Lindelof should be a 79 at most, but apart from that I agree with you on the rest 100% OP.

doing things a bit differently:
  • First # grade ——> what I felt the players top level capability to perform was heading into this year
  • Second # grade ——> how I feel said player played in correlation to their own capability by the end of this year
  • Last # grade = plus/minus or no difference in brackets (AKA players with bigger minus differentials show they underperformed more and the lesser, same, or positive differentials means they either underperformed slightly, played to their level, or exceeded my expectations of them by the end of this year)

DDG: 86 ——> 78 (-8)

...hoping I didn’t do any injustices but what I can say without doubt is this is what I truly personally felt as I went over this. Separated the players into 4 groups (goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders & attacking forwards/wingers). No biases or favouritism or hate, just thoroughly tried as best as I could with the criteria I laid out and decided to go with. Sort of puts things into perspective and really opened my own eyes as I went through it.

imo, De Gea-Martial-Lindelof were the biggest underperformers on the squad whereas on the flip side, Cavani+Shaw+trio of academy attackers had the most exceeded expectations. Everyone else for the most part either stayed at their level or slightly exceeded or underperformed.

My biggest takeaways/stories from this season’s evaluations,

- De Gea had an awful awful drop in form
- Henderson’s first season was a bit shaky, might have to do with the bigger spotlight but not worried yet with how talented he’s shown in his loan spell. Fully expecting him to bounce back and shake off the nerves
- Martial was underwhelming considering the stellar season he had the previous campaign
- Telles’ arrival really elevated Shaw’s game to a whole new level which I don’t think anyone expected
- Lindelof showed that he is not the long term starting CB partner solution to Maguire
- AWB slowly but steadily made offensive strides by learning to join the attack and support
- Cavani found the fountain of youth while simultaneously breaking the Ronaldo #7 curse, an absolutely spectacular season going above and beyond what anyone ever would have imagined

Like this, but AWB despite his defensive solidity (particularly in tackling), has several weaknesses this season.

I think he has improved attacking wise, but his defending this season, especially in set pieces and aerial prowess has been worrying so far.

At best he should 81, that's just because he is so good defending one on ones. If he is 85 like you mentioned, he should've been on the plane to Euros.

I’ve tried to do this broadly in line with FIFAs approach to ratings and then adjusted depending on how they performed this season:

1. De Gea : 77

3. AWB: 81
4. Luke Shaw: 86
5. Lindelof: 77
6. Maguire: 86
7. Fred: 78
8. Mctominay: 80
9. Pogba: 85
10. Bruno: 88
11. Martial: 79
12. Rashford: 84
13. Cavani: 84
14. Greenwood: 80
15. Dan James: 73
16. Amad Diallo: 71
17. Brandon Williams: 72
18. Eric Bailly: 78
19. Phil Jones: 75
20. Alex Telles: 80
21. Matic: 79
22. Mata: 77
23. Tuanzebe: 78
24. Donny Van De Beek: 77
25. Shoretire: 71

Have to say, I can't agree with Bruno being consistently rated above both Pogba and Rashford.

Over their careers the latter 2 have shown more, both at Utd and in football in general.

Every player must drop 10 points when representing England.

Also, any German or Spanish sides auto get +5 per player when playing in Europe competitions.

I think he’s such an expert in the defensive aspect of the game that it overrides a lot of what he lacks elsewhere and makes his rating high as a result of that. Similar to TAA as he’s so crisp offensively, you can say AWB in a sense is the inverse Trent.

Fair play if you don’t rate him as highly. My reason is due to his immense ability defensively. Start him and you just know the opposing teams LW won’t be causing many problems all game.

...as for the Euros bit, comes down to managerial preference. There have been lots of snubs currently and historically of quality players for one reason or another. By no means does it dictate how well a player is :)

Then you might as well follow football manager and look at their current ability (CA) and potential ability (PA) where PA is always higher or equal to CA at any time.

I think so :)
Some parts are sometimes better than the summary of the individual players.

United were comfortably second best team in the worlds best league. I don’t see how that’s possible with a team where most players aren’t 80+ on this scale.

Well at the moment we are in a situation where there just are not many good teams.

We are also not comfortably 2nd at all. Chelsea are arguably better with their new manager.

Well at the moment we are in a situation where there just are not many good teams.

We are also not comfortably 2nd at all. Chelsea are arguably better with their new manager.
It was quite comfortable, no one came really close despite the fact that we slowed down at the end and also played the kids. Before that the distance to Chelsea was about 10-11points which is the same as the day Tuchel took over after Lampard.

We were slowing down before we started playing kids. That's just nonsense.

I’m too old to know much about FIFA-ratings and what it actually means, but I sure as shit know Harry Maguire isn’t on the same level as Paul Pogba. For shame!

I’m not sure what you’re talking about. With four matches left we started playing the kids, and then you could see how the players were not really there 100% in the final games. Before that we were on par with Chelsea since Tuchel arrived.

5 of our last 7 games with a full lineup (maybe 1 player out) and a poor performance.

I’m really not following you. I wrote that our last matches, after we secured top-4, we either didn’t really bother or we played the kids (yes kids in two matches). But before those games, we were pretty much on par with Chelsea since Tuchel arrived.
I’m really not going to repeat this message any more now.

Not really. Chelsea had better results and knocked out City and Real Madrid to win the CL. We got made to look stupid by Villarreal.
