Sultan is absolutely spot on here. It really is a ridiculous take on the whole picture. Some people believe that a club saddled with huge debt is in healthier state than a debt free one.
You are ignoring cashflows. Profit is good, but cashflow is far more important.

Loans are always used by businesses to sustain cashflows. A debt-free club is not necessarily healthier than a club in debt. If that club runs out of cash, it will go into liquidation.

Thank you for some sense, our debt obligation is very serviceable, manageable and should not provoke such hysteria. In an ideal world I'd like to see Glazers take no fees/dividends for 5 years and have that money put back into infrastructure and training facilities for a start.Any profit from a supporters share sale should go towards new players.
Yep. In an ideal word, we wouldn’t have the LBO debt to pay interest on and would be paying less dividends and reinvesting that in the club (whether infrastructure or the squad). But a club of this size would never be completely debt free if run properly.

also correct on the shares. As a new class, it would be the club selling those shares (they’re new - the glazers don’t owe them to sell them) and the proceeds will go to the club, not the glazers, and the new issuance would dilute their ownership and thus reduce the value of their shares. If the proceeds are appropriately invested, the Glazers’ shares (and all the public shares) may increase in value, but likely not materially more than the decrease in value due to the dilution.

Lots of misconceptions in this thread.

The club has gone up from 1bn when they bought it to easilly 4bn now.

That's why they're a billionaire and we're not
Great for them but;

not sure you’re aware how close their gamble came close to falling in the early years.

not sure you realise how £50m a year interest , on a business that at the time was turning over £100-180m a year was incredibly reckless, dangerous and could easily have flopped.

That’s the same type of reckless gambling that lead to the 08 financial crisis. That the Glazers were successful is less about them because they don’t do anything, they don’t negotiate our sponsor deals that since 2013 have increased our revenue. The only thing they have actively done and negotiated as owners was the ESL, how did that turn out?

To save you the trouble of reading the Daily Mail; they're reporting £11 million being spent on new floodlights for Old Trafford and Carrington, new pitches and new facilities for the men's and ladies' teams at both, plus 1,500 rail seats, home and away dressing room upgrades at OT, and a contactless ticket system.

Nice to see some improvements but £11m is really the bare minimum that needs to be spent every year on infrastructure - for comparison Liverpool have spent around £200m on stadium expansion and training facitities in last 5 years

Ours is 118 million 2010 to 2020, so that 11 million isn't going address the problems and is indeed 118,000 less than the average of the previous decade.

'Since 2005, United have generated £5.9billion in revenue – by a considerable distance the most of any club in the country. That’s led to a £467million operating profit, but thanks to £817million payable interest, the club has actually made a net £92million loss'

Having cashflow and still ending up making a loss is still a problem, then add that to the debt and there's a real problem. United's cashflow isn't an issue, it's the owners debt and how they're managing it that's the issue.

Wasn't the rails thing planned since forever though? And in any case, isn't that also a cheap way to increase capacity?

The reason they're billionaires is because their daddy was a billionaire. Nothing begets more money than money itself. People are seriously overestimating the Glazers prowess. There is nothing to suggest that United's valuation wouldn't have increased similarly with alternative owners.

Quite true, but they were the ones who took advantage of the PLC's mismanagement (which was why the stock price was so low) so we'll never know.

Pretty standard, some fluff about how Joel has supposedly loved United this whole time in hiding which nobody believes.

Also - fecking hell that person bringing up being offended because Pogba and Amad walked around with a Palestinian flag and wanting the club to punish them pretty much  :houllier: fecking idiot.

I'm surprised this hasn't been bumped more with the minutes being released.

All the right things being said but the proof is in the pudding.
