Summer 21

IN:
- Sancho 78m
- Varane (hope it's him) / CB 55m
- RB Back up 20m
SOLD:
- Pereira (loan with sell-on) 1m loan fee + ?m option
- Dalot (same) 1m loan fee + ?m option
- Chong (could be loan/loan with sell-on) peanuts
- Lingard 25m
- De Gea (could also be a loan/loan with sell-on) 25m
LOANED:
- Mengi
- Elanga
- Pellistri
- Tuanzebe
- Williams
- Laird
- Shoretire
- Mejbri
- Fish
Spent: 153 m
Sold: 52 m
NET: 101 m

Garner is a curious case. Pogba and Mata will renew.

Summer 22

IN:
- Striker
- DM
SOLD:
- James 20m
- Bailly/Tuanzebe 15/20m
- Scot/Fred 15/20m
- Martial 35m

That's the most obvious transfer activity we could have in my opinion.
Agree that a striker to replace Edi is definitely going to be the priority next summer, however even with a quick CB behind them I still have huge concerns about another season with McFred as the main midfield pivot

Get Sancho and Varane done and then sell Lingard + Martial + lesser squad players and fund a CDM to stop the McFred nightmare.

McFred needs an upgrade or at least a half decent DM who can allow a different combination to play once in a while.

McFred don't allow for any creativity through the middle at all.

Cant say its definately value in the market....but we are getting linked with a few players I hadnt heard of until recently. The likes of Dieng, De la Cruz, Sulemeena....obviously youtube doesnt paint the true story often. But all these players seem to be valued under £20m, may be duds, maybe the kind of signings we should be after. Have to say was very impressed with the video of De la Cruz.

Also other players in Europe I have seen that are good players like Romagnoli and Zakaria who would both be around £30m or under.

We could effectively spend £55m on a centre back in Romagnoli, De La Cruz in midfield and Sulemeena on the left and add that to a Sancho deal, that is four players within rumoured £140m budgets without even selling a single player.

When you add what is a pretty long list of potential deadwood sales and pretty big sales we could do with some of our players. Really there is potential for us to do a couple of big deals this summer and still also fill all our othe rtroublesome positions as well.

I mean Bailly/JOnes/Dalot buys you Romero
Lingard/VDB/Matic buys you Camavinga
Pogba/Martial/James buys you Grealish

obviously getting these players and selling ours isnt simple like football manager. But I really do think with a bit of balls in the transfer market, there really are no excuses to not have 4-6 additions this summer and a coupel of them big signings and at least one proper quality up n coming player like weused to sign.

Well, I'm not excited either. I'd rather add the DM signing to this window, but I doubt we can cope with that spending.
Besides before adding any players to the midfield we must know what's happening with Pogba. If he's staying or not.
Would be silly to bring a dirty worker to partner Pogba and a summer later Paul leaves and we're left with no creativity in the double pivot at all.

Yeah the Pogba situation is clearly going to be the deciding factor with this position, like you say if he leaves we need more of a CM creator who can also provide the tempo in that area but IF he stayed then obviously we would require a proper DM

Ideally I'd like him to stay. His vision and touch are world class. With quality behind him at CB and dynamo midfielder he'll produce France NT performances.

But it will be really hard to find that quality dynamo. On top of my head Kante and Modric are the type players that would fit next to him. While Kante doesn't posses the technical ability Modric has he balances with stamina and effort and same could be said for Modric - he doesn't have the stamina anymore, but he has the skill.
Watching France recently I just noticed that when in possession and when moving the ball there's always one player following the ball and giving that extra option. In midfield that's Kante while in attack that's Griezman. Pogba is not the one dictating. He's an outlet. When out of options they would pass him the ball and he would pull some visionary pass or wait until players get close to him and hold them off while a pass is available or try to evade pressure with skill and carry the ball forward. But he's not the one to demand the ball and demand tempo.
Fred is also that type of player but his quality is just not up there for my liking.

Are you kidding?) This would be fecking awesome.
You have a point but I would still prefer Varane, Aarons, Bissouma, Grealish and one from Ings/King/Brobbey/Koita as I outlined.

I’m in favour of signing Ben White as well and loaning him back for a season or two, by the way. Class player.

We signed Matic who was very good in the role for the first 18months.....did we get France Pogba then? Obviously a player is going to be better with better players around them but I think its an excuse saying Pogba hasnt performed consistently to the levels we expect because of other players. Forget what he does for France, its international football for a start which is a different game there are many playes who have been much better for there country than club, Perisic is another one for me and there are also countless examples of the opposite. His vision and touch for us is sporadically world class and also sporadically sloppy in the wrong areas. You are even saying you can only think of TWO players that get the best out of Pogba, surely that says enough in itself

Out
Dalot or WIlliams
Jones
Mata
Lingard
Pereira
Chong

£40m-ish

In
Romero
Camavinga
Sancho

£180m-ish

£140m net spend which is our rumoured budget

That is our deadwood out and three young players already broken through and all with potential for further growth and 10-15years of a career ahead of them.

