THE FAN-LED REVIEW - WE NEED YOUR HELP PERSUADING GOVERNMENT OF THE NEED TO REFORM FOOTBALL

If you've not done it already this is your last chance to influence the review's recommendations to the Government by completing the short survey linked below. If you've done it please get at least one other to do it too.

Clearly we want the review to recommend that fans should have the right to buy shares in their clubs and that there is a major need for strong regulation and supporters trusts like MUST should play a central role.

This is the link to the survey:

The government’s Fan-Led Review of Football Governance will be concluding shortly and this is the chance for individual fans to have their say. The more fans we can get to support our demands the better chance we have of the Review making strong recommendations to the Government.

Last week MUST sent in our submission that built on our previous oral hearing. In that submission we made a detailed case for the right of fans to invest in their club by buying shares, and set out a progressive route to supporter ownership. We also supported the need for fans to hold a ‘golden share’ right of veto in issues that affect the future of their club, stronger business and financial controls on owners, the appointment of both supporter and independent directors to the controlling boards of football clubs, and strengthened supporter engagement including a Supporters Advisory Board. We also supported an independent regulator to ensure that these changes are delivered, monitored and enforced.

Before reaching its conclusions the Review is now asking to hear directly from supporters through a short (10 min) survey. Please take the time to complete this and add your voice in support of the changes that we want to see. You can access the survey through this link:

I think this is worthy of its own thread (fan led footy review) to draw as much attention as possible. As many as possible should fill this questionnaire. Well worth 5 mins whether you support MUST or not.

MUST will literally go with whoever gives its leadership the most limelight. Their fervent opposition to the Glazers has always been as much about being ignored than actually wanting a change of ownership.

Just like with the ‘Red Knights’, they’d cheerlead a bid by the ghost of Robert Maxwell if he promised them a seat on some kind of advisory committee.

I hear you. That’s a totally acceptable stance. How do we know we aren’t just paying for/papering over the glazers sloppy mistakes of the last 16 years. What happens if the club is sold? Where does the money from the new shares go. Can we vote in future. There’s loads of questions to be answered before I’d put a few k in as it’s a lot of money to me but yeah it’s something I can see myself doing if it’s a genuine initiative by the glazers to involve the fans at board level.
Yes I think you would have to get it in writing from the Glazers what the fans gain is ie what percentage can we buy as a whole would be the main one as if it's limited to under 50% then there would still be no control from the fans. 49% and the Glazers gain the money and keep control, so what would be the point.

It’s to involve the fans, not give them full control. That’s just not going to happen. Let’s be realistic, which big English team does that?

what the fans should insist on is that the money raised gets redirected back into the development of the club not the glazers pocket

Well if we are being realistic then that's also not going to happen !

They would be selling their personal shares to the fans after all

I really hope this works one day. It guts the hell out of me what too many clueless private owners can do to your passion.

The management of this club has been appalling since Ferguson retired.

Glazers' father was not this dumb. These guys really take the cake, completely out of touch with the sport and Europe itself.

The Glazer brothers manage Manchester United like it was an American star show. They just go out and buy famous names and throw them in hoping their status somehow makes the club successful, just like many NBA owners do, how would you not immediately think of what happens with the Los Angeles Lakers?

At the end of the day, there's always revenue coming in because MUFC is an international brand, the VIPs always fill up their seats, the merchandise always sells. They don't understand that this is not North American professional sports where most fans are content with just going to the arenas or stadiums to have fun watching their idols, repeating what the announcers tells them to say, drinking soda, going nuts when the cameraman points to them and be happy for participating in the party regardless of results, so everything always seems right to them.

That's the rub for me. The glazers will get umpteen millions free and still get the final say. Would need to see the guarantees in writing what they promise to do if you buy the shares so you can hold them accountable in court if they fail to do this.

It’s a new share issue scheme, so no they aren’t.
Well at the moment there aren't actually full details about everything

My understanding is that the Fan Shares will come from the Glazers but I guess it's possible they issue new shares and dilute all existing shareholders
