Another Chelsea cast off for Arsenal. The only difference here is that Abraham is young and might still have a point to prove.
I think that would be the big problem for Arsenal fans, the optics of the deal as you described.

Ignoring the fact that it's The Sun, as I said earlier, I think the problem for me is that the deal doesn't make sense while Lacazette & Aubameyang are still here. That's just overkill in that area, unless he plays Auba wide left again, & I don't think anyone wants to see that anymore.

Would be interested to know Chelsea fans opinions & Abraham himself mind you?

His attitude and professionalism are both top class, and he's a very good finisher. He's pretty mediocre with the ball at his feet and although he's handy when defending set pieces he's not a standout aerially. What holds him back is that he's a poor passer and progressor of the ball - he doesn't do very much in terms of chance creation and when he drops into midfield it always goes poorly. He's also pretty poor at pressing.

Ultimately he's a very good player in both penalty boxes, but won't contribute much otherwise.

I think that Arsenal have been too willing to take these past their best players like Cech, Willian and Luiz who have done it all with Chelsea but now want to just a earn paycheck and remain in London. Cech wasn't that bad but he was past his best and went back to Chelsea as soon as he retired to become a coach, Luiz is completely error prone and Willian has done barely anything and shown up this season overweight.

Abraham could be different on account of the fact he's young and with something to prove.

Thanks for this. In my opinion, we do need a more rounded forward. Aubameyang doesn't contribute much at all in the build up play. Lacazette is better in this regard but he lacks a bit of pace & athleticism. If you could combine the 2 you'd make a much more complete forward.

I just wasn't sure if Abraham had the skills required, or at least be coached, to be a well rounded forward going forward.

What’s with this rumor that they’re favorites to land Henderson from Liverpool? Surely Henderson will renew at pool.

Edit- saw on the previous page that they’re linked with a loan and buy at 40mil for Tammy Abraham. I just don’t get how Chelsea get so lucky with their deals. They probably would have sold Dan James for 60mil!

Because leadership!

Everton are involved and still intend to go though Delph is having to self isolate and a certain other player cant go as they are on bail.....

Both clubs look to be in a real mess financially so it may be it was arranged more for financial than common sense reasons.

Cech move wasn't about paycheck. Chelsea had identified Courtois as his successor and wanted him to come back from Atletico and start right away (that was his demand anyway). Cech however was settled in London and didn't want to shift his family elsewhere. So Roman as a nice gesture for his long service allowed him to join another London club. Cech's loyalty however always remained at Chelsea.

Willian, Luis, Gallas were however always pay check move.

I don't know how Tammy, a traditional CF, will fit into lego pep's style though. Bad move for Tammy's career, and England.

Although Arsenal haven't been doing well lately and Arteta is an inexperienced manager who makes poor decisions. But to say a team consisting of Partey, Saka, Tierney, Pepe and Auba isn't can't come close to United or Leicester is another level of stupidity. Only thing holding these players back is poor coaching.
Alright sure if it makes you feel better you might have a scrap with Leicester City pal but in the last 5 season the highest you've finished is 5th,

16/17 - 5th
17/18 - 6th
18/19 - 5th
19/20 - 8th
20/21 - 8th

United:

16/17 - 6th
17/18 - 2nd
18/19 - 6th
19/20 - 3rd
20/21 - 2nd

Last two seasons we've had progression in the table where Arsenal have had their back to back worst finishes since 1995, i am not trying to bait Arsenal fans, you're just mid table mediocrity and the stats show it.

Surely they are not spending £30m on Ramsdale. So much for culture change that arteta is just fooling them.

Make or break half season for Arteta.

That said, what is expected of them this season? Any of City, United, Chelsea, Liverpool ,hell, Leicester... who finish behind them end of the season would be understandably disappointed.

We won a trophy recently under Arteta and I'm pretty sure you're yet to win anything with Ole.

How does this fit into your "leadership" theory, baring in mind your squad is much better than ours? Where were your leaders against Villarreal?

I have to admit, the armchair psychology experts on this forum will never cease to make me laugh
So do leaders just exist when you win? Or do you just win a trophy and never kick on from there, being content like Auba was after winning the cup and getting a bumper contract?

The point of it is that Arsenal need senior players who have better character and professionalism to guide the young players through an entire season, year in year out.

United were poor against Villareal, but Villareal didn't do much either. Yet United were grinding and scrap, competing. They lost in one of the longest shootouts in cup history where it's a toss up.

You don't understand what proper leadership does for a group, especially when it's a group full of young players with such a young manager who still hasn't found his identity.

They lack in many departments and no you're not baiting them.

Arsenal have to be honest with themselves and stop with this deluded fact that they are a good side. They are talented and young, but good they are not. Haven't earned the right to be a good side since they have been midtable the past 2 years.

I can't believe the Abraham or Ramsdale links are true. Did we ask around to see if there was something doable ? Sure, why not. Getting into talks after being told it's 30 and 40M ? No way. If these are true we'd have a top 3 contender of our worst transfer window.

120m on those two and White is, well, not great. I'm a fan of White and Abraham but fecking hell.

Add 73m on Pepe. Arsenal used to be good at finding bargains and gems in the market, but not anymore.

Complete team player that was an Arsenal fan as a kid and still supports Arsenal, as long as they are not playing Chelsea.

White is a bit pricey but you can understand the logic of it. Ramsdale at 30M means he's our new #1 whether we sell Leno or not. You don't blow 30M on a back-up just because he's homegrown. Give it to Okonkwo for all i care, at least we'll have a laugh. You have Onana available for 10m, Ryan who ends up at Real Sociedad and i'm sure loads of other adequate young keepers in the Championship for that role. Not a fan of Abraham from what i've seen and especially not at that price.

