I felt bad for him at that stage. He'd gone so grey compared to how he looked when he took over. The worry lines seemed to be everywhere. I think he clocked around February-March when Mata hadn't revived us that he wasn't going to survive here. He looked like he'd ran out of hope and ideas by the final few weeks
I think he the job was too big for him. He had no authority in making the players and even fans respect him. Van Gaal, despite only winning the FA Cup was much better at interviews IMO. Just the way he appeared, did not come across as weak.

I recall Brady and Dunphy saying similar about Moyes. That he was just too much of a nice guy for the job in hand. Following on from Ferguson who the players would have gladly died for.

Yeah I wasn’t sure how that post meant the manager needed the backing of the match day fans

What it means is that a manager like Moyes should never be hired.
Bayern and Barca hired some managers with not much experience at top flight before. And they were pretty successful. I think it's down to the manager itself, how he runs the team.

Moyes was obviously out of depth, just by seeing how he conducted the transfer, interview, and how the team play starting from that Summer.

so many memories coming back.

Reporter - "David you are X points worse off at this period than last year"

Moyes - " im not X points worse off, i was at Everton"
I don't know why he thought that would be a good answer

Tbf those guys had won things, they had clout as players.

wait what?
I remember some nonsense pre-season when he took the players for a training session in a park and a walk along the beach or something like that and they were just hounded by locals, but I don't remember anything about him doing it in Manchester.
think that was Australia. Moyes assumed they would be annonymous and was shocked at the interest there
It would have been Australia because Ed's still on his way back from there on urgent transfer business.

It was obvious from the moment he arrived how out of his depth he was.

The faces of some of the players, their thinking what's this shit all about were preparing for a match and this twats leading us into cameramen and autograph hunters.

Absolutely idiot.

I mean if you think they would have been a world class CM pairing, I think that's actual blasphemy

So many fans look back on that start with rose-tinted glasses regarding the two.

You can make a thread yourself and see if others agree with you that they would have been a top class pairing.

We've had much better midfield pairings before and even after than those Cleverley-Anderson.
I am deadly serious. Take that blasphemy back. Sacrilege.

I will forever say, that at that time, we needed a big reputation and egoistic manager to come in straight after Fergie. And for me that was Mourinho - he always wanted the job, wasn't completely out of touch then as he won the league the following season and 100% the players like Rio and co would have accepted him
I don't think our fans would accept Mourinho back then. Even after bad years with Moyes and Van Gaal, Mourinho still got quite a number of fans hating him since day 1.

A never-nude? I thought he just liked cut-offs.
He was an average Ligue 1 right back from day one and never improved. He didn't really had a lot of injuries, he is just not good.
Cheers. That being the case (and I vaguely remember you and some of the other French guys saying similar previously), I either just overrate his 2012-13 season in retrospect, or else he just failed to kick on or else actually regressed for some reason.

It amazes me when I see people say they love and adore Anderson. The guy was completely unprofessional and clearly didn't put in any of the required effort to actually make it here. He squandered all his talent and never really delivered anything for us beyond that CL final penalty yet.. he's adored? I can only imagine the abuse some of our current players would get if stories like that came out about them.

Feck him, waste of space, and he took up a lot of space.
8-2 Arsenal.
And he looked like a teddy bear.

Ando was one of them players you just wish that he realised his full potential but injuries, food & fitness came between that. We never saw his full potential only some glimpses few and far between. He had a good interview last year or the year before about his time here read it.

He did loads of terrible interviews at the time didn't he, I seem to remember him saying we aspire to be like Manchester City!!!

Aspire to be a football club that will need twenty years plus to catch our trophy haul and that would be without us winning anything during that time.
Paraphrasing, but "With a bit of luck, we can beat Newcastle"

Pathetic wasn't he.

I've never watched United during my lifetime and known what the outcome was going to be more so than when Moyes was manager. How many games were creating nothing and yet looking so easy to counter attack, everyone was coming to Old Trafford and springing the same trick and we kept losing games in the last 15 minutes.

People who say the guy needed more time need to give their head a wobble, if I remember right Newcastle beat us in the December of that season, it might sound kneejerk but at that moment I turned to my dad and uncle and said he's not the man and they need to make a decision soon. Instead they left it too long and we tumbled down the league.

I always found his stay at Utd very odd, for us he looked exceptional, hardworking, amazing technical ability and passing and most abnormal he was also super mature in his decisions in the field for a 19 year old.
He was a fantastic 10.

Then in Utd he was forced to play as a box to box and turns into a badger. I still think you failed to use his potential even if he surely has fault for not taking care of himself.

Right after this impromptu jovial encounter in a hallway. All training ground staff were called to a meeting where they were informed no one is to speak to or look at Mr Moyes.

It's been a point of much debate for almost a decade now. But to this day no one at Manchester United is certain what exactly Jimmy Lumsden's role at Manchester United was or if he was indeed actually even employed by the club. During David Moyes tenure at the club whenever he was asked what position Lumsden held all he would say is ''Wee Jimmy is Wee Jimmy, leave him alone and he'll leave you alone.''

That happened! Unbelievable. What got into him?
He wasn't used to a club the size of Manchester United, he could have done that loads of times with Everton and Preston and it would never make the press but walk Manchester United's squad around the streets of Manchester and it makes the press.

Some of those players must have been thinking how does this prepare the mind for a football match, you can see from a few of their faces it's not being enjoyed.
