Trippier if the fee is around 15 million. Ole needs to options he can trust to rotate, otherwise we'll just end up as beat as this past season.

I dunno he’s the best tackler we have maybe
CB's dont statistically make that many tackles. More aerial duels, blocks and clearances. DM's and FB's are the ones who put up big tackling stats. AWB's skillset is more like a destructive DM like Ndidi.

I don't think they are good enough though. I really think we need to sell Williams whilst he has some value and Laird is an injury prone player who has had an OK loan in League One.
Having pressure on his position made Shaw into a much better player. I'm sure the club want something similar with AWB.
I don't think they are. Neither of them is likely to push AWB for playing time, or be relied on in anything other than emergencies, dead rubbers and cup games.
Perhaps on both counts, but I just don't see why Trippier would want to come back to England for a bit part role when he's in the prime of his career age wise and has just become a title winner. I think we should be setting our priorities elsewhere at other more important positions.

He's a childhood Manchester United fan from Greater Manchester. There are reports that he's keen to move back to home.

Pretty much every team has 2 quality full backs. He won't be a backup. He will start a share fare of games .

He really struggles tracking his man and winning headers when he covers Lindelof's areas. I'd be concerned if it were true.
I'd be horrified. We might as well try and make Dan James a CB, because the end result is going to be quite similar.

Really? He sure can tackle but there is much room for improvement in other areas before he can be considered one of the best in the league.
And you think AWB can only tackle? He might not be TAA on the ball, but he is easily top 3 RB in the league.

AWB would be an awful CB.

You do not want one your CBs to be positionally suspect and rely on last ditch tackles. The risk of him fouling is minimised as RB.

He'd give away so many penalties at CB, and he'd completely ruin any chance we'd have of playing out of the back.

Don’t buy the AWB converted to CB talk. We’re simply making sure we have 2 quality players in every position. Ole has complained about squad depth. As he should.
Trippier would be great to rotate with AWB.

AWB at CB would just be a backup in extreme injury crisis imo. Maybe a sign that Matic or some of our fringe CB’s will be gone in the summer?

Wonder if he and his family have settled a bit more in Spain, these reports were around a year ago. Winning the league and being considered one of the best players can help.

Maybe stay out there just a couple more years then return on a free to a different club. Would be nice to sign Trippier, I've always rated him and was disappointed we didn't sign him from Spurs, has such super delivery from the right back we've been lacking but the time to do this was then and he was showing his skills in the world cup. I didn't think he was finished like a lot of Spurs and other fans but our loss is Atletico's gain, they saw what I did back then and congrats to them.

Maybe if he was down on his luck in Spain a move here to try and oust a £50m right back and do some support role would be tempting at your home club.
