The fact that you can't take multiple vaccines is a downside. What if when the results are finally.peer reviewed, they aren't satisfactory? Remember that Brazil have already rejected Covaxin because of GMP protocols? Also those looking forward to foreign travel are going to find this to be a massive problem if WHO approval doesn't come. Some US universities are already not allowing students vaccinated with Covaxin or Sputnik to come in and asking them to be revaccinated.
I find this posturing ridiculous. Half the US population isn't vaccinated yet, but people here can't go to the US without having been vaccinated with their choice of vaccine?

I can understand some argument re Delta variant and so on, but ultimately it's unknown if the FDA approved vaccines work against the Delta variant either.

It's performative policy making and causing undue stress.

They are asking for WHO approved vaccines. Apparently even AZ and Covidshield are different according to WHO.

Covaxin was rejected because of manufacturing proctocols. Not because they don't believe the efficacy

Yeah I mentioned that in my post that Brazil rejected Covaxin because of GMP (Good manufacturing practice) protocols.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Really don't get what he's trying to say. He has said the right things a lot of the time but doesn't he understand that the hospital would levy a service charge on top of what they paid to procure the vaccine.

But I don't get this obsession with allowing private hospitals to procure 25% of the vaccine. It seems deliberate to make sure that the companies manufacturing the vaccines get their profit because the government isn't going to pay over the top so let them get their profits from the 25% sale to hospitals.

And ofcourse the government officials will get their cut in that as well to come up with this fecked up policy.

SII makes a profit when they sell to GoI at 150. Not “super profits” though.

there was a maharastra govt zoom call for doctors. Health min, CM, and some doctors were supposed to speak.
Uddhav appears on time, health min (from NCP) doesn't. after waiting 15 mins, Uddhav makes his speech, says sorry health min isn't there, and leaves. Whole event goes by without him showing up.

NCP isn't just corrupt and useless, they're also arrogant with a big sense of their own importance. Imagine a junior coalition partner making the CM wait.

Do you reckon they sent him to BJP as a Trojan horse?
Naa. BJP misread the whole situation in Bengal. The LS seats in 2019, led them to believe that they were ready to get the big prize. People didn't think so, yet.

The former chief secretary should have ended the article with "Give me one seat"?
:D

Meanwhile another ex-yogi bureaucrat (who was apparantly hand-picked by sasta vin Diesel) has been made CEC. Like I said, there must be elections coming :D

Even on Tuesday they vaccinated less than 10K. Such a ridiculous stunt to pull just for this kind of PR. It worked too.
Easy to pull off these stunts when you've ensured that majority of the population relies on TV news for their dose of information and you know they would rather question the opposition rather than the government

The absolute state of this government

https://scroll.in/article/998156/how-bjp-ruled-states-engineered-a-new-world-record-for-vaccinations

Madhya Pradesh vaccinated 16 lakh yesterday, and just about 700 on Sunday. I guess the vaccine providers needed the weekend off :wenger:
That’s absurd! Why is it that, to use the American term, “checks and balances” don’t constrain these obvious abuses of power? I understand that there is a lot of fanatical support for parties in India based on ethnicity, religion, geography etc
that can lead to some incompetent politicians being elected, but I don’t quite understand why the political system, the bureaucracy, the legal system etc. don’t punish / create disincentives for those sorts of choices once the politicians are actually there?

Nothing our countries politicians do shocks me anymore.
What still surprises me is how proper educated and normally sensible people just can't see through the governments antics, specially when it comes to the PM.

India always had the problem that the legal system and bureaucracy worked for the people in power, rather than act as checks and balances.
This govt came into power with ridiculous majority and completely annihilated any checks and balances by forcing their stooges to be in positions of power in every department. Thus eliminating any chance of being questioned.

The European Union's reluctance in accepting Indian-made vaccines for its 'vaccination passport' has triggered a face-off with New Delhi. Sources in the foreign ministry said India will begin a reciprocal policy when it comes to exemption from quarantine. This would mean that unless the European Union accepts Covishield and Covaxin certificates, their certificates will not be accepted in the country and people from EU will face mandatory quarantine upon arrival in India.

Documents Planted On Computers: New Report After Stan Swamy's Death
The report says Surendra Gadling's computer had been compromised over two years before he was arrested through emails that he received, and on which others like Stan Swamy were copied.

New Delhi: A day after activist Stan Swamy's death, a report from an American forensic agency claims that incriminating evidence was planted on the computer of Surendra Gadling, who, like the Christian priest, was arrested under a harsh anti-terror law for alleged links to the banned CPI(Maoist) group.

The report says Surendra Gadling's computer had been compromised over two years before he was arrested through emails that he received, and on which others like Stan Swamy were copied, raising the possibility that Mr Swamy's computer too may have been targeted. The 84-year-old Christian priest and Surendra Gadling are among 16 people accused in what is known as the Bhima-Koregaon case.

Till his death, Stan Swamy, like the others named in this case, had argued, including in his multiple bail applications, that the evidence presented against him of instigating a riot and of links to Maoist guerrillas was fabricated.

The latest Arsenal report, dated June 2021, analysed the hard drive of Surendra Gadling, 53, a Dalit rights activist based in Nagpur, finding even deeper proof of the planting of incriminating evidence.

"It should be noted that this is one of the most serious cases involving evidence-tampering that Arsenal has ever encountered," reads the report.

Arsenal, according to their website, has worked on a number of high-profile cases including the Boston Marathon bombing.

The report says his system was compromised for over 20 months between February 2016 and November 2017, and at least 14 incriminating letters planted on the computer by the same attacker who targeted Rona Wilson's system and planted 30 files there. The attacker who compromised Surendra Gadling's computer had extensive resources including time, according to Arsenal, and indulged in both surveillance and planting evidence.

The NIA refused to comment on the report, saying the matter is sub judice.
