Has anyone watched this yet?

As someone who's gradually lost interest in standup, I was taken aback by just how good this is. It's barely even standup.

I know very little about the rest of his material but I'm fairly sure that I've just watched the funniest, saddest, darkest, most thoughtful exploration of what it's meant to live through the past 12 months.

I know, total hyperbole but... It's just so good.

This has me interested. I’ve always found him extremely self aware and introspective and very conscious of the negatives of his own fame and how it impacts his ego/opinion of himself. Like “art is dead”. And then some of his jokes are so flippant. Like the club jam vine

Yeah, it's exactly that. Only through the lens of white male privilege/ art during the end of days... It's pretty bleak but very funny.

Gave it a watch, this type of comedy really isn't my sort of thing so it didn't get that many laughs but thought the presentation was interesting enough. He managed to do a lot with very little, so it's worth a watch for that.

He’s fantastic. ‘What’ is one of my favourite stand ups (if you can call it that).

Thought this was really good. He’s always been very introspective and struggled with his mental health and I thought it was sad he was ready to come back right before the pandemic hit.

Amazing what he could do just on his own though. He’s very talented.

Massive fan of his earlier specials, movies and just watching Promising Young Woman which is great so far.

Will watch this after, had no idea he had anything new out!

And I'm all out of bubblegum.
It's brilliant. It's definitely darkly funny as opposed to just funny, but it works.

Just the audio for this one, doesn't quite do it justice, but it's a great song:

Talented guy, interesting special.

Not actually that funny though, or at least doesn't seem to have being funny as the overriding aim. As other people have noted online, it's like a Father John Misty album as a comedy show.

I don't think you can call it stand up, not even quite sure whether it can be categorized at comedy... but it's rather brilliant, that's for sure. It's a nice mix of some topical shit playing on his mind, I imagine (white girl Instagram, Jeff Bezos...), his introspection about his role as a comedian (and the impressive self awareness he seems to have) and as an overarching point the impact of the past year. The mental deterioration that is shown throughout the 80mns of the special will hit close to home for more than one viewer I would imagine.

This guy is insanely talented, that's apparent, whether you like what he does or not. The quality of the production and the editing, the songwriting and the tunes (there's some absolute bangers in there), all of it is really impressive for a guy that has just hit 30 years old.

Seriously in awe with this. Stands completely apart from most of the content out there, and while it's not perfect by any means, it's bloody impressive.

Granted, I was so turned off him by his videos back in the day that I would never even go near a recent one to potentially have my views changed, but he was so genuinely unfunny to me back when he first started gaining popularity that I severely doubt anything could change my mind.

Can’t decide if this is incredible or crap. I mean it’s not funny, but then not sure if he is even trying to be funny. He does nail a lot of the things that are so weird with society and the way he has shot it is what I would imagine the inside of Phoenix Jokers head to be like.

”white woman Instagram” “sexting” so relatable. Overall I’m just not sure how I feel about this and kinda wish I was on drugs whilst watching it.

I take it as an amusing look at modern life through the lense of lockdown and thoroughly enjoyed it and appreciated it despite it not being laugh out loud stuff.

I find the over the top hype and praise a bit off putting. If it was a random find on Youtube I'd probably think it's very good.

Watched it at the weekend without having heard about him or the show before, it's pretty special stuff.

I love satire though and the tunes are catchy as feck.

I was the same tbh, I think there’s only one special that I like (his last one before Inside). I only really started taking note following his film Eighth Grade and all his interviews following that. There was also a round table he did with some superstar comedians way back when and he really held his own and was whip smart. His early songs are cringey, but he was very young. He’s now just turned 30 and he has matured immensely. There’s still some very silly stuff in this, but it actually is bloody amazing.

Ah, yes, the Green room. His first line was great, talking to the likes of Garry Shandling, saying something like, "speaking for all the younger people in here... who are you?"

Anyway, I agree this special was great, and at times moving, even if I didn’t laugh out loud much.
