This deal is happening. This thread went from having one of the greatest titles in history to a title that gives off limp and impotent small wiener vibes. Everyone be more like Luckhurst.

I like this type of journalism. Not covering all angles/outcomes but rather simply stating; whether it will happen or not.
Yeah you can at least respect this line of journalism. 99% of it is usually bland non-committal nonsense along the lines of 'it may happen or maybe it won't happen.'

I think its gonna take time to agree with Real for a deal as there doesn't seem to be any other suitors and we can get him for free next year. So I think we'd wanna get Real down to our 35-40 million euro price rather than compromise. However I think the club's hierarchy has to start attaching a monetary value to the player coming here in time for a good pre season. Its worth something so there should be some urgency from United to finish the deal and there doesn't seem to be. Whats worrying to me.

I’ve said this before. Players need to be in the building now so they can play the pre season with the squad whereas the club seems to work to a “by the end of the window” timetable. Our title challenge can be all but over by the time a new player is integrated into the team at that rate!

If our title-challenge is over after playing Leeds, Southampton, Wolves and Newcastle because Varane is either not playing or at 100% - then I dare say we wont win the league anyway. I would rather get Varane august 10th than not at all.

Raphael Varane | no arm wrestling
Varane doesn't want to disrespect Madrid, which is completely understandable. If he agitates for a move then he may tarnish his legacy with a very fickle set of supporters in Madrid. Once the fee is agreed, he'll probably do something similar to Ramos re: press conference thanking the club and leaving with some class. Can't blame him for wanting that.

More clubs will want him next year as free agent.

More teams should want him now at cut price? Maybe he really wants to join Utd as Sancho did?
Most top clubs have currently good CB's therefore to spend 50m on him makes no sense during the pandemic.

Right now i think only Chelsea should be interested in him.

But the situation could be so different next year especially if we don't qualify for the CL.

I actually have the opposite opinion. Theres a darth of quality in CBs at the moment and quite a few would jump at signing cut price Varane. The quality of CBs at the elite clubs is at the lowest its been for a while.
Also Ramos just went on a free and there wasnt a rush to sign him. Signing players isnt like phoning them up from a catalogue, usually its a closed market.

The majority of European clubs simply don't have the funds to compete with United. I thought that was common knowledge.

You never noticed how often the likes of City, United, PSG or Real get an entirely uncontested run at their transfer targets?

Just because a player has a straight forward transfer doesn't mean others weren't in for him?
Look at how Chelsea were in for Sancho and its still described as a clear run for us or how Liverpool seemingly had a clear run at Werner, Chelsea didnt suddenly become interested in him the day they put a bid in. As soon as Werners first option fell through he had other suitors. Same as Havertz or VDB.

But who says he won't be? Fans said the same about Sancho, just pay the 100m and get it done. Well add the savings up there and what we save on Varane which could mean we strengthen further with a Trippier signing based on negotiation savings alone. Reports are that Madrid wants 70m, don't forget.
If any news comes from this, it should be that its proof that Varane only wants to come to Utd. The same way we walked from Sancho last summer. You dont do that if you have competition.
Exactly!!! Football is a business dealing with figures... we have to activately reduce the fee and use that money to bring in another summer signing.

Love this!!! Full steam ahead!!

I think you misunderstood me. I was actually agreeing with you in a roundabout way.

I'm sure there is a host of clubs interested in Varane (who wouldn't want one of Europe's top CB's?), but they don't have the funds to compete with United on transfer fees or player salaries. So they opt for more acquirable options, preferably those that United, City, PSG or Real are not also chasing.