Personally I keep DeGea and Henderson as Henderson needs another year to prove he is ready and DeGea has another year to show he is good enough still as think he looked to be improving again last season from mistakes of hte alst coupel of years.

Matic I keep for his experience and Garner is possibly rthe natural successor who maybe needs another loan after preseason having a chance to show what he can do

I think I would keep Martial for one more season while we work on converting Greenwood to a striker as otherwise a long injury or succession of injuries to Cavani is a concern.

Personally I would like another two signings. A second central midfielder from someone like Kamara/Gravenburch/Locatelli/Zakaria/Caqueret and an attacking midfieler that can provide competition and take some of the workload away from Rashford and Fernandes allowing them to rest. Obviously the dream would be Grealish but realistically some of these players like Sulemana/De La Cruz seem more realsitic. Any of these purchases of course are dependant on whether we keep or sell Pogba or/and VDB or/and James which is another £100m....personally I would sell all of them, but its a lot to do in one window especially outwardly and we do have the likes of Elanga/Hannibal/Shoetire who already cover some of these positions regardless of us selling or not

So many players we should sell, but I never seem to stumble upon rumours about clubs interested in our players. Seen those random tweets about Lazio wanting to loan Pereira and Milan wanting to loan Dalot. Lingard to West Ham seemed to go awfully silent...

Am I just imagining things or is it the same every damn summer? Our competitors seems to be able to get rid a lot easier than we do. Is it all down to our crazy salaries?

I think it’s just the quality of our dead wood and some of them believing that they are good enough to be at a top club. I am sure someone would take Dalot or Andras but they want to be at Lazio or Milan.

Sancho, release Mata
CDM, sell Fred
CB, pay Jones off to go
Sell Martial and Lingard

-Bring Dalot back for attacking games
-Play Tuanzebe atleast 20 games this season
-Keep Pogba for this season and see if he renews
-As much as I dislike Luke Shaw he finally has shown some improvement in his conditioning this year.

Start season with

Rashford Cavani Sancho
Fernandes
Camavinga Pogba
Shaw Maguire Varane AWB
Henderson

We can challenge for the league with that team.

Thats it in a nutshell. We pay the most wages for mediocre players.

When does Saka's deal run out? 2024? Feel Arsenal is a prime target to be asset-stripped tbh. Tap him up and get him next year (22/23 season).

Sven Botman looks good. Can we buy him and Varane? Sell Bailly, Jones, Lindelof. Keep Maguire, Tuanzebe, Varane, Botman, Scott as emergency cover.

Varane at €50m and Botman at €30m = €80m on CB's. Get €30m on CB sales. Easy spend of €50m to have a top-tier defense.

Camavinga €50m - sell Dalot (€15m), Pereira (€10m), Chong (€10m), Williams (€15m)

Sancho €90m

€140m net spend.

Not one Season since we last won the league have i believed we would win the league again. Either due to not signing the right players or not filling the correct positions. For me to believe we will win it for the first time since 2012/13, there's still some way to close the gap on a very dominant Man City, so we will need to do 4 things..

Sign Sancho

Sign Varane or Torres

Sign a genuine long-term Matic replacement

Keep (a committed) Paul Pogba

That will win us the league IMO. Even if City get both Grealish and Kane. Throw in genuine competition for AWB and i'll be very sure. But like every other summer, I have my doubts that we will. I can see Sancho and a CB signing. And Pogba staying (albeit not with a new contract or any commitment to the cause) - but i don't think we'll stretch the purse strings to that Matic replacement and that will be what will cost us, that bit of creativity from midfield.

Well, Matic is a sitter. He's a Carrick type. He'd sniff out danger and would slot in between the centre backs. He's not a dynamo. Fred is. But he neither possesses the stamina and energy Kante has, nor outweighs that with technical ability like Modric does.
And I'm sure I can think of more players who would fit that description and would slot seamlessly next to Pogba, those two were on the top of my head. Tielemans and McGinn are other two examples.
Pogba has been branded inconsistent because it's been expected of him to be a complete midfielder, while he's not. That's 70% of his inconsistency criticism and the rest is because he really had poor anonymous games.
To me it's like playing Cavani as 9 and Lingard as 10 and complain that Cavani is crap because he's not scoring goals. Well if something's missing you can't get the full potential of the player. Cavani likes good deliveries, Lingard likes open spaces. So what do you do in that case? Ditch Cavani and stick with Lingard or get someone else instead of Jesse?

