I remember his pre match interview before Liverpool game when he said they come at Old Trafford as favorites. Sure enough by then we were in horrible place and they spanked us 3:0 without braking a sweat but you never say that. Never.
He did loads of terrible interviews at the time didn't he, I seem to remember him saying we aspire to be like Manchester City!!!

Aspire to be a football club that will need twenty years plus to catch our trophy haul and that would be without us winning anything during that time.

Not more than of Djemba-Djemba being a success at United. In Moyes-United wavefunction, the probability of Moyes being a success was 0. Unfortunately, the evolution of Schrondinger's equation didn't have the possibility of Moyes becoming a success here.

He could have done everything right, the problem is that he just was not good enough/talented enough to be a success. If he was a bit more humble and keep the staff etc, he might have had an Ole-like ceiling, which might have kept him at United for a few years, but not getting close to winning the league or UCL.
I don't think we're saying much different here mate. I said he could have had some success, success for him would have been qualifying for the CL for the first time in his career, maybe winning a cup, and keeping his job for a few years.

All things that he should have been able to achieve with the players and resources at his disposal at United but he just wasn't intelligent enough or as you say humble enough to ride the wave, take things slowly and grow into the United job. It seems like from day one he made changes (most unnecessary) to stamp his authority on the club. And in doing so actually eroded what respect and authority he had with the players.

I felt bad for him at that stage. He'd gone so grey compared to how he looked when he took over. The worry lines seemed to be everywhere. I think he clocked around February-March when Mata hadn't revived us that he wasn't going to survive here. He looked like he'd ran out of hope and ideas by the final few weeks

Together in central midfield?

Hargreaves played 34 games in his only proper season with United and quite a few of those games were at right back or on the right side of midfield. The best performances of his United career were at right back.

You also had Carrick and Scholes in that side. If Hargreaves and Anderson played more than 5 games as a midfield 2 in that season I'd be shocked.
I don't know for sure and I'm not inclined to though the stats to check but yeah I do remember them playing in midfield together a decent amount of times. We rotated a lot that year especially in the first half of the season.

In terms of games they started together in midfield if I had to guess I'd say maybe 8-10 games.

I actually found his whole demeanour a bad fit if I'm honest, I'd actually cringe at the TV when he did pre and post game interviews as even that felt like he wasn't a Manchester United manager and he just came across like a rabbit in the headlights.

Even the photos on his first day at Carrington, he should have said no to the photos sat at his desk etc...

It looked like the type of photo you'd find in a company website not a man taking over one of the most powerful sport clubs on the planet.
Completely agree. His grey suit and United mousepad. It was like someone was taking the piss.

I forget who said it but the line that summed him up for me was:
"David Moyes - misery in a suit".

He certainly brought the misery.
Hugh Laurie. Sorrow in a suit perfectly encapsulates Moyes time at United.

And then plane flew over Old Trafford, the indignity of a plane flying over whilst you were managing the side.

You are right though, I half think it was a huge relief when the final nail went into the coffin. He must have thought give me that pay out and let me clear my desk.

Anderson dribbling and ball control was amazing in his golden days. And he had quite the pace when on form. One could say he was not hungry enough, but that would be a lie :D

Always love Anderson, yes for the penalty in Mosocw but more for the freedom he played with in the early days. He'd pick up the ball deep and push forward 20ms with it. Not many players do that now.

Wasn't the story that he offered it to Pep but he didn't understand the Scottish accent and by the time he'd understood he'd agreed a deal with Munich ?
No, not really when that meeting took place in NY SAF didn't know he was retiring. He simply asked Pep to keep him informed of his next decision, Pep had already basically agreed to take over Bayern though.

It amazes me when I see people say they love and adore Anderson. The guy was completely unprofessional and clearly didn't put in any of the required effort to actually make it here. He squandered all his talent and never really delivered anything for us beyond that CL final penalty yet.. he's adored? I can only imagine the abuse some of our current players would get if stories like that came out about them.

Feck him, waste of space, and he took up a lot of space.

My heart did sink when i heard we were going with an all new backroom staff..
The old guy (forgot his name) didn't even get the honour of having his initials on his training kit.

Look at him, he looks like he should be propping a bar up in Tenerife not working for Manchester United. haha!!

1. Is there anyone out there actually using mousepads that small?
2. Not even Moyes seemed to do that... or was he not able to identify that it was one?

Moyes was out of his depth in pre season too. He kept going on about not realising the club was as big as it was. The job was too big for him

One of my favourite Moysey moments was when he led the team on a walking tour of Manchester town centre the morning of a match.

The players looked furious.

I actually don' think he's a nice guy at all, he can be very rude when being interviewed and he comes across pretty moody.

Not only was the club too big for him, the players had egos which he couldn't manage.

The likes of Rio, Vidic, Rooney were all used to a certain training method, tactics but Moyes came out with small club vibes and really struggled.

I think the job at United was too big and he came across as weak in how he presented himself.

Define nice. He's a massive whinger.

Any chance he gets, he still goes on about how it's not his fault we finished 7th that season, or that the players were unprofessional and didn't listen, yada yada.

Rio elaborated on how he was being managed injury wise under Fergie. He would know when playing so had time to prepare mentally/physically. Moyes came in and announced the team before the game, so he would be stressed out whether he would be playing or not prior to kick off

Same with RVP. Being treated sensibily under Fergie, Moyes flogged him in preseason

I remember some nonsense pre-season when he took the players for a training session in a park and a walk along the beach or something like that and they were just hounded by locals, but I don't remember anything about him doing it in Manchester.

I think he changed when he got the united job, like the pressure/job was too big for him. He did not exert his authority at all. I recall seeing a picture of him over in Thailand i think at pre season and he just looked weak.

think that was Australia. Moyes assumed they would be annonymous and was shocked at the interest there

It would have been Australia because Ed's still on his way back from there on urgent transfer business.

It was obvious from the moment he arrived how out of his depth he was.

At the contrary, he has a massive ego and seemed to have been a bit of a prick.

If he hadn’t a massive ego, he wouldn’t have fired the staff, so things totally differently, and say that ‘not even Fergie would have managed to reach UCL with this squad’ less than a year after Fergie won the league with the same squad by 12 points.

Reporter - "David you are X points worse off at this period than last year"

Moyes - " im not X points worse off, i was at Everton"
