Makes sense but we'll struggle to find a buyer who'll pay a reasonable fee to go with his ridiculous wages. Martial is done here now that Cavani is staying and we're looking to sign Sancho.

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
He is still at Chelsea? For all Chelsea's dealings at u21 levels, you retain some players too late into their 20s.
It's always a bit of a gamble. Overall it's a huge benefit to the club otherwise they wouldn't do it.

From a fans point of view it's kinda fun because whenever there's a televised game, chances are there's a Chelsea loanee involved!

Makes sense. We finally sort out some squad depth for the front three positions and sell one of them. Then we basically face the same situation as this season. One gets injured and we’re down to Ole refusing to rest anyone because he won’t trust the likes of James and Amad.

Clearly we don’t get to see the issues going on in training though and I’m pretty confident that’s one of the things that Ole is good at dealing with.

Im not getting my hopes.

Who'd really want to pay £40 million and the hefty wages for an unmotivated player?....

Nothing is so common as the wish to be remarkable.

Player sales does seem to contribute nicely to your yearly finances. City is firmly in same direction on the scale of things.
Agree on fans POV, and exposure for club.
It can be sort of a balancing act i would imagine for clubs to successfully manage it.

I don't understand how fans can summarily accuse a player of having a bad attitude when they have never met the said player in person. You have no idea if he has a bad attitude.
It’s called watching and reading a players attitude and application on the pitch.

I don’t need to know Martial personally, you can see his lack of effort, lack of running, no chasing back when he’s lost the ball for the hundredth time, just the usual head to the sky whilst walking around bullsh*t (which frankly if you haven’t witnessed yourself then your either selectively ignoring it or simply not watching the games.)

It’s obvious, called it years ago and according to Castles his attitude is the problem. Not exactly a hard call to make when you watch him on the pitch.

No issues with selling him if we are buying a striker along with Sancho but no need to make bs about him struggling with competition .
You think that's bs about him struggling? Man did you see any of our games at the time?

When Mou came and bought Zlatan, Martial was sad because he wasn't gonna play as a striker and Zlatan got no9. Then Mou's 2nd season he couldn't (didn't want?) compete with THAT Alexis. And finally this year he was abysmal and he couldn't compete with the 34 year old Cavani. What more do you want?

Overall he had 2 great seasons (his first one and last year) and 4 mediocre to shit.

Martial is class. If he goes to a top team he will bag 18+ goals easy if he keeps fit. He is another victim of United being sht and not utilizing their players properly and not appreciating them like Pogba. Rashford---Martial---Sancho can be a thing of beauty if they are all on form. Whats the point of selling him for what 40 mill? Swap with Kane or Haaland or Mbappe then ok. But not for sht money, its not worth it

All teams bar City and PSG have to make sacrifices to build a better squad.

Two players I don’t mind going to help us build a better squad are martial and pogba.
Its funny that you say that because I'm sure Lukaku said in an interview that Pogba and Martial are the reason for there being cliques in the squad.

I think the time is right,

He’s still young and you should be able to get 30-40m for him in today’s market, he will never make it here as a consistent performer, his talent is undeniable but his attitude and focus to improve doesn’t seem to be there which is a shame,

He won’t be missed tbh

Seriously, no one is going to pay anywhere near £40 million for Martial in a covid-affected financial climate.

Why? Genuinely why? Is our team that awful, toxic, flawed that we've stopped him being the player he could be? I don't get why there would such strong belief that he'd flourish elsewhere.
None of the above.

I just have a feeling he's going to be a star player at some point in his career. It seems unlikely it's going to be with us, though.

Where the grass is greener.
If a manager can unlock the player we saw against City last season, along with his finishing from when he could finish, there's obviously a potentially brilliant player there. It won't be here though.

I'm utterly convinced Martial will be a huge success wherever he goes this summer.
Depends on where he goes, he may thrive if he goes to the right club but should he go to someone like Arsenal or Spurs for example I can see just more of the same

I'm not sure where who I'd say would be a good club for him tbh, Dortmund maybe?

Said this in the martial performance thread last night.

Give him one more year. He was playing promisingly before he got injured again. He’ll be like a new signing and all that jazz. He seriously needs to sort out his movement and work rate and I’d say next season is probably his last chance with ole.

The thing is he has 4 goals and 6 assists in the league and was injured twice and suspended. 1500 mins. If he managed to stay fit despite some of his worst form here he’d have most likely gotten in around the same ballpark as Rashfords numbers (11 goals and 11 assists in double the minutes) I personally feel like there currently isn’t as much between the two players as some people think apart from public perception and being likeable. The truth is neither is in great form or working hard enough off the ball and Cavani ended up showing them both up for work rate and desire last season.

Maybe patience really has run out at the club and certain fans are right about his attitude. On the other hand his output just seems par for the course around here these days.

Bollocks, Aston villa just paid that for Buendia.

I thought Lukaku was a complete loner - and frankly because he was a tit.

all the players say Pogba is great around the training ground.

Six seasons at the club, two have been good. That’s no sort of return. Im in no rush to sell - let’s upgrade him first then sell him when they’ve settled - but if he stood in the way of other transfers then he can have no complaints if we move him on.

and how much are his wages over the next 4 years? The transfer fee is only 1/2 the cost.
He's about half the player as well. Martial didn't have a good season this year, but racked up 20 goals the season before and started to break into a very strong France squad. The notion we wouldn't get 30m+ is mad and only something our self loathing fans would think.

I would keep him unless he is really not putting the required effort in training. If the motivation and the right attitude isn’t there, then sell him.

I actually think he plays better when he is not being picked by France.
