I hope we don't sign any player for this reason. We have enough average squad players as it is. It should be what we need to take us where we want to be.
That’s fair

To be honest, if Barca don't swap that imbecile for Saul, Atletico might even let him go on a loan if we insert a purchase option for next season.

He'll probably go for something like 35 to 40m this summer I reckon. Could be a real bargain for someone.

Can only see us being interested if we now know Pogba isn't renewing his deal.

Hmmmm supposedly jumped back in the race and leapfrogged Liverpool. I would imagine if that’s true we’ve given up on Camavinga.

I had a stoner friend who would go through his carpet with a brush to find old weed crumbs when he had nothing to smoke.

In all seriousness, do we think there's anything in this? Seems like a classic box to box player, does anyone know if he's capable playing as a 6?

This is total nonsense - we’ve just been banded around and whored about as usual - nothing in this

I would have preferred Brozovic as a backup target for Camavinga but oh well. If Saul can rediscover his form from 2019 he'd be a good addition.

atletico are looking to get him of their books however. He’s lost his starting spot too I heard for some reason. Lost a bit of a step? Whatever the case is, combined with their financial situation, they’ll be lucky to get £50m.

Is Saul in Matic mode or Pogba type player?

45M is a steal
He's a box-to-box player. Likes to tackle, OK in the air and can be a goal threat. His passing is quite poor and he's definitely not got the defensive discipline to play a lone holding role, but he could play in the double pivot behind Bruno, or as a #8 in a 4-3-3.

If we're going to spend £50m+ on a midfielder, much better to spend that on Saul than nearly double that on Rice.

Saul and Camavinga would be amazing if we managed to sell Pogba in the same window. Obviously a pipe dream though.

Same agent as Camavinga who has supposedly advised that he doesn't want to come to England.

AND

We are currently in discussions with Atletico for Trippier, with Atletico clearly intent on offloading Saul.

Therefore I'd imagine it's very likely that the prospect of us signing Saul (a player we've long been interested in) has definitely came up. Whether we sign him or not is another matter altogether but I suspect there's a strong chance that we just might.

He always seemed like a bit of an all rounder to me rather than someone who is top class at certain things.

I'm happy that we're getting linked with more midfielders, doesn't mean it's true of course but if it is it means Ole isn't perfectly happy with McFred

I like both Fred and McT but let's be honest pairing them both together is not a title winning team

Saul would be a great addition if we can pick him up on the cheap and he can rediscover his form (which I think he can). Classy player.

Every time a midfielder is mentioned, someone brings up Pogba, the same Pogba who has been here for years and done shite all. You can count about 25-30 games where he really has been good, otherwise, he has been a nonfactor. Not sure why people are willing to tolerate this anymore. With his talent, he should be putting the team on his shoulder and improve the team, instead, it is the team carrying him. I want him gone this summer and replaced with someone who is willing to put a shift in even if they are not as talented as Pogba. If that player is Saul, bring it on.

Give us Kalvin Phillips and Saul Niguez, sell Pogba, and watch this team take off with control in midfield. God, that would be immense. Especially with McTominay, Fred and VdB to rotate in. Phillips playmaking at 6, Saul at 8, Fernandez at 10. Very well balanced.

Energy up and down. We have that with Fred and Mctominay. Now how about some genuine technical quality in midfield?

Don't think 3 players with pass completion around 80% will give you any control in midfield.

Not for me. We need a Carrick type player in there to control the game. Philips is nowhere near that on the ball.

Where was even a slight amount of that control for Phillips against Italy? He got swallowed hole on the ball. Saul isnt that type either. Pogba much better at it

I’m not sure Saul would be what we need, but he is still someone I would love to see us get.

He is proven at the highest level for several years, but at 26 he is still at a very good age. We would probably get six great years from him. To get a player of his quality and experience, at such a young age (probably pre his peak) is a rare chance.

He is a type of player I really like. Tactically adept, great physique, tough and hard-working, but very good on the ball. An experienced leader type too. He is a player who could be more appreciated outside of AM and La Liga. When he was young he reminded me a bit off a young Roy Keane.

Not sure if he would be well-suited playing as a 6, and that is obviously what our squad need. And that is probably why we will not and should not get him.

That being said, he has qualities that would work quite well as a single pivot. The fact that he has played both as a CB and box-to-box midfielder is an indication that he is quite flexible and very adept tactically.

It would also be a bonus to «steal» him from Liverpool. But I think he will end up replacing Winjaldum at Liverpool. Could see him being a big improvement for them.

They can get James as they are keen on him but dont you think we need someone better than kalvin in that role (in Kante mould)