The most important positions we needed to sign since last January are CM/AM/Backup LB and RB in that order . It's July 21st and we've (almost) signed a 50M CB, a curious LB, being linked to other positions and an Italian guy that would rather shoot himself in the foot than play in England. :houllier:

Arteta saw Ole's fist summer signings and he thought the key to make progress in the league is by buying British Core.

It's rumour though but Maddison want to join arsenal. Very good player though if arsenal pulled that off it will be a spectacular window for them.

But why he want to leave Leicester for arsenal at current stage comparing both clubs.

Money + London probably. Apparently on 110kpw at Leicester and could easily get 150/160 at Arsenal while being the main offensive man.
But the way Leicester deals with outgoings, we'd have to overpay once more. Unless they can really use AMN or Nelson.

You'd think Leicester could stretch to 150kpw. Especially if they're really pushing to cement themselves among the bigger clubs.

Theres rumours that we've offered to double his money, & that he has a price that Leicester would be content to sell at, because he has recurring hip injuries that seems to curtail his form a bit.

No doubt but he signed this one just last summer so they might not want to give the impression he can renew every year for more money.

Yeah I must say that the links make little sense to me - Arsenal have struggled recently in terms of chance creation and I don't think that bringing in a penalty box poacher like Tammy would boost the attack much.

In all seriousness though, I do rate White. He's a good signing. Brighton were never going to let him go for 20m were they? Ramsdale is proper crap though.

I would have thought Arsenal would be in for a striker. Lacazette and Aubameyang are/were good players but Aubameyang seems to have stopped trying and Lacazette won’t score 15-20 goals
Lacazette only having 12 months left on his deal, no new contract (think Arsenal learnt their lesson with Auba) but not being linked with any move away is a bit odd.

Aubameyang will have to stay another 12 months and then Arsenal can unload for small fee next summer (he feels such a Barcelona signing the way they're run currently).

Nkeiteh nowhere near good enough for potential top 6 finish.

Martinelli certainly should be but missing pre season and picks up injuries. Dosen't seem to have full faith from Arteta either.

Can certainly see logic in getting in a Tammy Abraham but problem there is he's a younger Auba, needs crosses and constant supply of chances to score and won't stretch play too much.

Tammy is a great signing for them. Alexander Lackathreat is finished and Auba seems to have lost his way. I think the Ramsdale signing is throwing a lot of people off. White and Abraham are annoyingly 2 very good signings that fix a lot of their problems from last season.

I have watched Ramsdale plenty of games in Bournemouth and in Sheffield. I don’t even consider him talented at all, his potential is probably Chris Kirkland. Well, I’m not a goalkeeper expert so I could be wrong but my view on him is based on everytime I watched Ramsdale, he always show sloppy decision and there were many shots that I thought he should have saved. If arsenal sign him and spend 30m, I would be so happy. I always said Martinez was and is better keeper than Leno. I noticed his performance since Leno got injured and he was very good and comfortable in handling, aerially, on feet, surprised how he was never used before. When arsenal decided to sell him over Leno, I laughed.

White is not a bad signing, it’s not like they have many choices so White is probably the best choice they could get. I hope they don’t sign Abraham even though I don’t rate Abraham. I just don’t want Chelsea being benefit in getting rid their deadwood or players they don’t want for good money. Keep more deadwoods in their squad.

Spectacular, really? An overpriced decent CB, and if Tammy goes through, a decent CF, and Maddison, makes a "spectacular" window? I actually like Maddison, but aren't there certain questions around his discipline? Would living in London really be the best for his type of profile? It seems like it would be a good signing, but not clear cut either. I dunno, I find their window underwhelming so far.

Arsenal not in Europe. So they can't dream about premium players. What they try to do is best for present scenario. They can try to bring in premium players but it won't happen.

They planned well and try to bring in players who will strengthened squad as well as competition for first team places. These players willing to goto arsenal now that's much important for them.

Rather than try to bring in premium players and failed, it's well worked out strategy, try to bring good players who can develop further. Most importantly this players want to play for them is very good plan from their part in my opinion.

Ramsdale must be the strangest player to try & assess just now.

Nearly every other rival fans think he's poor, one of the worst goalkeepers in the league, including us Arsenal fans. But his own fans generally think he turned out good last season after a difficult start.

At 23, he's a child in goalkeeping terms, & he does make fundamental errors, but he's got plenty time to improve.

He's been relegated 3 out of the 4 clubs he's played with, but he's either been Young Player or Player of the Year at 3 of those clubs as well.

He's rated enough to get an England call up but then England really have slim pickings in the goalkeeper department.

I suppose we are thinking that he'd be good enough as a number 2 this season, with the potential to kick in & continue to improve & really challenge for the number 1 spot in a year or 2? I don't know, it's just a strange transfer all round, especially for the numbers being spoken about. We'll likely get shafted, that's for sure.

Controversial opinion here, but I like Abraham. I think he'd be a massive success at Arsenal and pretty much anywhere in the league. The issue is that he's not a glamorous enough name for Chelsea's hierarchy, and for most people outside the club, but he is a very effective goalscorer and has everything a striker needs to succeed.

If Martial is leaving next summer and Haaland/Kane are nonstarters for us, then I would absolutely not mind a punt on Abraham.

Abraham like you said very good goal poacher. But also very frustrating player. He need to develop further for that need regular game time.

Unfortunately at chelsea he won't get it. Hope he will do well where ever he plays next season.
