So not even Millie who has played the most games in team history can get properly respected. I would like to think its an honest mistake, but would it have happened to the mens team? Surely not. Maybe Adidas can contribute some funds to build a proper squad instead of offering free promotional shirts as the multi billionaire company they are?

Adidas responded 5 hours later.

Lay off them. They're clearly gutted.
I dont care if they are gutted or not, its not acceptable. How about basicly checking if the material is correct before putting it out there? Probably the persons in charge have no clue about the ladies players and bottled it. Thats not how we should treat our womens team. Could you imagine this happening and the ads saying Steven Rashford for example? Would never happen!

The womens team is on shaky grounds as it stands without any more crap added to the pile.

There’s something incredibly manipulative and scummy about giving merch away to her fans as an apology.

It’s:
1. Hard for her not to accept the apology because it makes her look like she doesn’t care about her fans and wants something for herself.
2. It’s shameless advertising.

She should turn it around on them and present them with a list of her 20,000 biggest fans and their names and addresses.

Yeah but they're gutted, and probably in tears about all of this. That's not nice.

Could be a lot of things, could be an honest mistake. I work in garment industry, small details often get missed, and yes, sometimes' it's an elephant we missed. You wouldn't believe the kind of things people missed.

Giving them the benefit of doubt, I doubt they're stupid enough to pull this stunt, it's not like they can't afford proper marketing. If it's indeed a marketing trick, we would hear about it, because this would meant that they'll raise hundreds of QC alarm and have to notify the whole chain that the error was intended.

It's not great at all but what do people now expect Adidas to do? Should people be sacked over it? It's okay being outraged but at least suggest something reasonable that can be done in return.

Looks like an honest mistake to me. She’s spotted it, Adidas apologised, move on. Shouldn’t even be news.

Did United apologise when they sent Anderson out onto the pitch wearing an ‘Andesron’ shirt?

A 20 odd year old graphic designer makes a mistake with someone’s name, cue the pitchforks

Yes it's a mistake and not something malicious but the fact is that it never should have made it out there. I can't accept whoever made the graphic making the mistake, but no one above them on either the Adidas or United side spotted it? Did ANYONE even look over it for details like that? It just comes across poorly and at a time when thr women's team is already feeling undervalued (understandable) so it's not a good look.

I think it's the mistake of the designer who's probably looked down the list of players and saw our other player Amy Turner and thought yeah that's her.

Not great but just an error.

A quick email/phonecall could have sorted all this out in twenty minutes. You’d wonder what’s at play here with them going so public with it immediately. Must every perceived negative incident involving a famous business/company be posted online nowadays in the hope of the mob producing their pitchforks?

It’s an honest mistake. Get over it.

Jesus that's extremely cynical. I don't doubt it was an honest mistake, but that doesn't take anything away from the fact this wouldn't have happened with the mens team, and demonstrates the lower standing the female athletes/teams still have in comparison. Even with their employers.

Yeah I know what you mean but what else can they really do for her?

Didn't this happen with Bruno for a quick second where his name was spelt with a Z? Thought I read that somewhere
Edit: Nah ... Apparently that was a fan

Deffo happened with Beckham and I think it happened with Anderson too I believe. Poor QA, nothing more

Jesus christ, why are you so aggressive about something to exceptionally trivial? Some social media-person made a mistake and now the entire company hates women football? This forum has 289 ways of spelling «Chkristian Ericksson»… and in the modern world an Insta, tweet or whatever is posted in a second. Does any newspaper article get posted without being updated for grammar 4-5 times? You’re obviously shooting for discrimination of women’s football, but dry your eyes and find better material to attack to suit your moral high ground.. this is nothing, it’s some chap doing his job poorly.

Nope. Because anyone who is interested in football would know Rashford’s first name but most football fans would struggle to name a single player on our woman’s team. It would be nice if they were all household names like the men’s team but that’s a long way off.

Having said that, the fact most people haven’t heard of them means adidas should be more careful when it comes to checking this sort of thing. Because mistakes are more likely to happen.

I worked in the creative team for a sports brand and you'd be amazed how little some designers know about football.

We once advertised a Champions League triple header with Real Madrid, Barcelona and... Middlesbrough

I'd constantly get asked... "Who's a famous player for X?" I'd amble over and see they'd used some reserve player as the main image. Or someone who left the club 2 years before.

I could go on and on. They'll have tonnes of assets to make, will go down a list and make errors. It's unfortunate, but it's not a gender thing.

A typo is different to getting her actual name wrong mate.

I’m sure it’s an honest mistake, but it’s not really the same as leaving the “h” out of Beckham is it?

It must feel pretty shit to be in her position as someone who is sponsored by Adidas and they can’t get your first name right. You’d have thought it went through numerous quality checks so someone would have picked it up.

It sucks and is annoying.

But my favourite reply is from her (probable) girlfriend Rachel Daly -