It's same with Pogba. Him and Matic, whilst good double pivot on paper doesn't work very well because the energy and tempo is missing. Pogba and Fred works well, Fred brings energy but that partnership lacks defensive stability compared to Pogba and Matic. Thus Fred and McT is the preferred double pivot, because there's energy and good defensive work off the ball, albeit sacrificing flair and creativity from the middle. Ole's relying on creativity from the front 4 and on occasions that hasn't been enough.

All this talk of having the right players around Pogba to get the best out of him misses the point.

Pogba has been superb for us in periods where he's focused and mentally switched on. When he's motivated he's as good as any midfielder on the planet and at a major tournament, representing his country, it isn't particularly difficult or impressive management to keep him motivated.

The challenge with Pogba, is keeping him motivated and mentally switched on consistently throughout the course of a 50 game season, because it is those periods where he's not dialled in, more than the players around him, which impacts his game the most.

Yeah totally agree with that. But still there are doubts in which position does he play when in form and is he always the preferred option in big games in that same position. I still believe him and Fred are the best double pivot we could line up, although I wouldn't get upset if we get an upgrade on Fred. Someone better technically.

So, assuming we get Sancho…

A better partner for Maguire
A central midfielder that perfectly complements the remaining Pogba

That would be a good transfer window.

Yeah looks like the plans are in order of priority

Sancho

CB
(Still hoping for Varane but looks an ask)

Sell some players to raise funds for either backup RB or midfielder (still can't tell what type Ole wants because have been linked with DM's like Rice but then also CM's like Saul/Camavinga)

We definitely need to move on from the McFred combo. We are heading into the 3rd year of Mourinho's elaborate midfield. It's time for a change, we can't go on for another year with the same midfield lot.

If the club is planning on selling Pogba, or he won't extend, then we should move for Locatelli or Brozovic or someone of that ilk.

Camavinga is nice but very raw and very young.
The CF role can hold on for one more season, but McFred needs to end. I like them, but seriously, we need more.

Well judging from the press, it does really seem like we are after two of those three and Varane as the centre back. For me that is a fantastic window. I have never been one of those thinking a new right back is needed. Laird and WIlliams are fine as back up options for a season, or possibly even Dalot if he stays.

Hear the odd rumour we may be after two centre backs and lookign to sell Bailly/Tuanzabe, I wouldnt be against that....but being greedy, if there is to be a fourth signing, for me it would be an additional central midfielder. That is only reall yhappening if we sell Pogba and/or VDB. I really think VDB is staying though and I think what happens with Pogba is down to what Pogba wants as I think we offer him a new contract. Personally I would sell both. I think it would allow us to sign another central midfielder around the £50m mark and still have a net spend of around£120m which is pretty good value for what we bring in and sell. And the vast majority of midfield options would be under £50m this summer, only really Rice, Goreztaka, Bellingham or Barella I think would cost more and for me three of them are unobtainable and the other im Rice I do rate highly but too expensive, especially with so many other options....Zakaria, Gravenburch, Locatelli, Tchouameni, Kamara, Neves, Palinha, Bissouma, Kessie, Neves, Caqueret, Neauhaus, Saul.....there are just so many quality possibilities that may fit what we need in the pivot well that sacrificing that huge Pogba contract and just getti gnour money back on VDB is well worth considering I feel

Sancho is pretty much concluded and noise around a possible Varane deal is fairly positive. The Trippier deal seems to have gone cold as we were expecting a Telles deal. Hopefully we still sell Lingard and Matic along with Dalot and Pereira, then we need to sell a keeper and I think a deal for Pogba with PSG would be beneficial for all parties.

That leaves the gaping hole in our midfield, we'll probably still have to waste another season playing one of McFred regularly but I'd love to see the money from Pogba and Henderson/De Gea go on two midfielders. If the plan is still to get a RB option then count me on the Dumfries bandwagon. :D

Update observation. United definitely need a new top CB. A complete beast. Both with top acceleration and hard to beat one on one. And of course solid in the air too.

And i get the feeling United need a top RW more that a CF. In this case Sancho vs Haaland. If only pick one. I would pick Sancho. But the ideal and greedy mind. I would love to have both. Why Sancho over Haaland. Because i see Greenwood as CF in the mould of Van Persie and because of the extend one year of Cavani.
Compare Diallo. Really promising, but I don’t think he is ready to play regular as RW next season. And with Sancho as RW. Then you can move Greenwood as a CF option. Specialized Greenwood as a CF.

And last United need a top nr.8. United need a world class Paul Scholes. United haven’t win the league after Scholes and Sir Alex retirement.
There are Pogba or Bruno. Internally can solve the problems and need. Until the then. If United find a new Scholes or Bruno can reach Scholes level as nr.8. Then I think United will be good enough to win premier league. There was a clear and obvious reason why Sir Alex talked and convinced Paul Scholes to made a comeback and out of retirement. Then but of Sir Alex and Scholes retired at the top.

Sum up.
A top RW
A top CB
A top nr.8
Goalkeeper? Henderson and De Gea. Henderson doesn’t give me good confidence, that he is top goalkeeper. De Gea on his late career. I would try to swap Henderson for Villas Martinez.

Two clearly must have positions. RW + CB

If Paul Pogba or Bruno can reach Paul Scholes top consistent level. I think Bruno can. But Scholes was a genius on the pitch and top level. Even Iniesta said Scholes was one of the best CM. From another top LCM in Iniesta. You know how really good and important Scholes was for United. Scholes Vision, skills creative and football head is needed.

And goalkeeper. Maybe not must. But at this moment. Martinez from Aston Villa is clearly a better goalkeeper than De Gea and Henderson. And United as a top club. Always try to get the best players in each positions. To strength and make United better as a team. Always improvement.

There are only two matches left of the season. I think and believe what United need most.

But in the end. I got mine eyes first time in my life this season. I am afraid I will category Leeds Raphinha to must buy player. Every time I have watched. Raphinha really impress me.

In the ideal world it would be like this

Raphinha - Bruno - McTom - Sancho + Greenwood - Rashford

A potential future top 6 combination for United.

Adding Raphinha and Sancho on the wide side. It will be really hard to stop those 6 combination.

Raphinha had a good playing understanding with Bruno back in Lisboa. Adding with Sancho. Both of the will make life easier for United two CF upfront. Consistent top level service.
Euro 2020 soon over. I haven’t change my mind yet. Still want the same. It’s one CB that caught mine eyes most. The one I was most impressed of. That was the Hungary left CB. Attila Szalai. I will definitely follow Fenerbache and Hungary in the coming day.

RW/Wide player = Jadon Sancho. Around 80 £ mill. Done deal

CB = Tiago Djalo, Lille . MV = 5 mill euro. A young boy from Portugal. So he will have a mentor in Bruno and it will easier to settle in Manchester.

CM = Aurélien Djani Tchouaméni . All round CM. Monaco was ending 9 th season before this boy get his first full season. Monaco raised and ended 3 place and champion league football next season. All round = he has everything. Not a specialist offensive and creative nr.8. Neither a DM like Keane. Somewhere between.
MV = 30 mill euro

And if Pogba leaving. Pogba creative shall be replace by The creative skills from Manuel Locatelli.

And personally i would swap DVBeek for Leeds Raphinha. I am sure Ole will most of the time use 4231 formation next season too. So i hard to find a place for DVB in the starting line up. But I think and believe DVB is good enough for a starting line for Leeds. He will waste his talent, football understanding/vision and football career if he sit too much on the bench.
Then Raphinha as RW. Sancho as LW and move and develop Greenwood as a specialist CF. A sniper of a CF. With top killer instinct and determination. Still Bruno as nr. 10

Bissaka - Djalo - Maguire - Shaw + Raphinha - Tchouaméni - Pogba/Locatelli - Sancho + Bruno + Greenwood/Rashford/Cavani.

Sum up. Still a a really good CB. Age doesn’t matter. As long as you are good enough. CM. And maybe the goalkeeper after De Gea. Because still I’m not 100 % convinced with Henderson. Then Pogba and DVB situations. Alternative solutions is Locatelli and Raphinha. Consintent and no mood player. And with top ball skills. So aiming for dominating and create a lot chances and goals. Have enough players that are good in small areas to open up tight defend. Locatelli and Raphinha will help a lot. Beside Sancho and Bruno. That is the main goal. Score more goals than the opponents teams and own and dominate the ball most of the time.

In an ideal world we sign two central midfielders as I never had faith in VDB as a signing, I am also in the sell Pogba category which only leaves us with McFred and Matic who I would probably keep to give Garner another season on loan. Rice and Camavinga would be the two for me but thats a good £130-150m which is really only feasible if we were to sell a fair few players this summer, which as has been mentioned with our wages would be difficult to do. But one of our keepers, Pogba, VDB, Lingard, James wpuld pretty much cover it

We can challenge for the league with that team.
No doubt this team will do lot better than last year team...If we sell Pogba then replace him with one of Saul / Llorente / Locatelli or even start playing DVG next to Carmavinga

Any one looked at Touchameni in Monaco team, seems like he is the next Kante.

You know we take a few weeks per transaction and work in series, right? That lot would take us 10 windows!

that’s at least a dozen of the first team squad you think could/ should be sold in one window!!

I'm now leaning toward selling Pogba this year. If PSG want him, then they should have him.
Bring in Grealish as his replacement.

Would be very happy with a summer of

Sancho

Varane

CDM/CM ideally Camavinga

Yes I know ideally we could do with a backup RB to give AWB some competition but shouldn't pay daft money for Trippier, saw some loose links to Tavernier at Rangers but guessing the price would still not be in our ballpark.
